The Spirit — Our 'Down-Payment" on Eternity
The apostle Paul readily admitted that it was not his motivational speaking that had brought so many Gentiles into a knowledge of the hope of the gospel. Rather these new converts were being convicted by the spirit of God. The Spirit of God had worked in their minds so they could renounce their past, put away their sinful lifestyles, and embrace a totally new way of living
These changes were not without their challenges and often left new believers in difficult situations in a society that was wholly absorbed in pagan thought. But God's spirit in them would be the power they needed to resist outside influences, while being transformed spiritually on the 'inside.' Paul's audience was familiar with temple worship, so Paul used this idea but totally reframed it to help the Gentiles understand God's plan. No longer would they 'go to the temple' for they themselves were temples of the Holy Spirit and had been purchased by God with Christ's sacrifice. Now they were to live new lives empowered by the Spirit to take care of the 'temple' of their mind and body. And why? God had work for them to accomplish through his spirit. Take a walk with us through the scriptures to gain a deeper understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of every child of God.

God's Covenants: Perspectives of Contentious 'Sisters'
As we approach the Feast of Firstfruits, Pentecost, we should rehearse the important teachings relating to the season. When we look back into first century history, it was a time when the original Christians were co-existing with the Jews of their day, but it was becoming an increasing uncomfortable relationship. And the bone of contention that eventually drove these two 'sisters' to part ways was not what has often been assumed. These sisters shared more similarities than differences, when it came to their shared understanding of the covenants and the promises. But there was something that drove a wedge causing the two sisters to separate, and this rift has never been repaired.
Learn more about the importance of the covenants in your life, and why this pivotal dividing question is one you should understand as a Christian living in a new covenant relationship with the Father.

A King's Oath - Modern and Ancient
The recent coronation of King Charles III and his duty to reign justly bring to mind God's instructions to kings and the hope that Christians have of the return of the King of Kings. The modern Oath that the king affirms has many valuable components. However, curiously, the promise to honour God and the law of God are seemingly in opposition to the promise to promote the state church. Jeff considers some of the aspects of the scriptures that highlight this irony and that would pose a dilemma for any king.
We are also encouraged to consider the coming of the successor to the Davidic throne, the Messiah, and his promise that the Saints will be co-heirs with him ruling on his throne. Learn more about what God required of kings, and gain a vision of the future under the rule of the Lord God, the true heir to David's throne.

Shepherds and Sheep — Fear No Evil
When we deal with life’s challenges, and we are walking through dark times how is it that we can maintain our courage. David, counsels us to “fear no evil!” So how can we have the same confidence that David had to face our walk through the valley of deep shadows?

Shepherds and Sheep — Paths of Righteousness
Are we willing to walk a “straight” path following the good shepherd? And if we do, how does that reflect upon the reputation of our shepherd? Are we bringing honour to his name? And what is the benefit to us if we walk the “right” path, paths of righteousness?

Lessons from Exodus — God Our Healer
One of the great lessons of the Exodus was that God would provide. He would be their leader and guide to the promised land and he could be trusted to keep his promises. One of those promises was that the people would not suffer all the diseases of Egypt and its culture. But this would also be a test of the people and their willingness to follow God's guidance and obey his instructions.
God's way allows for free will and the ability of individuals to make choices. God had provided the path for the people to walk and he promised to be with them, but they needed to embrace God's ways and walk with him.
God reiterated that he was their healer, but God's first principle of wellness was what we would call 'preventative medicine.'
There was no spiritual 'dualism' in God's approach, both the body and mind of those who walked with God were to become temples of the spirit of God. This message relating to physical health was also fundamental to the teachings of the church in Paul's day. View the video and learn more about God's wellness plan.

