When doing a Dutch pour you don't want paint that is too thick as it won't get cells and it won't spread out very well. You dont want super thin paint either as it has a greater chance of muddying the colors and of getting grainy looking (flocculation). I have a bunch of acrylic paint pours sitting around my art room. This one I decided to make in to a clock. I think the end results are pretty amazing. This was a reverse dip pour that I created on a 2'x2' piece of hardboard. The wood was too thin and warped as it dried. I figured that by adding another piece of wood and a layer of resin I could make it solid enough to create a beatiful clock. Pastel colors are pretty easy to make yourself. It just takes a little bit of color theory and a bit of practice. For this acrylic pour I started red, blue, and yellow. I added a tinsy bit of the complimentary colors from each (red -- green, blue -- orange, yellow -- purple) to dull the color and then I added white to lighted the value. From there mix them like a normal acrylic pour. For this dutch pour I used 1 part paint to 2 parts pouring medium (American Floetrol) and then added water to a very thin consistency. For a long time craft paint was the cheapest of options for creation acrylic paint pours on a budget. I recently made a video reviewing My Paintz acrylic paint and in some cases these are better paints for the same price. With this experiement I used a 70% Craftsmart white glue and 30% water mixture as my pouring medium. Then I mixed that 2 parts medium to 1 part paint and then added water to my desired consistency. I then did a flip cup pour with both a set of Craftsmart craft paints and the same color or My Paintz paint. A year or so ago Walmart started selling the Royal & Langnickel Essentials acrylic paint. They used to sell the Simply Acrylic paint. This was my first time trying these paints out and let me tell you for the price they are way better than I was expecting.
