Stereotypes are Accurate
I was honoured to teach on the accuracy of stereotypes and how these heuristic 'stories' can be weaponised at the recent 'Australians for Science and Freedom Conference' in Sydney.
Here is a behind the scenes look at the conference which I understand they will be airing soon. https://www.scienceandfreedom.org
The truth is: stereotypes are a species [not cultural] wide adaptation that is accurate in the absence of individuating information. Scarily accurate.
Research data continues to be confirm that stereotype accuracy is one of the most replicable effects in all of social psychology.

Goodbye Wrap Up to Daniel Andrews
I was invited to appear on my friend's show for an off the cuff discussion on the Daniel Andrews pandemic years.
Here is my segment. I'll prepare better next time so my points are clearer but my observation is that two sides are arguing past each other and not showing any empathy at all for the other side and their concerns, and that overall most people aren't politically engaged, and Daniel Andrews was fantastic at cutting through and spinning a simple idea that won them over without requiring them to think deeply.

MY first time in a 63AMG BiTurbo V8
Thank you to Clyde Accident Repair Centre for being the best smash repairer I've ever used in Sydney or Melbourne, and for giving me my first time experience in a 63 AMG (biturbo V8).
Got to say though, after many years driving electric the snarly AMG beast seems a little over the top.
Just like the result you get from Clyde ARC. Top Top Top.

Revelation: I think I am Transphobic
Revelation: I think I am transphobic.
'Phobia' is probably the wrong word because I don't feel fear, hatred or anger toward transgender people but I do think this is deluded and scientifically...garbage.
So 'transphobe' it is I guess, broad as that definition is.
I have invited a number of transgender identifying, transitioning, and de transitioning humans onto Discernable to have a long conversation and educate me (and us all) on what it's like to be transgender. I hope one of them finally accepts the invitation (it's been more than 6 months).
I suspect the high profile cases like champion swimmer Lia Thomas here are not the same as the quiet, transgender people who are trying to get on with their lives with a new identity.
If you are an articulate transgender person who is willing to talk to this transphobe, contact us at support@discernable.io

Real Friendships Are Honest
'You can let friends be wrong. You don't have to be in ideological congruity with literally everything someone believes. If you did that, you would die sad and only.'
'You have to figure out what your deal breakers are. Most of the time we've miscalibrated our threshold.'

Better than QandA: Impossible Conversations with Peter Boghossian
Better than QandA is a new format live panel show that appeals to those who want to think deeply about the world today.
Tonight's topic 'Impossible Conversations with Peter Boghossian' explores epistemology: how do you know what you know? After demonstrating multiple games of 'street epistemology' we will dive into the 'Sokal Squared' 'Grievance Studies Affair' where James Lindsay, Helen Pluckrose and Peter Boghossian successfully published hoax papers in peer-reviewed academic journals to demonstrate the intellectual corruption of academia.
Panellists:
Peter Boghossian joins us live, all the way from the USA. Peter is a Founding Faculty member at the University of Austin and the director of National Progress Alliance. His teaching pedigree spans more than 25 years and focuses on the Socratic method, scientific skepticism, and critical thinking. Peter’s dissertation explored increasing the moral reasoning of prison inmates and aiding their resistance to crime. His most recent book is How to Have Impossible Conversations and his writing can be found in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, Time Magazine, National Review, and elsewhere. His work is centred on bringing the tools of professional philosophers to a wide variety of contexts to help people think through what seem to be intractable problems.
Flying in from Perth is Australia's most controversial comedian: Corey White. Transitioning from criminal lawyer to comedian, Corey has appeared at The Sydney Writers Festival, on Triple M, SBS, and at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He's mic dropped on the SAS, police, "journalists", the legal profession and government approved comedians, with a swag of agenda fluid gags that are rigorously tested, safe and effective for all. Until 2023 he was Australia's most cancelled comedian for daring to raise impossible conversations.

