In this video, Dr. J and Dr Bernd Friedlander talk about immune system in general. Immune system is the natural defense and it's an complex network of cells, tissues, and organs that band together to defend your body against invaders. Those invaders can include viruses, bacteria, parasites, even fungus, all with the potential to make us sick. They are everywhere – in our offices, homes, and backyards. A good immune system protects us by first creating a barrier that stops those invaders, or antigens, from entering the body.
The immune system can acknowledge millions of contrasting antigens. And it can make what it needs to eliminate nearly all of them. This detailed defense system can keep health problems ranging from cancer to the common cold at bay when it's working correctly.

Changes in blood sugar levels may be a sign and symptom of adrenal fatigue. In the early phase of adrenal fatigue, you can see hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and, in an advanced phase of adrenal fatigue, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is the usual presentation.
The thing is, you may not notice a problem with your blood sugar levels, but that doesn't mean it's terrific. It is essential to monitor and know the symptoms of having a diet full of food content that send your blood glucose on a roller coaster ride of high and low levels. These glucose level swings can result in damage to your blood vessels, raising your cholesterol, and put you at risk for heart disease.
Dr. J and Evan recommend having yourself tested (not guess) and checking the food you include in your food template because they can be the reason for your chronic issues for so long.

Pain in your upper left (UL) abdomen under your ribs can have a variety of causes. Several vital organs exist in this area, including the spleen, kidney, pancreas, stomach, colon, and lung. One of the most common origins of these issues is due to digestive problems. Heartburn typically happens when acid comes back up from the stomach into the esophagus. It can result in discomfort and a burning sensation in your chest. The pain can feel burning, sharp, or cause a tightening sensation.
Additionally, Gastroesophageal Bowel Disease, commonly called acid reflux, is a condition that occurs when you experience heartburn more than two times each week. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is also a chronic condition that involves a group of intestinal symptoms that usually occur together. The symptoms can differ in severity and duration from person to person. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) also includes any disorder that can cause inflammation in your gut; the most common of these conditions is Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

The gallbladder is a pear-shaped, hollow structure located under the liver and on the right side of the abdomen. Its primary function is to store and concentrate bile, a yellow-brown digestive enzyme produced by the liver.
The bile helps the digestive process by breaking up fats. It also drains waste products from the liver into the duodenum, a part of the small intestine.
An excess of cholesterol, bilirubin, or bile salts can cause gallstones to form. Gallstones are generally small, hard deposits inside the gallbladder that are formed when stored bile crystallizes. A person with gallstones will rarely feel any symptoms until the gallstones reach a certain size, or if the gallstone obstructs the bile ducts. Surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is the most common way to treat gallstones.

The gut and skin enjoy a constant dialogue via what has become known as gut-skin axis. In this video, Dr. J and Evan are discussing that while symptoms of gut health issues can be incredibly varied, the skin is often a great barometer for what’s going on inside the gut.
While it might not sound very glamorous, the gut is where 70 percent of our immune system lies. It’s where we make nutrients, metabolize hormones and detoxifying enzymes, neutralize pathogens and make neurotransmitters—so it’s super important to get your digestive health in check in order to feel well and of course, experience clear, glowing skin.
Our skin is our body’s largest organ; it is one of the major systems by which the body expels toxins and waste and is our first line of defense against harmful bacteria and pathogens. Also, almost all skin conditions are linked to gut health, but diagnosing whether or not your skin condition is caused by digestive issues can be tricky.
Moreover, it’s good to remember that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach and no ‘perfect’ probiotic profile guaranteed to work for everyone. The best thing you can do is eat a balanced food template in order to maintain good health.

POTS is a known blood circulation problem indicated by two elements: a specific group of symptoms that constantly happen when standing. A heart rate suddenly increases from horizontal to standing (or as tested on a tilt table) of at least 30 bpm in adults, or at least 40 bpm in adolescents, measured during the first 10 minutes of standing.
It is a form of dysautonomia — a problem of the autonomic nervous system. This part of the nervous system regulates functions involuntarily, such as blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and sweat. The critical component of POTS is the particular symptoms and the exaggerated increase in heart rate when standing.
Management for POTS should be specific to each individual since the symptoms and underlying conditions may vary. Most patients can control the situation with food templates, exercise, and medications. Dr. J and Evan emphasize the importance of the quality of food that we eat and seek medical attention, and undergo tests that will find the disease's root cause for better understanding and achieve a healthier body.

