Model Railroad Scenery Lighting
This video describes the concepts behind lighting model railroad buildings, cars, towers and other miscellaneous scenes on a model railroad using LEDs. It includes details on a simple dimming circuit tp achieve realistic lighting effects.
In the companion book are shown practical examples for using LEDs and a simple approach to achieving a high density, low cost method for lighting your model railroad.

Lightning Detector Build
The basic design came from an online tech library and I designed an add-on circuit to interface with my home automation system. I have been using this for many years to warn me of oncoming storms and when to ground my ham radio antennas, There are many add-ons which can be used with the basic circuit including meters, LEDs and alarms. This is the link I talk about in the video.

Model Railroad Control Panel
Summary of Steps
1. Create layout on Powerpoint (leave 1/4" to 3/8 " margins all around)
2. Print out on color laser printer at Staples (use same printer each time for consistent magnification)
3. Have Staples laminate using their heat lamination process (middle thickness laminate)
4. Using metal punch, locate holes on metal backing using laminated layout as a template
5. Drill out holes in metal backing.
6. Punch out holes in laminated layout using hollow punch chisel set
7. Install switches through laminated layout sheet and metal.backing
