Russia has claimed and the Pentagon has confirmed that the US has sent Ukraine AGM-88 High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM) for targeting Russian radars used for air defense and counter battery operations. While the Pentagon and the Western media have once against hyped the impact of these missiles, the truth is even under ideal conditions they are difficult and dangerous to use - and Ukraine is using them under the least ideal conditions. Update on Russian special military operations in Ukraine for August 20, 2022: 1. Russian forces continue incremental advances in the Donbass; 2. Ukraine’s Kherson offensive remains stalled; 3. The US is supplying Ukraine with additional HIMARS ammunition but not additional launchers; 4. The US is also sending smaller caliber (105mm) and thus shorter-range howitzers in small numbers to join dwindling numbers of 155mm M777s sent by the US earlier; 5. Newsweek and many others both in the mainstream Western media as well as across social media have claimed NASA maps indicating fires in Ukraine “prove” US-supplied HIMARS have reduced the number of Russian artillery strikes. However, a quick visit to NASA’s publicly available map (the link is in the references below) indicates that the number of fires varies greatly day-to-day including some days with hardly any fires at all long before the first HIMARS was delivered to Ukraine. While Western propaganda continues insisting Ukraine will prevail against Russian military operations, the “front line” is quietly being moved to western Ukraine and even Poland. The possibility of a Syria-style buffer zone operation being launched from Poland, Romania, (or both), into western Ukraine remains a possibility. The Western media continues singing the praises of US HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems as well as the arrival of M270s from US allies across Europe. However claims that these rocket launchers are “more accurate” and give Ukraine a “game changing” ability are not only false, it omits the fact that Russia has much more capable systems firing rockets just as accurate and at much further ranges.
