Metis: Things That Bug You
If you have things that “bug” you – this is the episode for you 😊. The story of Metis is the birth of Athena: the things that bug you, play on your mind: have wisdom within.
We are the play-things of the gods: ruled by powers, we only pretend to understand. The Gods are Alive channel explores mythologies from Antiquity and draws their connections to the modern world. Monsters and Gods may seem fictional, but if you look closely, they may still be very much alive today.

Pygmalion: In love with your own design
This episode is the story of Pygmalion as a metaphor for how we change to be accepted by others and how sometimes, when we love another, we don’t love them in as must as we love the projection of our own ideals onto them.

Empaths: the Modern Nymph.
This episode is dedicated to Empaths
There is undoubtedly magic in the everyday. As the gods of old have faded to myth and legend, it seems only the Nymphs remain. They are in our homes, our most trusted friendships, and with us in our moments of need. They come in the form of Empaths, and like nymphs, these individuals provide something even the most powerful cannot: a connection.

Gods of War: Ares and Mars -Rage and Redemption.
Ares and Mars: the Greek and Roman gods of War. Whilst they share the same story they are treated very differently by their respective people. The Greeks down play Aries whilst the Romans venerate Mars.
The reason? Greeks see Aries as pure personified aggression. Romans see Mars and as pure personified aggression that has been trained, focused and controlled.
Maybe we too can also harness and train our own inner Ares into productive action.

Eye of the Cyclops. The singular focus of addiction.
We talk about the monstrous cyclops as a metaphor for addiction and the hero Odysseus as a personification of self-control. This episodes discusses how a single eyed monster is capable of living within us, driving us, directing us and how we might deal with such a mythical, and yet very real, monster.

Author’s note: I’m very aware that the more common version of the story has Odysseus escaping from the Cyclopes by holding onto the bottom of the sheep as the sheep walk out the cave. I originally came acquainted with this story when I was younger by men shearing the sheep and wearing the fleece. Also, I can never understand how a fully grown man can hold onto a sheep and the sheep having no problem walking out as if everything is totally fine!

Sword of Damocles. How fragile we are.
We talk about the Sword of Damocles and how all of us lives with this. It is an acknowledgment that lives we live are precious and vulnerable to change. The question is how we can best live our lives despite this metaphorical sword over our heads.
Slight change in style - more word heavy and image light on the video. Please let me know what you think & I hope you enjoy this short story :)

Actaeon and Artemis: Vengeance of Vulnerability
When someone reveals our vulnerability, our feelings and actions can be less than kind. The story of Acteon and his gruesome end is such an example. This episode, we review the story and ask what we should do when we find ourselves unwittingly in the same position.
Please let me know what you think in the comments – is it understandable Artemis acted in the way she did? Did Acteon violate Artemis’ privacy and deserve his punishment? Are we guilty of punishing those who see behind our own persona? What’s your takeaway from the story?
