When I look around the world, I see a lot of problems. Most people are focusing on maintaining broken systems. Many of them believe they can somehow repair these failing social mechanisms. My question to you is what happens if nobody is building anything new? If you look around the world and don't see a place where you fit in, it might be because you are the one who is supposed to create it. My whole outlook on life has changed. I've had some experiences over the last couple of years that have made it impossible for me to even pretend to be interested in completing my documentary. ▼ see below for links & more ▼ We need something totally different. We need to get back to individual sovereignty and connecting with community. We need to deal with the challenges in our own lives in a way that makes sense to us instead of dumbing and numbing ourselves with medications, therapies and programs which barely scratch the surface. I've been tiptoeing around trying to please everybody. The mental health system is trying to cater to everybody. It's trying to have an overarching model that makes sense of the human condition but the human condition is too complex for that. Even if you could figure it all out, culture and society is evolving and changing all the time and with it the individuals within it. We are never going to stay the same. People with Bordeline Personality Disorder (BPD) used to be considered the most difficult to work with because the illness was too complex. That's beginning to change now, thanks to some emerging practices and therapies. ▼ see below for links & more ▼ Carissa has over a decade of lived experience with Borderline Personality Disorder. She was in and out of hospitals for 12 years before she discovered dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) which she says saved her life. She is now a mental health peer support worker helping others navigate their recovery journeys. In this video we talk about how she started her own peer support group and all of the challenges that came along with that. We also discuss how BPD can affect personal and intimate relationships and the steps she needed to take to learn how to enjoy healthy relationships.
