Appointed Times - God is Never Late
Throughout scripture we have stories of God setting 'appointed times' for events to occur. Those who walk with God will have their patience and faith tested as the wait for God to act at the appointed time. Are we making decisions in our lives prayerfully waiting on God to convict us as to the best course of action? Are we faithfully waiting as Esther or Mordecai or are we lie Saul, fearful and insecure in our relationship with God. Consider the examples of those who waited on God to reveal himself at the appointed time and be encouraged to walk in faith as they did.

Law of Moses — The Weightier Matters
The Freedom from Slavery
To call ourselves “Christians,” followers of Christ, is to acknowledge that he is the “Master.” His thoughts, attitudes, and actions are ones we want to emulate. When you understand who Jesus was before his life as a human, you can easily see why the law of Moses played a vital role in Jesus’ teaching. Just as he saved Israel from Egyptian slavery, so we too have been saved. Saved to live in obedience to him. So, what was the value of the law of Moses from Jesus’ point of view? And do we value these teachings as our Master does? Searching the scriptures provides the answers.

Law of Moses — Love Your Neighbour
Law of Moses — Love Your Neighbour
In our secular society the question is, “Does the Bible have any place in your life?” And as Christians we might answer a resounding, “Yes.” However, ask many Christians, “Does the law of Moses have any place in your life?” and you might get a different answer. Both Paul and Peter warned of false teachers who would deny their master, Jesus Christ. Using clever arguments they would deceive people while promising them freedom from the law. And this is the reality in many Christian churches. Yet, doesn’t Christ himself say we are to live by every word of God? The law of Moses — the torah, first five books of the Bible — is a part of that “word.” So, what is it’s value?

The Great Commission - Christian Vision and Mission
The Judeo Christian vision and mission were the motivating forces behind the preaching of the gospel to the world in the first century. This vision is alive today and gives us hope for the future in the Kingdom of God.
The mission is the work that God has given his covenant people to accomplish through the ages. And, though the methods have changed as technology has advanced, the essence of the mission is the same for us in this century as it was for the Judeo Christian believers in the first century after Christ. We are to be the living testimony to God’s way of life, the light on the hill, the salt of the earth.

Who is Your Spiritual Father?
The question of, “Who is my father?” is a daunting one for some people for a variety of reasons. The question of, “Who is my spiritual father?” also poses a mystery to many, as the bible may not be totally clear as to whether we have one father or two? A challenging conundrum, but one that Jeff Patton answers, when he presents all the biblical evidence for our consideration. It is vital for a Christian to really know, “Who is our spiritual Father?”

Temptation or Testing
Consider the biblical stories of those who were tempted and tested and the outcome of their trials. The book of Job provides us insight into the nature of the tempter, and what it takes to resist temptation. Zechariah's account of Jeshua the priest once again casts Satan in his role as tempter and accuser of God's people, but there is deliverance. The account of Jesus' encounter with Satan, reinforces our understanding that Jesus was indeed tempted and tested as every human being, but he did not sin. Jesus did not give into the temptation, rather he passed the test. So what qualities and attitudes will help us when facing temptation or testing?
God's purpose is to prove the authenticity of our faith and our loyalty and commitment to him. Let's rehearse some important lessons from our forbears in the faith to help us resist temptation, so that through the tests we endure we can grow in faith and patience.

Marriage — Safe Harbour and Eternity of Love
Marriage may have gone out of fashion in some circles, but living with reality instead of fantasy is important. And the reality is marriage was designed to be a 'safe harbour' from the vicissitudes of life. So is this your marriage? And if it is not, what can you do about it?
An important principle to understand is that your marriage is a covenant, and it should reflect the same kind of covenant loyalty that you have with God. God is interested in faithfulness, and marriage is a training ground for this essential quality of character. God wants to help us live up to his expectations for marriage and he provides wise counsel to help us love and respect our marital partner. So let's delve into God's word to understand his advice for marriage, so it will become our safe harbour in a world that devalues what God holds dear.

