Use of CORE / STANDARD JUKIDO JUJITSU CURRICULUM Knife Slash Defense with Kata Gatame (Shoulder Hold / Choke) in the real world.
____________________________________________________________________
On Wednesday, November 1, 2023 security camera footage catches Javier Baez successfully defend himself from a chaotic knife attack at 4am from a large man (Omar Marrero) with a 14-inch blade. The technique that Mr. Baez, a trained martial artist, used in defending himself has been a CORE or Standard self-defense technique practiced in the Jukido system of jujitsu for many years in dealing with this exact type of attack.
In this video we see the security footage at several speeds along with various footage of this technique being applied in the dojo by George Rego Sensei. The footage of Master Rego goes back 8-10 years prior to this incident and the technique itself has been taught by Shihan Arel for decades. There many examples of this technique being used in jujutsu, old judo, and military combatives for many years. The technique is a Kata Gatame (shoulder hold) which can be used as means of strangulation and control for a throw or takedown.
Many claim that knife defense is impossible in the real world. Objectively false. Of course, we would advise to do EVERYTHING possible to avoid needing to defend oneself when facing a knife attack. If you can run, run! However, this contemporary footage demonstrates that (1) it is IS possible (even if not advisable) to successfully defend oneself when left with no other option and that (2) these classic techniques are time-tested and have been passed down for generations precisely because of it's effectiveness in real world situations. There are no guarantees but as Mr. Baez states - one must train to the point of the techniques becoming second-nature in order to maximize, not guarantee, but maximize the chances of success.

Throwing off Punch Attacks • 2 Methods • Direct & Clinch || JUKIDO JUJITSU (jujutsu / jiu jitsu)
#jiujitsu #jujitsu #jujutsu #jukidojujitsu #judo #clinch #柔術 #柔道
Rego Sensei towards the later stages of a black belt class discussing the two broad methods of dealing with punches in real world self-defense. The first and most traditional is the fully committed wild haymaker. In these types of situations a DIRECT entry into a throw is often possible and can prove to be the most efficient modality.
However, this should NEVER be the approach when faced with someone initiating a probing style of attack (jab, cross, not over extending or committing with punches). In these cases one must immediately understand that throwing DIRECTLY off the attack is not an intelligent approach. When faced with this reality one must establish a safe kumi-kata (grip, method of holding, etc.) or clinch position. From this safe clinch position one can then work to employ various techniques, including the throwing techniques found in Jukido Jujitsu.

Juji Gatame Punishing Grip Break || Katame Waza (newaza) || JUKIDO JUJITSU (jujutsu / jiu jitsu)
#jujigatame #jukidojujitsu #jujitsu #jiujitsu #judo #armbar #armlock
In self-defense, the combination of positional control and striking (atemi) is a "go to" method to resolve the problem of a strong and troublesome grip. This is the simple path that we refer to as "kanso." However, for purposes of technical growth and for moments when striking might not be advisable, we explore this advanced technique. Master Rego demonstrates explores this old-school compression lock that attacks the integrity of the forearm bones and muscle tissue in the bicep. This can referred to simply as Ude Hishigi (arm crush) or Sankaku Ude Hishigi (triangle arm crush). An underappreciated yet powerful waza.
This was recorded at the October 2023 Yudanshakai (Black Belt) class at the JUKIDO JUJITSU ACADEMY in Palm Coast Florida.

Tate Shiho Gatame ("Mount") • Maintaining Top Position Part 3 • JUJUTSU (jujitsu / jiu jitsu)
#tateshihogatame #mount #jukidojujitsu #jujitsu #jiujitsu #judo #selfdefense
Maintaining Tate Shiho Gatame (Vertical Four Corner Hold), also commonly referred to as "The Mount," is an essential in ground control. Without proper tactics it is easy for a larger person to simply throw the top person off. As such, it is important to not only achieve the position but also be able to maintain it. In this segment we review basics of maintaining position when facing attempts to reposition legs to within the Do-Osae (Guard) position. In Part 1 and Part 2 of this short video series, we dealt with less technical but quite real reactions of attempting to throw the top person off with side-to-side thrashing or vertical pressure in the benchpress style.
It is important to keep in mind that the application of Tate Shiho Gatame and other Osaekomi-waza (pinning techniques or positional controls in ground grappling) in self-defense are not based on scoring criteria in various combat sports such as Olympic Judo, BJJ, etc. The Jukido style of jujitsu emphasizes these skills in the context of a martial art and not sport.