Lessons from the Exodus — Temptations
Christ left his disciples with a message of warning to watch and pray so they would not give into life's temptations. James reminded his readers that temptation and testing was a vital part of the believer's walk. For it was through testing that we were to build faith and develop endurance. The story of Israel's Exodus and journey through the wilderness was one of failing to resist the temptations they faced. Paul used their example to encourage the brethren to be faithful in facing the tests and temptations that were part of living in Corinth, a city known for its licentious idolatrous culture. Paul wanted people to consider the lessons to be garnered from the lives of the Israelites in the wilderness, as well as, Achan, Samson, David and others who succumbed to temptations and brought great misery on themselves and others. We all face temptations prompted by personal desires or the pressures of adversity. No generation has been exempt from the temptations that John summarized as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.
The good news is that God provides the way out of every temptation. He has the answer and the antidote for the temptations that could lead us into sins that undermine our relationship with Christ and our Father. Let the scriptures provide you with the mindset, the thoughts, and the attitudes that will help you meet and overcome every temptation. Lessons from Exodus — Will We Fully Follow Christ?
Will we fully follow Christ? The stories of Caleb, the leader of Judah at the time of the Exodus, and Jeremiah and the generals of Israel at the time of the Babylonian captivity, are linked by this common thread. We are all called upon to make a choice as to whether we will do God's will and fully follow our Great Shepherd . Most of the adults of ancient Israelites who left Egypt did not follow through on their promise of obedience to the Lord God. They allowed fear and doubt to overwhelm them and forgot all of God's miracles. Much later the people of Israel when confronted with the spectre of Babylonian tyranny also lacked the faithfulness needed to follow through on their promise. So what does God expect of his people and what were the lessons that Paul reflected on when describing our ancestors in the faith and their journey from Red Sea to the Promised land?
Let the scriptures encourage you in your walk so you can fully follow Christ.

Lessons from Exodus - Hard Hearts or Sincerity and Truth
The Exodus from Egypt tested Pharaoh's heart, but it also tested the hearts of the people God was delivering from slavery. Would they listen to the truth and walk in faith? Or would their hard hearts cause them to stumble and not enter their promised land? Could they leave Egypt and its culture behind and embrace God's light and his teachings? Or would they continue to walk in darkness with blind eyes and hard hearts unable to leave behind the ways they had learned in Egypt? As followers of the Lord, we face many of the same challenges in trying to leave a toxic society that despises God's teachings. So how do we overcome the very human tendency towards a heart hardened by stubbornness and self-will? How can we have the circumcised and contrite heart that will help us to enter our promised land? Let the scriptures encourage you in your walk with God.

Lessons from Exodus - Be Holy
After freeing the people from Egyptian bondage, the Lord God directed Moses to tell the people, 'Be Holy for I am Holy.' This is a message for this time of year that resonates throughout the scriptures and over the centuries and will culminate in John's vision in Revelation. God wants us to lead 'unleavened' lives, holy lives , clean lives. Such lives will glorify God as they will be characterized by sincerity and a love of the truth. Both Peter and Paul in their writings remind God's people to be holy and to walk in obedience to the 'holiness code' that the Lord God instructed Moses. God is the same yesterday, today and forever so his standards of right living have not altered. Thousands of years from the time of Moses, David, and Daniel God is still encouraging his people to be clean, washed by his word. They will be holy, set apart from the world, and their thought and conduct will reflect the work of God's spirit in their lives. Do you know God's holiness code?

Shepherds and Sheep - Restores My Soul
Restoration is a major theme in scripture. One might think that those in the shepherd’s care do not need to be “restored,” but a shepherd knows how easy it is for sheep to become “cast,” lost, or injured, for a variety of reasons. Learn how the Lord, the good shepherd, has provided for people like the Shunamite woman. And he will provide for us, so we can confidently proclaim, “He restores my soul!”

Malachi and the Great Sabbath
Malachi, the messenger of God, wrote the Lord's message to rehearse the events and lessons of previous centuries and to foreshadow future events. He wrote in a time when people were becoming complacent and losing hope. This book which forms a bridge between the Hebrew and Greek scriptures was traditionally read on the Great Sabbath before Passover. In God's great human epic, God warns those who say they are his people but refuse to acknowledge their failings and do what is right. God takes issue with the contemptuous priests, who do not honour him. He will judge those teachers who are hypocrites and show favouritism. And, he will contend with those who are unfaithful to him and to each other. The prophet offers hope of the Messiah's return and challenges every individual to live a life worthy of a child of God. Do you know the advice that Malachi offers to you today?

