Views of Penglai Waterfall, Caoling Village, Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan. The waterfall is part of the Jhugao River. At the time of visit three small streams were falling down the cliff. Access to the upper part of the waterfall was formerly provided by a aerial cable car. It was irreparably damaged during the 928 earthquake. Impressions from Clearwater Gorge 清水溪, Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan. The valley has been visited by me in 2002, 2006 and 2020. It is a bit off the beaten track but definitely worth a visit. Big changes were observed over the period of time. An earthquake triggered a landslide 01:47:12.6 TST on Tuesday, 21 September 1999 (Jiji earthquake). The huge landslide created a dam blocking the flow of Clearwater river and consequently a temporary reservoir developed, known as New Caoling Lake. The lake was still quite large in 2002. Local tourism adapted to the new situation of having a mountain lake close to Caoling village. Boat tours were provided for visitors. The Water Curtain Cave 水濂洞 was a stop point of the cruise. This video includes some photographs of the lake at that time. Obviously, a cable car had been crossing Clearwater Vally from Chiayi County to Yunlin County prior to the earthquake. The abandoned gondola was still visible high above the valley in 2002. 2006 it had disappeared though same as the lake. The lake finally disappeared during a flood caused by Typhoon Mindulle in July 2004 I would be interested to hear from viewers something about the cable car's history. When was it built, where were the stations, and are there any remains? At nearby Penglai Waterfall 蓬萊瀑布 some parts of the infrastructure of the cable car there can still be found. Service discontinued after the earthquake as well. Caoling area's landscape was altered several times in the past. Footage from a hike on Mount Dadong trail, Guanziling Township, Baihe District, Tainan City, Taiwan. Dadong Mountain stands at 1,241m above sea level. It is the highest mountain in Tainan City and one of the Top 100 Lower Mountains in Taiwan. Along the trail are low-altitude broad-leaf forests. The warm and humid climate allows the plants to grow lush and big. It is about a 700 m climb from Xianzu Temple to the peak of Dadong Shan. Distance is some 4.5 km (one-way). The trail stays in the forest most of the time allowing for a hike in the shade. Consequently, outlooks into the plain are rare. The peak is surrounded by high trees obstructing any view. Footage of Dagang Pedestrian Swing Bridge (aka Great Harbor Bridge 大港橋), Yancheng District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The Dagang Bridge is located in the third channel of the Port of Kaohsiung and is part of the new on-going development for the "Old Harbor Area". After opening on 06 July 2020, the bridge's north side connects with the Pier 2 Art Center and Dayi Pier 2 Station of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) System, and its south side links with the Port of Kaohsiung’s Penglai Shopping District. The bridge design adopts a single tower inclined suspension cable steel bridge with a deck length of 110 meters as well as a width varying from 5 to 12 meters and a tower having a height of 50 meters. The visual theme of the bridge incorporates the imagery of sailboats, dolphins and waves and its exterior design integrally forms a uni-body with an FRP canvas of 84 meters. A second floor landscape platform is also added for visitors to stop by or rest. The Dagang Bridge is a pedestrian swing bridge which can accommodate 550 pedestrians and cyclists at once and can complete its rotation in 3 minutes. It is the first pedestrian swing bridge in Taiwan and at time of opening the longest double-layer rotating bridge in Asia. Three spans (12.5m + 55m + 42.5m) First section is a concrete beam 12.5m span Second section is a single tower cable-stayed bridge with spans of 55m + 42.5m. It is a swing bridge with horizontal rotation of the bridge superstructure to allow for entry and exit of ships.
