Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding tour from the parking lot
Today I went for a ride and got some video of Bay Shipbuilding which has been owned by Fincantieri for several years now. Ships come into Bay Ship around January or when the ice starts to freeze solid and the Soo Locks close for the season, the ships that come in have repairs completed and lay over at Bay Ship until sometime in March when the locks re-open. I worked at Bay Shipbuilding for 1.5 years on the Sealand container ship contract in 1985/86. Hope you enjoyed the video.

The SS Badger from Manitowoc to Ludington
August 26, 2019 my wife and I sailed on the SS Badger from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington, Michigan, see the sights we saw, here the engine run, see the prop kick out water, the squealing of steel against wood during the shore landings in Michigan, and back to Wisconsin. See people enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the deck, or playing cards in the dining area. See some of the SS Badgers amenities, the bathroom doors swing as the ship moves through the water; see some pictures of our hotel, a walk out on the break wall, and the trip back. I hope you enjoy the video, it was an enjoyable trip. The SS Badger is 410’6” long, with a 59’-6” beam, and a depth of 24’. See links below for more information on the SS Badger. .Below are the addresses my YouTube channel which I no longer have access to, my Instagram page, HRI Services welding Facebook page, and my Facebook page Outdoor Pursuits, and some ship tracing apps.

2017 Boston Harbor Sail Boston Tall ships
In 2017 we went to Boston, MA for a vacation over the fourth of July holiday, one of the attractions at that time was that the tall ships were to be in Boston Harbor. It was named sail Boston, my wife is a huge ship, & schooner enthusiast, and just follow along as I know how much she enjoys them. I lived in Boston in 1984 and worked at General Dynamics Quincy division shipyard as pipefitter for several months, before moving back to Wisconsin. I was not impressed with the Boston winters as being by the ocean they would get some snow but most would melt within days and the temperatures were mostly in the lower to mid 30 degree range, so it was always damp and cold to the bone, I’d rather be in 0 degrees & dry than 35 and wet, at least at the colder temperatures outdoor sports like, skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling are available.

The Charlestown Navy Yard, the USS Constitution in Drydock, and the USS Salem
In 2017 my wife and I made a trip to Boston, MA, and one of the places we visited was the Charlestown Navy Yard because the USS Constitution was there and in the dry dock, and also the USS Salem. This short picture/video clip focuses on the yard, the USS Constitution, and the USS Salem, that day they did not have the ships open for tours so all we could get was pictures from the outside. The USS Constitution nicknamed “Old Ironsides” was built in 1797, it had a 207’ deck and its overall length was 305’, the beam was 43’-6”, the mast was 176’ tall, it had 48 sail’s for a total of 44,000 sq ft of sails, its top speed was 13 knots or 14.96 mph. On August 19, 1812 the USS Constitution went into battle against the British ship the HMS Guerriere, and as the story is told a cannon ball from the HMS Guerriere bounced off the side of the USS Constitution and that is how it got the name Old Ironsides. All portions of the ship below the waterline were covered with copper to help prolong the life of the wood from the corrosive effects of the saltwater. I can tell you that the copper repairs on the bottom of the ship were being replaced with copper from overseas, this was a first time since the ship had been built that the copper was not purchased from ”The Revere copper Company” in the good ole USA, and yes this company was originally started by Paul Revere, and was in his family until 2008. For more on the USS Constitution click the links below.

You will also see pictures of the USS Salem CA-139 which is also located in the Charlestown Navy Yard; it was built in 1945 by the Forefront Shipyard in Quincy, MA for the United States Navy. It is 717’ long, has a beam of 76’-6”, a 22’ draft, she had the first 8’ guns using cased ammunition. For more on the USS Salem click the links below.

Riot Mako 12 Kayak Review
This is my version of the Riot Mako 12 Kayak Review, I really love this kayak I have had it for seven weeks as of the upload of this video. It is very stable, and I have had it out in about 1.5 foot waves. The drive system cannot be installed until you are in at least 20” of water so you will start your journey with an oar and end with an oar. It does take a little getting used to installing and removing the pedal system, upon removal the propeller blade needs to be in the vertical position to lift the drive system out through the kayak, this can be tricky and take several tries even though there is a clear plastic lens it can be hard to see the position of the blade. If you have any questions comment me and I will get back with an answer usually within a day! Update: Do not use this kayakwith the pedal system in weedy areas as the weeds will wrap around the propeller and wreak havoc on the internals of the pedal drive system. If this has already happened to you as it has to me go to my Rumble HRI Services channel for the fix to repair it. Thanks for watching. Cape Ann Whale Watch
Cape Ann Whale Watch in Gloucester Massachusetts, June 26th 2017, on the Hurricane II, this was an awesome trip that was well worth the money, we saw many beautiful sights such as we left the harbor, the great fishing community, lighthouse, shoreline. Once we got out to the whale watch area we got to see many beautiful whales, Finback, and Humpback whales, the trip lasted four hours from when we left the dock till when we arrived back to the dock. The weather for our trip was excellent, it could not have been any better than it was. As we rode back to the harbor we got to see several lobster boats on their way back to the harbor. I was on this vacation to the Boston and also up to Maine with my wife, daughter and son-in-law. The whole vacation was a great time.