Charges Dropped against 'Horse Punch Guy'
Originally aired: 26 July 2021
Instructing solicitor for Kristian Pulkownik ('Horse Punch Guy') Samir Banga reviewed the footage with us back in 2021 and has now (in 2023) successfully had all charges against his client dropped.
Kristian's legal team is now signalling defamation claims for Kristian who was widely pilloried as 'the Horst Punch Guy' by multiple media outlets.
The judge dismissing the final charge noted that Kristian has been under intense scrutiny, saying 'his noggin was printed all over the press'. After being arrested, Kristian spent three weeks in prison before being granted bail.

2023 NSW Election Wrap Up Analysis
The day after the 2023 NSW election where Labor leader Chris Minns became the Premier, this is what every Australian needs to know.
Politicians can't 'fix' or 'ruin' your lives unless you let them.
Elections definitely have ramifications but way too many people treat politicians like gods or devils - they are neither. Are you relieved? Dejected? Overjoyed? Devastated?
Let me suggest that the political elite, of any party, crave importance and agency in your life and if we keep giving them that regard we are doomed.
So if you are overwhelmed with emotion today, do some introspection and reconsider your mental and emotional priorities.
I don't care who rules the roost, I just want the roost to leave me alone.

Australian Army: Maintaining Stability
This is an actual ad published by Defence Australia in 2023.
I only learned in 2020 that the military have a historically very distinct separation from police forces, and for an important reason.
"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."
The future looks kind of dystopian.

Canada Leads World in Organ Donations from Euthanasia. Is this 'doing the right thing'?
With Canada now leading the world in organ donations from euthanasia, people are starting to ask 'what exactly are the limits of utilitarianism?'.
Do you understand how our society is embracing utilitarian ethics to an absurd degree?
Time to learn what ethics really are!

Australia makes 5th Dose of Covid-19 Vaccines available!
What really grinds my gears is antivax cookers like Karl Stefanovic, here spreading dangerous misinformation about imaginary 'complications' and adverse events with vaccines.
He now claims he is 'done with the vaccines' because he's 'had covid a couple of times'.
Unlike science-deniers like Karl, we will always follow The Science and if ATAGI or any government authority tells us to line up for the next dose, it's time to park the brain and get it done.
Covid doesn't magically go away because you're tired of it, you anti-Science hypocrites. What happened to the heat of a thousand suns that we mustered a year ago against all of the #cookers who threw a tantrum about their 'freedoms'?
It's time we go back to listening to the experts, not some non-epidemiologist on television names Karl telling us that vaccines don't work.
The most successful Premier in Victoria's history made it clear both in his victory speech and when being 'cooker heckled' recently: 'VACCINES WORK'.
Are we really 'all in this together' Australia?

Canadian Dairy Farm Forced to Dump 30,000 L of milk for being 'over quota'
"Canadian government making a dairy farm in Southern Ontario dump 30,000 litres of milk because they have gone over quota.
Can’t donate it to a food bank, or to a hospital, or to a homeless shelter. Right down the drain so we can pay $7 per litre for milk."
Criminal. But not surprising.
Government is historically the most destructive force on the earth by volume of human harm caused.
Even more than nature.

Self-Reliance in The Yarra Valley
Discernable and Big Little Farm are hosting a 1-Day Farm Intensive!
1 hour east of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley, Big Little Farm is an example of how to set up your home (whether an apartment, suburban home or on larger land) to be more self reliant.
From growing food, raising animals, and capturing water to building, reclaiming and repairing infrastructure, our 1-day farm intensive is unlike any 'farm tour' you've been on.
This is a highly strategic and practical day where you will not only witness a working example of self reliance, but you will leave with a plan to implement the same in your home.
If you are planning on making any sort of investment or upgrade to your home and property for self-reliance, you must attend this intensive first. Big Little Farm is a sought after consultancy on how to build a self-reliant lifestyle and avoid spending traps that look and seem nice, but are misguided. You will save thousands.
