Why Betty White Decided Never to Have Children
Betty White’s career has spanned nearly a century, making her a household name. But as with any success, sacrifices have to be made. The Hollywood star has hosted Saturday Night Live, starred in The Golden Girls, Hot In Cleveland, and has authored multiple books.
Born in 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, she moved to California with her father during the Great Depression. As a child, she was friends with another comedic star, Lucille Ball. The two would later reboot a version of her late husband’s game show. At 8 Betty got her first role on the radio on a show called Empire Builders, where she played an orphan. After a break from working in the entertainment industry, White experienced her first unsuccessful marriage and joined the American Women’s Voluntary Services in WWII. After that, she returned to entertainment and started working regularly. She started off hosting TV shows before the sitcom Life With Elizabeth sitcom. She later landed the Mary Tyler Moore Show where she won two Emmys. Then there was, of course, Golden Girls.
Betty White didn’t have any kids of her own, but she is a step-mother of 3. She married thrice. Once to an army war veteran, Dick Barker. The entertainer even committed to living on his chicken farm, but they divorced just months after they were married. Years later she attempted love again and tied the knot a second time. Lane Allen, her second husband, wanted to have kids immediately but she wanted to focus on her career. This marriage also didn’t manage to last a year.
The Emmy award winner's final marriage was to TV game show host, Allen Ludden, in 1963. She met him on the game show Password, where she was a guest panelist. He spent the next year asking her out. And she repeatedly told him no. But eventually, they got together and raised Ludden’s three teens, plus a few pups, together. The couple was married for 18 years until Ludden died of stomach cancer in 1981.
Thankful for her step-children, Betty White feels like she made the right decision to not have kids of her own. She’s admittedly an impulsive individual and said that having kids of her own wouldn’t have been conducive to her impulsivity. She has not remarried since Ludden, saying Ludden was the love of her life and didn’t need anything else.

Gary Sinise Loves Raising Millions for Veterans
Actor Gary Sinise is a gift to humanity. Along with being a great actor (hello Lieutenant Dan from Forrest Gump and Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13), Sinise plays in the Lt. Dan Band at USO shows and supports veterans with the Gary Sinise Foundation. And most recently he helped raise over $1.3 Million dollars for war veterans and first responders.
The Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner recently donated a 1981 Jeep CJ7 to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, sending all of the proceeds to first responders and military members. The custom jeep sold at the car auction for a whopping $200k. Sunbelt Rentals stepped in to donate an extra 1 million to the cause.
Lt. Dan Taylor created the Gary Sinise Foundation non-profit organization after the September 11th attacks, which helps wounded military veterans and wounded heroes around the United States. Sinise also created the Snowball Express which helps military families who have lost loved ones by providing therapeutic retreats for children and surviving parents.
Last year, the "CSI: NY" star, who portrayed Detective Mac Taylor, had a total of 15 airplanes in which children and spouses of fallen soldiers were in, and were treated to an all-expenses-paid vacation to Disney World. His book “Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service" follows his journey into full-time service for active-duty military and veterans.

Paul Walker Secretly Bought a $10K Engagement Ring for a Military Couple
In the wake of one of the Fast and Furious’ most beloved star’s death, time has shed new light on the late actor that speaks volumes of his character. In 2004, actor Paul Walker was spending an afternoon in the Bailey Banks Jewelers in Santa Barbara, California.
Newlywed's Kristen and Kyle Upham were also shopping in the same jewelry store for their engagement ring. The couple had already been married for a short amount of time, however, they had opted out of a large ceremony and diamond ring because Kyle was sent on his first tour of duty in Iraq. When Kristen and Kyle Upham noticed the Fast and Furious star in the Santa Barbara jewelry store, the group exchanged pleasantries and a little bit about themselves.
As the military couple persued the jewelry store that day, Kyle and Kristen found the perfect engagement ring. The only issue was the price, which was $10,000. The ring was too expensive for the couple, leaving the store without it.
Sometime after the encounter, the couple was called to return to the store. When they went back, one of the jewelry store clerks came up to them and presented a jewelry bag. Inside the bag was their dream engagement ring. The couple asked what was going on, but the jewelry store clerks wouldn’t give them any information as to who their benefactor was.
After Walker’s tragic car accident in 2013, another store clerk, Irene King thought that the couple should know what a generous man the actor was. According to King, Walker reached out to the manager of the jewelry store and asked that the engagement ring that Kristen and Kyle Upham wanted to be put on his tab. He also asked that the ring be presented to them as an anonymous gift. For years the couple had a feeling that the actor might have been the gift giver, but they had no clue until recently.
Kristen claims the ring the most generous thing that has ever happened to her. The Upham's remain grateful for Walker's act of kindness. The world truly lost a kind soul.