Fellowship of the King
In Genesis, the book of beginnings, God initiated a plan that has been consistent through time. It was a plan for man to be brought into fellowship with God and to work in partnership to accomplish his purpose. Yet, there would be challenges, as powerful spiritual forces would always be at work trying to undermine the plan and enslave the people.
Like Frodo and Sam in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, we, as believers, have 'fallen into this story' and have become part of a fellowship — the Fellowship of the King. Once baptized, we became committed to this struggle of God's vision of light versus the opposing vision of tyranny and darkness. We become 'called out ones' and fellow servants sharing a common purpose and working in partnership with God to re-establish the Kingdom of light.
Are you a part of this fellowship and engaged in the work God has called us to do?

Law of Moses - The History for Christians
Law of Moses for Christians:
The History
Most Christians today believe the Law of Moses has little validity in the modern world. They do not understand the history of this belief, nor do they realize the factors that led mainstream Christian thought to repudiate the Law of Moses for Christians. They have not questioned their belief, nor considered the impact of this belief on their behaviour and the resulting consequences.
But history is instructive, and in looking at the views of Catholic theologians, like Thomas Aquinas, Protestant reformers like Luther and Calvin, and modern dispensationalists, we gain an understanding of why the Law of Moses was rejected and what was substituted in its place. Then the real question becomes one of whether these biblical scholars were faithful in their examination of the biblical record, and what does the bible really say about the Law of Moses for Christians.

Christ Must Return — All Things Fulfilled
The disciples during Jesus' ministry expected Jesus, the Messiah, to fulfill all of the prophecies written about him in the Hebrew scriptures. In fact he had promised them that he had come to fulfill all that was written in the law, the writings, and the prophets.
And yet, when quoting the book of Isaiah in the synagogue, Jesus stopped his message half-way through the passage and declared that this portion of the scripture had been fulfilled.
Christ had indeed come to bring the 'good news,' but there was more to the prophecy.
What remained to be fulfilled did not happen in the first century AD. In fact, it has not yet happened. There are those who would deny the scripture and allegorize away the prophecies saying they are all fulfilled 'spiritually'. But if you believe the reality of scripture then you have the hope that Christ will return as promised to fulfill 'all things.' So what remains to be fulfilled and when will these things happen? Let the scriptures reveal the whole story.

Law of Moses — Should we Forget It?
Is the Law of Moses “done away.” The majority report from traditional Christianity would say a resounding, “Yes!” But what do the scriptures say? The issue of grace and law has been debated for centuries, and the majority have been led to believe that grace is all that is needed for believers to be “saved.” But there is the scripturalist view, the minority report. It encourages believers to look carefully at what God says, and to reject tradition that is contrary to biblical teaching. So do you know from God’s perspective, if it is wise to forget the “Law of Moses?”

Don't Rationalize a False Faith - Countering Christian Minimalists
Why did most Christians compromise or collaborate with the Nazi's in the 1930's? The history of that time is very instructive for our time. It also recalls a time in the history of God's people when there were those faithful few who stood up to the overwhelming might of the Seleucid empire . And were it not for their faith in the truth of scripture and their courage to fight the evil of the time then there would have been no Jewish nation when Jesus, the Messiah was born.

The Messiah's Chanukah Message
During the festival of Dedication in Jerusalem the religious leaders were asking, Jesus, “Are you the Messiah?” Though they had witnessed many miracles and heard Jesus’ teaching, they did not believe. They were unwilling to listen, learn, and follow the Messiah. They plotted to kill Jesus, accusing him of blasphemy, because he said he was the son of God. He in turn reminded them of the scripture that said, “You are gods.” For they all were children of the Most High. But they would die as mortals because they had rejected God’s Messiah. The imposter, Antiochus Epiphanes the infamous villain of Chanukah who captured Jerusalem, claimed to be a “god.” Ironically, during Chanukah, Jesus revealed that he was indeed, “God made manifest.”

A Great Miracle Happened There
During the winter season one might think that the “great miracle that happened there” was the birth of the Son of God in Bethlehem…but is that the reality? Luke recorded in his account of Jesus life, the story of this birth to the virgin Mary. This is truly an amazing story. But many would be surprised to know that the evidence does not support a date of December 25th, nor any time in the winter. So what is that miracle that happened there, in the land of Israel, in the winter, on December 25th. It may surprise some.

