The next generation of the Bren, the Bren 2 Ms makes first landfall in the US in pistol form with multiple barrel lengths and two chamberings. Whereas the 805 Bren was designed to a specific set of requirements set out by the Czech military, the Bren 2 is a clean-sheet design. With a bevy of changes, the most noticeable is sure to be the strict weight-loss regimen that the Bren 2 has undergone. With a trimmed-down aluminum receiver and a lower made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, the result is a robust but substantially lighter gun. Gone is the reciprocating charging handle, replaced with one that stays stowed in the forward position until it is needed. Swappable from side to side, it does double duty as a forward assist. Also added is an AR-style bolt catch/release system that is mirrored on both sides of the firearm, as well as a catch/release nestled into the front of the trigger guard. The magazine release and safety are also ambidextrous and located in very familiar locations for anyone versed in the AR platform. Chambered in 223 and 7.62×39, each is available in several barrel lengths. AR-15 style magazines are used for 223 variants, whereas in 7.62 the factory’s magazines are used to ensure last round hold-open and consistent feeding. All variants are swappable to different barrel lengths and chamberings and also feature a modular forend that can be swapped to different lengths. In pistol form, the Bren 2 Ms comes with a flush rear plate that has the provision for attaching a AR-style buffer tube for the installation of an arm brace, cheek rest or similar pistol stabilizing device. For those who wish to SBR, a Carbine buffer tube and stock can be installed or the entire rear plate can be removed and replaced with a factory folding/adjustable stock. A few years back I met Taran Butler just before the opening of John Wick 3 in conjunction with some stuff I was doing at the Staccato booth at the NRA show. New from CZ USA we have the CZ P10M and the CZ P10F Comp Ready. So, I just noticed the FN 509 enough to go out and get one to try it. Before, I wasn’t that interested in it……well I could not tell you why. But then a few of my class mates shot them in the RDS class that Steve Fisher gave in Reevesville SC. The pistol seemed to run like a Swiss watch, and I resolved to get one then to try, and then promptly forgot. Here we are, present day. I have purchase and shot the FN 509 MRD Mid Size. Then I stuck Holosun 507k on it with a C&H precision adapter plate, and there it is. A nearly perfect carry gun, totally adequate out of the box, but taken as far as it can be by adding a red dot. So, my last video on this gun caused quite the ruckus, and I think needlessly caused a ruckus. The Sig P365 is a great carry gun, but if you have aging, arthritic hands, well there will need to be some adaptation. So I adapted. Comparing this to a Glock 19 on the range, it becomes apparent that the Sig is more accurate. So I am back, both to point out what I learned and to give both clarity and rebuttal. Check it out. So take a Ruger 10/22, send it to Tactical Solutions to convert to a TacSol, Mount a Crimson Trace Optic on it and then send it to Franklin Armory to add a Binary Trigger system to it, and what is the End product? So, sometimes you come to this realization that a change is definitely the way to go. To that end, I have had to come to grips with what I need to be a better defensive shooter. And that is a Red Dot Sight. So all of my carry guns are now going to transition to RDS. But...... I also want to even up on my overall accuracy. So here we go. First i send my beloved Glock 45 9mm to C&H Precision Weapon Systems, to get that RDS cut and have a very nice Holosun 407 installed. In order to give me some more edge with a nice new trigger from CHPWS called the TAC Overwatch. When that gets here, then we will be setting off on that challenge to shoot all of my handguns as good as I do the excellent Chambers Custom PHAT WMG C. Stay tuned.
