When the weather has turned down right spiteful and it's all one can do not to melt upon opening the door to the outside, a perfect cold herbal infusion is the answer to all nature's shenanigans. We make a lovely herbal infusion with lemon balm, lemon verbena, basil flowers, and a couple of stevia leaves... and once it has steeped for 6 to 10 minutes, we strain out the herbs and pour the infusion over ice. We then add water to fill the pitcher and sip on this delightful herbal infused water! Since all the herbs in this infusion are known to help lift the spirits and reduce stress, once we've had a glass... we are for more chill concerning summers, churlish behavior! This little bee seems to be assigned to our potager as he can be found buzzing around the beds pollinating everything, and the plants are showing off his work! He also seemed to know a storm was approaching as he was working much faster than normal. We are grateful for his diligence because there are now 15 watermelons and counting and more tomatillos than we can keep track of... The night sky above the Pixie's potager was lit in a bright ethereal orange glow after the sun had set... The Golden Pixie and the little kitten, Fiona, both believe very much in the baby cats' potential! This Fuzzy little mama has four active babies, and she understandably gets to that place in her day where she's contemplating a long vacation....by herself. if one of them tumbles over her, she simply stares straight ahead as if they do not exist! 🤣 And after her internal break time... she's back to snuggling them, grooming them, feeding them, and generally nurturing the funny little dears! The tomatillos in the Pixie's potager are growing an average of an inch a day. While growth was anticipated, this much growth and the covering of flowers is beyond our expectations... particularly in less than a month of having their antennas. Last year, when we grew tomatillos, they gave us a few fruits and topped out the season at about two feet tall...it was a lack luster performance that made us contemplate whether we should try again. But after revisiting our love of verde sauce and salsa verde, we approached this year with renewed determination....to at least grow more than last year! Hence, the decision to give each plant their own spiral copper antenna. The Pixies thought it best to take no chances! In the midst of the summer heat, some of us need a break from digestion, so we do a bit of a fresh juice cleanse, combined with herbal reasons and water. The Pixies simply add fresh juice into their day for the vitamins, enzymes, and minerals contained within... The Golden Pixie, who loves harvesting and creating juices...for others, would prefer all future juices remain in their solid form when served to her. "It's not that they're not good!" She assured me through a somewhat pained expression. "I just wasn't ready for all tinhat flavor!" She shook her head... and gulped the rest of the juice down before hurrying back to her full-time job of tracking kittens... "What was that flavor..." I could hear her mutter softly as she departed. My glass of juice was delightful and tasted of apples, beets, and celery with a hint of carrot. It's definitely refreshing and nutrient packed! The sneaky masked bandit crept along the porch as brazen as you please and got right to business packing away the kittens food before realizing there was a window full of witnesses to his crime! That didn't stop his thieving ways... It simply made him take note of the exits and keep both eyes on us and one hand in the cat food dish! The cats watched him from a distance, and as soon as we laughed too much at his antics, off he scurried with far less dignity than he would have preferred... The experiment in electroculture expands as we research, implement, and watch our plants respond mostly favorably! The summer in the South is rediculously hot! Sometimes, we just need a break from eating, and so a vegetable juice filled with fresh homegrown veg and herbs is just exactly what nature ordered! The Poblanos and Anaheims in the spiral garden had just a small kick and a bit of sweetness! We charred them on the grill, stuffed them with raw organic jack cheese, and breaded them lightly. The Warrior Pixie made salsa from the fresh tomatoes and jalapenos in the garden, and we served the rellenos on top of it! The peppers in the Agora Spiral garden are already putting out new flowers, so picking the peppers will give them time to concentrate on making new ones! Celebrating Liberty…with a bang! The Fourth of July is celebrated with a great deal of excitement in the Little House! Everyone from the furry babies to the leafy folk are adorned with a bit of patriotic finery before friends and family arrive for an evening of celebration filled with food, cold drinks, laughter and fireworks! The fireworks are the highlight of the Pixies celebration and so the bigger and brighter the better! The Golden Pixie would prefer them to be silent, she confided, but she supposed that was impossible….with all that exploding. I assured her it was… So, out of curiosity, we did a bit of investigation into the origins of the fireworks and were surprised to find they had sprouted to life (literally) and had quite an ancient tale to tell. The (Grandpups) arrived at the Little House, ready to play, learn, and snuggle to their hearts' content...and that's exactly what they did with their pixilated Aunties! The Pixies worked and tended to the tiny canines like they were their own babies. The Dark haired Pixie, who has read and viewed everything she can find on training dogs, and whose current aspirations are to be a dog trainer and breeder, immediately put the pups on a schedule, groomed them meticulously daily, gave the massages, trained them incessantly, gave then puzzles to figure, brushes their teeth and played with them until they dropped in their tracks for a spontaneous wee nap.....and then they began all over again! As the leafy folk respond happily to their copper antennas and copper collars, more research is done, more possibilities open up, and new experiments are embarked upon. The cucumbers have taken ownership of the antennas and grabbed hold of them, even pulling them into their leaves and away from their neighbor...in less than 24 hours after putting them in. Six days later, the plants were happily green with new growth all over, in a week of 100-degree weather.... The tomatoes are determined to grow over the gazebo, and the peppers are continuing to attempt to become trees...
