A new twist on RTX GPU scams - eBay scammers have found a new method, that eBay is somehow failing to detect despite prohibiting linking to 3rd party sites. Some of these scams are more clever and look somewhat convincingly like a real store, others are very obvious scams (like rtx-cards). Today I show you how to create the perfect single gpu passthrough virtual machine for gaming or video editing with the latest Windows 11 preview. I showcase cyberpunk 2077 running on the VM in addition to editing this video in Adobe Premiere Pro. VFIO is the best way I've found so far to run Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Photoshop on linux, wine doesn't really work. This is also great for running games that refuse to work under wine, although some anti cheats detect and block VFIO. Many games do work, so it's a good additional method when wine doesn't work. I'm using Arch Linux for VFIO in this video, but you can use any reasonably modern Linux distro. You will need to tweak the startup script if you're using an AMD GPU, to load / unload the AMD gpu drivers instead of NVIDIA ones. The best FREE way to run Windows 11 on m1 Mac's Follow me on Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/atericparker UTM Download: https://mac.getutm.app/ Today we look at a free program based on QEMU for running Windows & Linux on the new MacBook Pros, and Mac Mini with the m1, m1 max and m1 pro Apple Silicon chips. This emulator isn't as impressive as Paralells in terms of running Windows 11 on Apple Silicon ARM CPUs, but it can still outperform Microsoft surface devices. In many ways UTM is equivalent to virtualbox for M1, like virtualbox it has subpar graphics performance but is open source and highly versatile. On Intel Mac's you could simply use Bootcamp in order to install Windows on a Mac, but on the new Apple Silicon series you need to use a virtualization software. UTM is capable of both running a virtual machine (another ARM os), or running an emulated qemu VM. HelloSystem with RTX 2080ti - is FreeBSD good for gaming?. A free and open source operating system inspired by Apple MacOS, with some features inspired by the classic MacOS. It is a free (as in freedom) operating system with source code available, using KWIN & X11 for the GUI instead of Quartz Compositor. If they are able to achieve their goals, I could see this becoming an alternative to Hackintosh systems which will become impossible as Apple fully transitions to ARM (also called Apple Silicon). It's not yet as user friendly as macOS, but I could see it becoming a serious contender in a few years if development continues. A lot of GNU / Linux software already runs because free & open source software can easily be re-compiled for other operating systems. It is also possible because HelloSystem is based on a FreeBSD core, to run Linux software directly through linuxulator, which is helpful because BSDs are not used on the desktop a-lot. It would be interesting to see the HelloDesktop environment ported to GNU / Linux, with some more polish it could be a serious contender, as it runs fast and efficiently. In this video I take a look at North Korea's official Linux distro, "Red Star OS", and using a TTY look a bit deeper at the system internals. Today I show how much money I made on YouTube in 2021 for about 200k views (around 100k monetized), and talk about where traffic on this YouTube channel comes from, along with tips and experience on how to grow your own channel. Overall I'm really happy with how the channel has done, and especially how much so many of you enjoy the videos and I can't wait to see what 2022 and some of the changes I'm going to make to the channel are going to hit. Somewhat inspired by @Roberto Blake 's twitter thread about various platform RPMs. I would like to see more creators sharing analytics (and if comfortable RPMs), to give people an idea of how the platform works. Follow me on Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/atericparker Title: ReactOS 0.4.14 - Free & Open Source Windows NT Remake Today I try out the reactos 0.4.14 release, reactos is a free and opensource Windows remake made using clean room reverse engineering of the Windows NT (new technology) kernel that is the basis for every version of Windows since XP, including the current release Windows 11. ReactOS is specifically based on Windows XP, released in 2001, but they are working to modernize it with 64 bit support, and more software compatibility, which is already extremely impressive. Reactos desktop environment is clearly inspired by Windows classic theme, which is my favorite Windows theme, and what I would use if it was still available on modern versions. One of the most amazing features of ReactOS is binary driver support with Windows, which means in theory gaming will be easy with all of the API's and GPU support. Today I test out CutefishOS a made in China Linux distribution based on debian that looks real nice. Cutefish OS: https://en.cutefishos.com/ Follow me on Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/atericparker Cutefish is a somewhat MacOS & Windows inspired Linux Desktop environment and distro that is based on KDE plasma. It features many elements from big sur and a global menu bar that exists in KDE but is not enabled by default. CutefishOS 0.6 Beta is based on the Debian GNU / Linux distro, currently version 11. I feel like this may have been a mistake due to the older packages shipping with it, but overall the distro is reliable and works well. I was able to install the .deb package of Google Chrome. Just a warning for anyone considering using a vanilla Debian distro. DO NOT INSTALL PPAs, or anything made for Ubuntu. They both use .deb but are NOT compatible in many cases. Today I compare 25 mbps, 50 mbps, 75 mbps and 100 mbps video bitrates for 4k 60 gameplay in Adobe Premiere to see whether it's worth using significant additional bandwidth uploading high bitrate footage. It seems that in most cases the best YouTube bitrate for 4k60 is 50 mbps, with 100 mbps not making a large difference. 25 mbps is absolutely acceptable for those with slower internet, but if you have the bandwidth to spare, it may be worth using. Knowing this information I still strongly recommend capturing your local video in CRF 17 because for creating thumbnail shots, it's good to have a crisp (perfect) image. It also makes running analysis such as FPS counting possible. Just a side note, even if you do not record / play in 4k, I strongly recommend upscaling to 4k because YouTube dramatically raises their bitrate on 4k vs 1080p. (C) Eric Parker 2021

After the acquisition and subsequent announcement of discontinuation, the openBeOS project was announced, which was renamed haiku after a cease and desist from Palm, Inc. BeOS was a revolutionary operating system at the time that almost was bought out by apple and became Mac OS X. While it is not unix like, it is unix compatible and is built on a similar philosophy. It is one of a few free & open source operating systems that are not based on FreeBSD or Linux code. Today I investigate whether Roblox's FPS unlocker mod is a virus or safe to use on Windows. Ricing my DWM setup - Arch Linux + DWM Challenge Part 4. Today I customize (rice) my DWM system to look nicer and be more functional, the main benefit of tiling window managers on Linux is the customizability, where you basically build your own system. Follow me on Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/atericparker Building a desktop environment on Linux with DWM or another tiling window manager is much like building a computer where you can choose individual components. I assume the issue I had with dwmbar and nerdfonts being quite small is because of my screen resolution and the fact that I just increased the x dpi & font size. HiDPI Notes: Neither suckless terminal nor DWM properly recognize HiDPI systems, so if you enable DPI through Xresources it doesn't affect font size. You need to edit the font size in config.h. Setting up Productivity & Email Software + Watching Anime - DWM + Arch Linux Challenge Part 3 Follow me on Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/atericparker In this video I look at using the computer for day to day tasks, installing Thunderbird as an email client, Libreoffice as a free and open source microsoft office alternative and then using MPV to watch anime. For my desktop environment I'm using the dynamic window manager (DWM) from https://suckless.org/ with st (suckless terminal), and dmenu which is often used with various tiling window managers. I'm using the Arch Linux distro and will also install Gentoo out of interest at some point. Arch Linux is an extremely customization lightweight Linux distribution which follows a KISS (keep it simple stupid) philosophy. Combined with a tiling window manager, it makes an excellent enthusiast linux setup. I personally like the pragmatic ideology of Arch where they allow proprietary software in the repos if it is likely to be useful. Personally I've tried several arch linux desktop environments and couldn't decide on a best one (they were all quite mediocre) so this time I'm using a customized window manager. I've used BSPWM before, but have overall found the experience with DWM more satisfying.
