Will you get smaller plants if you don't weed? Yes (short term) But more importantly no (long term).
Growing in weed polycultures vs traditional garden monocultures. Taking tips from industrial agriculture (on what not to do).

Who doesn't water their garden in a drought? Resilient designs for a food forest.
Timestamps:
00:00 Intro
01:54 Inspiration - I'm just like you, and you can do this too. I make mistakes and still get abundance. The trick is setting it up correctly, so that you have resilience to drought and disturbances.
06:50 Lets go into the no-water garden. Tomatoes grown up through a dense polyculture carpet? It works. It is resilient. Nature plants like this. Tomatoes evolved to grow in these conditions.
09:00 A brief aside on how to grow carrots, when to harvest, etc. These I am saving for seed now (because I missed them last fall), but you want to pick these as late as possible.
10:40 This is what failure looks like - and it's not so bad when you have a good soil sponge. If I had a traditional garden these would all be 100% dead. However, note the difference in density here, and the increased pest damage. Weaker plants = more pest damage. Strong plants are IMMUNE to pests due to strong cell walls. A pest cannot break through a healthy plant's leaf.
11:25 On Perennials vs Annuals in terms of hardiness and resilience to complete total and utter neglect.
12:45 Free plants? Cuttings to generate free plants - ideal location for cuttings is in thickly mulched dappled shade. Look at the success rate, it's almost 100%!
16:25 A 3-4 year before and after of various sections, as well as some of my favorite photos of the last few days. Note that the "before" photos are about 1 year into this journey. These trees started out planted in bare soil, surrounded by grass. I babied them and they struggled. I then discovered woodchip mulch, found permaculture and started mulching. At THIS point the before pictures were taken. I had taken my first step down the permaculture rabbit hole.
From that point to now is about 3 years. 5 years total on this journey so far, with the majority of the impact and planting (80%) being done in the last two only. Imagine this place 3 MORE years from now?!
So watch this video. Check out my brand new "essentials" playlist. This playlist is designed to get you up and running in no time flat. And get started on your permaculture journey today and change your life and your land forever. Build something that is legacy-worthy.

Rain! Polyculture lawn, peach leaf curl, veggie plans
Peach leaf curl:
http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/r602100311.html
UC recommends those mitigating measures, but they all go against my beliefs. If something wants to die, it gets to die, and I replace it with something that wants to live. I will never spray something like fungicide on my trees, because it kills ALL fungus, and mushrooms are the MVP of any food forest. It's what is wrong with how we grow food by eradication and sterilization.
So what have I done the last 5 years? I pull affected leaves as soon as possible, and remove them entirely. I do not chop and drop them as I do not want the fungus to be splashed up and have spores land on new leaves. The new leaves almost always have no infection.
I will continue to do this until it gets out of hand, and then I will replace peaches with pears or apples or something else that grows well here - trying out other varieties of peaches that are strong against this. My newest peaches are varieties that claim strength against peach leaf curl, such as Frost and Reliance. HOWEVER, it has been 5 years of doing this now, and my peaches are routinely my best producers, even after removing affected leaves and "setting them back" in this way. It's not much work, and it solves the problem good enough. I refuse to spray fungicide or copper and it's not needed (opinion only).
Other updates:
Pond water clearing up
Polyculture lawn is what our lawns should be. Permaculturists tend to seethe and anger at the mention of a "lawn". However, grasslands to sequester carbon. What is bad about lawns is nutrient and water sucking monocultures. However, a balanced polyculture lawn can be a benefit to an ecosystem. Not 100% of our space is ever in production - that is unrealistic, especially for someone living with a family and kids. However, for all lawns you DO have, I highly suggest a polyculture lawn.

Lawn repair, King Stropharia, comfrey tea, pond deck
General update video. Comfrey tea is browning up, pond deck is coming together, lawn is getting reseeded to a clover mix (N fixing polyculture lawn), pear insect battles rage on, and more.
Comfrey tea is a foliar or root natural beyond organic fertilizer you can make at home. It leverages the deep taprooted nutrient dredging of comfrey (taking nutrients from way below your garden/trees - so that it doesn't deplete the nutrients for your garden), then cycles that into a nutrient rich water that you use to water or spray your favorite plants with. This can be also be applied as a foliar spray to boost plant uptake faster and at critical times such as just before fruiting or just upon waking up to promote leaves - as it is a balanced N, P and K (plus many other micronutrients) fertilizer.
For a nutrient analysis, look at this research: The Nutrient Content of Organic Liquid Fertilizers in Zimbabwe by AU - Govere, Simbarashe, AU - Madziwa, Benard, AU - Mahlatini, Precious, 2011/05/11
The Nutrient Content of Organic Liquid Fertilizers in Zimbabwe, VL - 1, JO - International Journal of Engineering Research, https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325079408_The_Nutrient_Content_of_Organic_Liquid_Fertilizers_in_Zimbabwe, "This paper assessed the nutrient content of three organic liquid manures made from Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia Crassipes), Russian Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) and Pig Weed red-root (Amaranthus retroflexus) plants." A fantastic read for those who also like getting deep into the science.
King Stropharia is a saprophytic edible (and delicious!) mushroom that enjoys living in some sun, and can live long times in woodchips. This makes it an ideal companion in food forest systems. Today we got some fruiting off ours, and made Asparagus, Onion and Mushroom soup for dinner. Unbelievably tasting free soup.
See in screen cards for links to other videos which discuss each in more detail - this is just an update style video.

Boost your plants - BEYOND organic
Using deep taprooted nutrient accumulators such as comfrey to boost your plants in a healthy way. This isn't organic. This is beyond organic practices.
Comfrey tea can be used as a foliar feed, as a nutrient boost to strengthen plants at strategic times, or as a general all purpose aerobic microbiology boost. Here I show how to do it PROPERLY, to ensure we do not get pathogenic anaerobes in our garden, such as how you would get via anaerobic fermentation methods.
We are using fertile areas of our system to boost developing areas in need.
You can also use this strategy to boost plants just prior to fruit set, to get thick healthy fruit which is impervious to pests.
