This is a simple straightforward explanation of how to let go of resentment.
Most people have had a feeling of resentment at least once in their lives. It’s that feeling where you feel emotionally stuck, worried, angry, and stressed.
Most of the challenges we have in our life are because we have unmet expectations. We tend to think life needs to be a certain way, and that people need to act a certain way. When it doesn’t happen according to the way we think it should, we get upset. This makes us not want to “forgive” others for not meeting our expectations.
We will always carry anger and hurt in our hearts if we have expectations of other people and of life conditions which we cannot control.
The answer to overcoming resentment is forgiveness.

In emotional mastery, we don’t settle with just knowing how to correctly acknowledge and appreciate negative emotions. How to Become More Self-Aware Through Mindfulness
In this video, you will learn how to become more self-aware through mindfulness.
Self-awareness is the state of being conscious of your thoughts, feelings and actions.
It is a state which can be tapped into at any given time. However, for people who do not regularly practice awareness, this divine-like state is often obscured by racing thoughts and undigested feelings.
You can train your awareness through mindful meditations. Meditation, at least mindful meditation, is simply about witnessing your thoughts and feelings, recognising when you’ve gotten lost in thought, and then bringing your attention back to the present moment.
Contrary to popular belief, success in meditation is when you’ve noticed you’ve gotten lost in thought and can return your awareness back to the moment.
Training your awareness through mindful meditations has profound benefits. The most glaring benefit for me was learning that the real you is the being who witnesses and experiences your thoughts and emotions, not the thought or emotion itself.
Scientists and psychologists together concluded that after 8 weeks of daily mindfulness practice, the brain showed increased cortical thickness (which is generally associated with improved cognitive abilities) in 4 key areas:
1. Posterior cingulate, which is involved in mind wandering and self-relevance
2. Left hippocampus, which assists in learning, cognition, memory and emotional regulation
3. Temporoparietal junction, which is associated with perspective taking, empathy and compassion
4. Pons, where a lot of regulatory neurotransmitters are produced
Essentially, science indicates that making meditation a daily habit puts you on track to becoming a much more developed person. From my own experience, this is without a doubt true.

5 Minute Body Scan Meditation
The purpose of this 5 minute body scan meditation is to tune in to your body—to reconnect to your physical self—and notice any sensations you’re feeling without judgement.
You do this by bringing attention to your body and noticing different sensations, as you mentally scan down from head to toe.
Most negative emotions have a physical effect, it could be a headache or muscle pain. Whatever it is, the body scan meditation will help you release physical tension. When you notice tension, just focus on it without judging it. Just feel the feeling of the tension.
The benefits include:
Reduced stress by releasing tension

The 6 Steps to Mastering Negative Emotions

1. IDENTIFY THE ACTION SIGNAL
The first step is to identify what your feelings really are.
This is achieved by going through the action signals and asking yourself:
- What am I really feeling right now?
- Could it be something else?
2. ACKNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATE YOUR EMOTIONS, KNOWING THEY SUPPORT YOU
Emotional mastery involves appreciating your emotions. Your emotions are never wrong and shouldn’t ever be perceived that way. This will only prevent honest communication with yourself as well as with others.
It is important to fully feel an emotion by being present with the feeling. This is done by detaching ourselves from the storylines that are playing in our heads whilst we are feeling an emotion, and then noticing any bodily sensations arising due to the negative emotion. You will notice that specific emotions produce specific feelings in the body. If you race to hurry out of a negative state without taking time to acknowledge and appreciate the emotion, then you will only be acting out of a negative state. You are much more effective once you appreciate the feeling.
3. GET CURIOUS ABOUT THE MESSAGE THIS EMOTION IS OFFERING
When your feelings are approached with a sense of curiosity, you will learn a lot about yourself.
Getting curious helps you:
- Interrupt your current emotional pattern
- Solve the challenge
- Prevent the same problem from occurring in the future
4. GET CONFIDENT
When was the last time you felt a similar emotion and handled it successfully?
There is no doubt you can overcome the emotion again.
5. GET CERTAIN YOU CAN HANDLE THIS NOT ONLY TODAY, BUT IN THE FUTURE AS WELL
See, hear, and feel yourself handling the situation.
6. GET EXCITED AND TAKE ACTION
It is time to get excited because you can:
- Handle this emotion with ease
- Take action immediately
- Prove to yourself that you’re capable of overcoming this emotion