Divided Loyalties or Godly Loyalty
Our world is characterized by partisan strife and struggles for power between competing factions in governments, business, and religion. But for those who claim to be Christians Paul reminds us that we have been called to freedom. We have been given freedom from lies and the bondage of the selfish nature to embrace the role of 'our brother's keeper'. God has called us to love our neighbour with an unselfish concern. Jesus, our true Shepherd exemplified this sacrificial love in leading his people.
Jesus, in his message to the people at the Feast of Dedication (Chanukah) made a clear distinction between two types of leaders. The hirelings who are self-concerned embracing the culture of death and having little care for those who follow them, and Jesus who came to bring abundant life for his followers. This message resonated with the people who were well versed in the history of the Feast of Dedication and the competing rivalries that subverted the people of God.
The history of the time of the Maccabbees as prophesied in the book of Daniel has many parallels to our present age. It was a time of divided loyalties, of intrigue and political instabily, of lies and deception. So it was difficult to know who, if anyone, was caring for the real needs of God's people. Paul and Jesus both refer back to those historic events as types of a future time in which the political situation will make it nigh impossible to know who is speaking the truth. They warn us to be prepared and to know where to place our trust.
Do you know the advice they have provided for us who live in fractious dangerous times?

God's Covenants — Lasting Promises
The covenants of God served many functions. The covenants provided a form of social organization and a guide to behaviour. They were essential in creating binding relationships of faith, serious life-long relationships. King George of England in 1939 as WW2 loomed large, understood the essence of the covenant, as did his forbear Abraham. The King reminded his people at that critical time in history to, "Go out into the darkness and put your hand in the hand of God. It will be better than a light and safer than the known way."
Abraham was able to leave his homeland and journey to a new land, not knowing where he was going, because if his covenant with the Lord God and his trust in the covenantal promises. As Christ's we are heirs of Abraham and the covenant and children of God. Like Abraham we look forward to the promise of eternal life in the City of God, and like Abraham we are called to walk with God in righteousness.
God will fulfill his covenant promises, for there is nothing too difficult for God. Are we fulfilling our role as children of God our Father?

Covenants of God — The Firstborn and the Inheritance
When Paul wrote that Christ was the firstborn he was highlighting the importance of God's right to select the firstborn. This choosing of the firstborn was typical of ancient societies, but also an important element in the scriptural record. God recorded the story of Jacob and the way in which Ephraim was selected to be 'firstborn' in Israel. As such he was to take a leading role in the covenant relationship with the Lord God that was being passed down from his grandfather, Jacob. God often provides us physical types to help us understand spiritual relationships.
When it comes to the covenant, God's covenant was different from that of the surrounding nations. Curses and utter destruction on those who broke the covenant were common themes in the covenants of pagan rulers. But God's covenant began with blessings. And though there were the curses, they did not lead to utter destruction. Rather, they were a matter of discipline to cause people to return to God. As seen through history and prophecy, God always offered the hope of restoration and renewal through the covenant relationship. Learn more about God's covenant faithfulness and mercy. Covenants of God - An Irrevocable Gift
Are we secure in our relationship with God? Can you imagine God saying to you, "I never knew you!" And yet we have these warnings in scripture encouraging God's people to examine themselves and their personal relationship with God.
So we must ask ourselves whether we are keeping covenant with God. He tells us that his calling and gift of the covenant is irrevocable. God does not cast off his people. And yet we see now, as Jeremiah and Paul did in their time, that many of the people of God are uncircumcised in heart. unwilling to hear God and obey his teaching.
So what does the future hold for God's people and how will God intervene to bring his people back into a covenant relationship with him?
Let the scriptures provide you a vision into the future and a message of hope for all people.

Thankfulness — Showing Gratitude to God
Our gratitude to God, whether formal worship as the congregation of God, or living with a thankful heart for all of God’s blessings, is important to God. Are we among the meek, who express their appreciation to God, and who will inherit the promises? Do we have this dynamic relationship with God that will lead to eternal life? Are we living in a spirit of thanksgiving, listening to what we have heard from God, and submitting to God in obedience.

Thankfulness in Tough Times
Some of the Separatists and Non-conformist Christians found refuge in the new world. Their's is a story of thankfulness in tough times. One couple, Steven and Ann Mumford, sailed for Rhode Island in the hopes of escaping the religious discrimination in England that had made life increasingly difficult. Rhode Island's governor had provided a safe haven for these religious refugees with the creation of a Charter in 1663 that guaranteed freedom of worship. Over time the Mumford's and others established the first Sabbath-keeping congregation in the colonies. Their efforts created the legacy upon which the modern Churches of God have been built.
