Abubakar Malami, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said that the introduction of naira redesign policy by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reduced drastically the rate of kidnappings in the country. The AGF said this on Friday, February 10, in an interview with Radio Nigeria Kaduna.“I told you the case is still in court, we will obey the court order but we also have right to explain to court the positive sides of the policy. If you see the negative side of it, you have to see the positive sides. If these governors told the court the hardships been experienced as a result of the policy, there are also some problems that the policy is solving. I gave you example of insecurity. Immediately this policy was introduced, the rampant kidnapping has drastically reduced. It also reduced rate of corruption, therefore we have right to go and explain to court these positive sides.

19-years-old girl calls out her 21yrs old boyfriend for abandoning her after allegedly impregnating her. A 19-year-old girl, Charles Gift Chioma, has called out the ‘love of her life’, Precious Izibenya Sambo, 21, for allegedly abandoning her after impregnating her. Gift, who lives in Lagos, narrated how she met and started dating Abuja-based Precious, in September last year. She said things went south after she got pregnant and Precious didn’t want anything to do with her nor the pregnancy. According to her, he had promise to take responsibility if she ever got pregnant but when she eventually did, he denied the pregnancy and blocked her. She added that she is now stranded as her parents have thrown her out of the house and she has no money to sustain herself as she is currently jobless. In a chat obtained, Precious, however denied ever dating Gift, telling her repeatedly to stop referring to herself as his ex, as they never dated.

Nigerian man jailed in the U.S. for opening 25 bank accounts to defraud elderly victims of $3.4m. A 39-year-old Nigerian, Olaniyi Nasiru Ojikutu, has been sentenced to over 7 years in prison in the U.S for his role in an international romance scam. He was one of 10 people indicted as a result of Operation Gold Phish – a Chicago-based probe that identified an assortment of scams targeting elderly victims, CBS News reports. Prosecutors said Ojikutu, a permanent legal resident of the U.S, helped lead a multi-year fraud scheme carried out by scammers in the U.S. & Nigeria. The schemers targeted elderly victims through fake online romances & persuaded the victims to send money after building trust. Over a period of about 3 years, Ojikutu opened about 25 bank accounts in his own name, a fake name & a shell company through which he transferred about $3.4 million in fraudulently-obtained money, prosecutors said.

We don’t have enough paper to print new naira notes — CBN. The governor of the CBN Godwin Emefiele, has said the apex bank does not have the capacity to print adequate new naira notes. Premium Times reports that Emefiele made the disclosure on Friday, February 10, when he briefed the emergency meeting of the National Council of State. According to the report, Emefiele said that the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (The Mint), suffers capacity constraints, resulting in the failure to print adequate new notes to replace the old ₦200, ₦500 and 1,000 notes. “The Mint has run out of papers to print ₦500 and 1,000 notes. They have placed orders with a German firm and De La Rue of the UK (for papers) but they have been placed on a long waiting list, so their orders cannot be met now. The Mint had received CBN’s request to print 70million copies of the new notes, totalling ₦126billion to be pumped into circulation by today (yesterday), The Mint doesn’t have the capacity,” a source said.

Governor. Matawalle orders arrest of Zamfara residents who reject old Naira notes. Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has directed security agencies in the state to arrest those rejecting the old naira notes, saying that it was against the constitutional rights of citizens. Speaking at an event on Friday, February 10, the governor said that the old currency notes remained legal tender until the final verdict of the Supreme Court on the matter. According to a statement by his media aide, Jamilu Iliyasu, Matawalle said, “Anyone who refuses to accept the old currency notes of ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1000 in the state should be arrested.”

The three officers from the department of Explo$ive Ordinance Device, Delta State Police Command, were killed on Friday, February 10, in the Ihiala LGA of Anambra State on the governor’s way to Abia State. The deceased police officers identified as Inspectors Lucky Aleh, Celestine Nwadiokwu and Jude Obuh, were killed by unknown gunmen at about 1.30pm and their vehicle set ablaze. “Four officers were in the vehicle but one was on mufti (not on uniform) so he was freed while the three in uniform were kklled. The Escort commander from the Government House, Asaba, was sent to bring their corpses and deposit in a mortuary in Asaba,” a Government House source confided in SaharaReporters.

Rapper AKA’s bestie, Tebello Motsoane, also shot dead. The close associate who was killed alongside South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes better known as AKA, has been identified as his best friend, named Tebello Motsoane aka Tibz. The duo started off together doing events with Tebello Motsoane managing AKA at some point before he followed his childhood dream and became a chef. They were shot dead by a drive-by shooter on Friday, February 10, at a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. It was gathered that the rapper was at the restaurant with his friends to celebrate his birthday when the tragic incident occurred. Meanwhile, AKA’s family has confirmed his passing in a statement released on his official Twitter page.

South African rapper AKA reportedly shot dead. Popular South African Rapper Kiernan jarryd Forbes better known as AKA, is reportedly dead. He was allegedly shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on Friday night, February 10, 2023, according to the police in Durban. IOL reports that another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard, was also wounded, while another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA, was also killed. It was gathered that AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting. Two unknown cars are believed to have opened fire on the rapper. The shooting happened just before 10pm.

Nigerian pastor’s wife dies after being shot 12 times in the U.S. A Nigerian pastor, Eze Kings, is bereaved following the death of his wife, identified as Eunice Dwumfour, who was shot dead in front of her home in New Jersey, USA. Dwumfour, a republican councilwoman, was shot dead by a yet-to-be-identified assailant on Wednesday evening, February 1, 2023. According to the New York Post, the 30-year-old was hit with about 12 gunshots while driving around her home on Wednesday. The white Nissan SUV she drove crashed into two parked cars before coming to a stop. Paramedics confirmed that she died on the spot. Shortly after the incident, investigators at the scene said Dwumfour was caught on video speaking to the sha, a man wearing a hoodie, moments before her death. Authorities said Dwumfour appeared to be the obvious target of the sha and that a motive was yet to be determined.

20-yr-old Nigerian footballer slumps and dies during match in Spain. A 20-year-old Nigerian footballer, identified as Ado Bala Hadi, has reportedly sluumped and died during a match in the Spanish fourth-tier division. Bela passed on on Sunday, February 5, while playing for CD Madridejos against SP Cabanillas. Confirming the death in a statement on the club’s website, Madridejos said: “CD Madridejos footballer Ado Bala Hadi, 20, died this Sunday afternoon while playing the game against Sporting Cabanillas, at the Madridejos municipal field (Toledo). As reported by the 112 emergency and emergency service, the accident took place at 5:13 pm, when the player began to suffer seizures and 112 was notified, which activated a UVI, an emergency doctor and a life support ambulance, although the young man has died in the field.”