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, a.k.a SHBG, is a carrier protein produced mainly in the liver. It binds to testosterone, estradiol, and DHT and circulates the hormones throughout the body.
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin is a fantastic little glycoprotein that most of us have rarely heard of. Since SHBH is connected to testosterone and other sex hormones, most women are still dark about their SHBG condition. It is an essential biomarker for women to pay attention to!
Since SHBG balances how much hormones are delivered to the body’s tissues, it is necessary to ensure that your levels are in the normal range. For men, that’s 10-57 nmol/L, and for women, it’s 18-144 nmol/L.
Dr. J recommends consuming cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, curly kale, and cabbage that serves to metabolize surplus estrogen and lower SHBG; increase protein - the lesser the protein intake, the better the SHBG concentration; several supplements in reducing uncontrolled high SHBG levels which include magnesium, vitamin D, fish oil, zinc, calcium.

Hey, guys! In this video, Dr. J and Evan talk about addressing gut symptoms via organic acid testing. To start with, Organic acid testing (OAT) became very popular amongst functional medicine doctors and dietitians. It is a urine-based test that gives essential information about the functioning of various bodily systems and to identify possible nutrient deficiencies, gut dysbiosis, and more.
Organic acid testing may be beneficial for people whose symptoms have not yet describe through other stool tests, blood work, or urinary hormone tests. It helps give an immense understanding of nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification abilities, antioxidant status, and gut health, which trained and experienced clinicians can utilize to dive deeper.
Additionally, it helps to identify sub clinically (non-symptomatic) metabolic imbalances to PREVENT chronic illness from developing. Organic acids are results of metabolism that provide insights into how different bodily systems perform. A person who has a chronic health condition or wants to have insight into their general metabolic health is likely to benefit from this test since it only requires collecting a urine sample. Plus, OAT is quick and painless for patients. In this video, Dr. J and Evan talk about the adrenal glands in our body - to produce certain hormones directly into the bloodstream. These hormones will respond to stress and other necessities to our existence. Also, they are discussing the detailed test needed to identify the root cause of problems and what other materials and hormones are essential to keep our adrenals and body healthy.
The adrenal cortex's vital hormones include: (1) Cortisol - controls our sleep/wake cycle. It is released during stress to help your body to boost energy and better handle an emergency. (2) Aldosterone helps regulate the blood pH by controlling the electrolytes' levels in the blood. (3) DHEA and androgenic steroids are precursor hormones that are converted in the testes into male hormones (androgens) and ovaries into female hormones (estrogens). (4) Epinephrine (Adrenaline) and Norepinephrine (Noradrenaline) are often activated in emotionally and physically stressful situations when your body needs additional energy sources to endure unusual strain.
To support the body naturally, Dr. J recommends using herbs such as maca and ashwagandha. Progesterone, estrogen, and estriol may be fit for a patient. However, it is essential to know that protocols may be different for every patient since presentations and lab results may differ.

Getting enough vitamin D is essential to your long-term health. It's relatively easy to get vitamin D through sun exposure most of the year, but that changes come wintertime. So here is Dr. J and Evan discussing why vitamin D matters and how to keep your levels up, even when the days are short and the skies are snowy and gray.
Vitamin D absorbs calcium and helps you maintain healthy bones. It also contributes to the health of your muscles, nerves, and immune system. So if you don't get enough vitamin D, you may be at risk of developing rickets, osteoporosis, other bone disorders, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Older adults, people with dark skin, and obesity are more likely to have a vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D is called the "sunshine vitamin" because your body makes it when sunlight hits the skin. It's more important to keep your vitamin D levels up during the winter because you are at greater risk for getting sick and tend to spend less time outdoors.