Preparing for Passover — Self-Reflection
While most Christians are preparing for Easter, nevertheless there are those Christians who are still following the example of the apostle John and his disciples Polycarp and Polycrates. In holding fast to the faith delivered once and for all time to the saints, these Christians are following Paul's advice to the Corinthian gentiles to 'examine yourself' before observing the Passover. So why should we examine ourselves/ How is this relevant to our life as followers of Christ? And why is it especially important to examine or reflect upon our life as servants of Christ before we take the symbols of the bread and the wine? Paul was concerned that the Corinthian Greek brethren would be missing out on some of God's blessings if they did not examine themselves and appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as they should.
And what does it mean, to take the Passover symbols in a 'worthy manner?" Let the scriptures answer these questions , so, as a baptized member of the body of Christ, you can participate in this meaningful yearly ceremony with a clear conscience before God.

Do we understand the benefits of having a good master, a faithful shepherd, who understands our every need, and has the means to provide for us? Heart and Mind — A Sound MInd
As our nations are awash once more in financial crisis relating to, In Wall Street-Speak, an 'asset liability mismatch' one wonders if there are any 'sound minds' in the financial sector.
Some problems have rational, if not easy solutions, when you consider the wisdom of scripture to inform a sound-minded approach. We cannot avoid sowing what we have reaped, and now we are reaping what was sown.
But facing major economic upheavals and social instability on the international scale and financial woes on a personal level, how do we have the sound mind that helps us discern a good path forward?
Paul encourages us to leave behind the foolish and futile mindset of those who do not know God ,who are caught in wilful ignorance, whose reasoning is clouded, and who cannot make sound-minded decisions.
Rather, Paul encourages believers to be renewed in their minds and to put on the mind of Christ. This is an ongoing process that continues as long as God's spirit works in us and we are listening to God's wisdom as revealed in the scriptures. It is the sound mind of Christ that will help us to have the balanced focus we need in times of turmoil. Where are we on this journey of knowing and embracing the mind of Christ?

No Compromise — Esther's Story
Considering the ongoing attempts of government to remove Christian thought and biblical discourse from the public square, we need to consider the dangers of compromise and Paul's advice. As we approach the Passover season this year, we should be aware of the leaven of sin in our world, and the woke ideologies that are permeating society at every level. Paul warns us to avoid being tolerant of the evil, lest it corrupt us and our communities. We are God's partners and in fellowship with him, so we cannot be doube-minded and in league with the world's ideologies. Esther faced similar dilemmas. Having been taken to the king's palace, she needed wisdom to deal graciously in her situation without compromising her godly values. Eventually, for the sake of saving her people she was put to the test. We all will face our day of testing and the danger of compromising under pressure. Will we keep God's promises and his vision in the forefront of our minds and hearts? Will we endure and be victorious following Esther's example, when our time of testing comes?

When I am Weak...then I am Strong
God's people, his servants, were not promised a life of ease, or a life without the weakness and pain that is an integral part of human life. Paul understood this when he spoke of his 'thorn in the flesh,' a physical infirmity that hampered him daily. Yet, because of this disability that caused him grief he was able to pen the powerful message that Christ's power in us works best when we are weak and humble. As God's handiwork, created to show his good works, he is the one who renews and transforms us to accomplish his will.
There are times when we are so weak that we wonder whether it is better to live or to die. Paul also faced this dilemma. Do you know what his answer was? It could be what you need to face the hardships, the weakness, and the frailty of human life.

Law of Moses — Living Holy Lives
Christians are called to a holy calling to lead lives worthy of our master, Jesus, the Messiah. We have been given the gracious gift of forgiveness, so we may become a holy people. God extends his grace, “charis,” his favour and blessings, to his people. But then what?
Many people in thinking correctly that we do not earn salvation by keeping the law, then make the false assumption that the law is no longer necessary, or valid. Nothing could be further from the truth of scripture! We are called to live holy lives, lives dedicated to our master. We are to walk humbly with God, in faith and gratitude for God’s gracious gifts. There is work to be done, and the law plays an integral part in our walk of faith.
