Pool renovation: Deck refinishing and preparation for plaster #shorts #diy #poolremodel
Pool Renovation Episode 8: I hired a contractor to do the last three steps of the renovation: Refinish the concrete deck and stain it, replace the tile, and then re-plaster the pool.
The deck refinishing used a product called texture-krete 2000:
https://innovativeconcrete.com/blogs/news/texture-krete-2000-system
The concrete stain is a Behr outdoor concrete stain.
The pool tile is a 2x2 glass tile, dark blue equinox color
The plaster will be SGM Diamond brite

Pool tile installation tip for DIY pool renovation #shorts #bdpgarage
Pool Renovation Episode 7: The DIY portion of the project is about done and the professionals have started installing new tile. Why not DIY? Realistically I can (and you could) do the tile yourself and save some money. This video has a tip to make that easier. The real challenging part is the plaster application. All of the DIY plaster options don't have great long term reviews and so I decide to hire that part out.@bdpgarage

Patching sheet metal on the edge of a chevy blazer quarter panel
The rear quarter panel of my K5 blazer had been previously rust patched and repaired with body filler. I am removing all the body filler from this truck and teaching myself how to straighten all the bodywork by learning metal working techniques along the way. In this case, a previous repair from an offroad accident in Moab Utah needed to be replaced and so I show how I cut the area out, formed a patch that goes around a tight edge and then welded it in.

Pool Renovation Episode 6: Removing old plaster from swimming pool shell #shorts
Pool Renovation Episode 6: Short update on my pool renovation progress. I need to remove the old cracking plaster from the shell before applying new plaster. There's a risk the new plaster could fail if it's applied over old plaster with a weak bond to the gunite shell. Rather than paying a professional to do this portion, I took it on with my son as a DIY project.
If you are or know of a plaster contractor in the east Tennessee area, I'm looking to hire someone for that part so please message me their contact info!

Got Rust? See How I formed a patch panel from scratch and welded it on to my 1971 K5 Blazer.
The rear quarter panel of my K5 blazer had been previously rust patched and repaired with body filler. I am removing all the body filler from this truck and teaching myself how to straighten all the bodywork by learning metal working techniques along the way. In this case, I needed to replace a section of the rear wheel arch that was damaged by rust and previous bad repairs. I found a way to create a patch panel that includes a flanged edge and a bead without using a beadroller or expensive tooling. The tool I did use was a shrinker stretcher kit from Harbor Freight which worked surprisingly good. But I didn't find a good way to create the patch panel until I failed a couple times which are also shown in the video.

Concrete slab lifting tool version 4.0 details and demo.
In a previous video I demonstrated a tool I design and built to lift concrete slabs. That video is here:
https://youtu.be/QFOhVoNTMkw
This video is a short demo of the parts I used, some basic details of how they are built, and what is included in the kit.
This tool can lift my cantilever pool deck slabs that had sunk up to 8 inches in some spots. It allows me to keep the bottle jack above ground and avoid having to dig under the slabs. Could also be used to lift up edges of sidewalks or patios.
The design of the tool is similar to a railroad jack with some twists to help getting the tool under the edge of the slab without having to dig under it very much.
After several requests from people who saw this video, I decided to build some of these for those needing one. To buy one, go to my website here: http://www.bdpknox.com. Current lead-time is about 1 week and the design is now on version 4.0 with several improvements from the original.

Small dent removal with PDR tools? I used paintless dent removal tools on an unpainted fender.
In this video, I'm going to show you how I removed a small dent from a unpainted fender using PDR tools. I used a shrinking disc and a slapping bar as well.
If you're looking for a quick and easy way to remove a small dent from a surface, that's just not possible. Removing dents is just plain hard work but having tools to make it a little easier is welcome and so these tools fit that bill. This video will show you how I used PDR tools to remove a small low area dent in the quarter panel of my 1971 chevy k5 blazer. Thanks for watching!
Here's an amazon link to the kit I used (It's not an affiliate link so I'm sure there's other out there that are better)

Enchanted Rose montage with Raspberry pi
This video is a montage of the process I used to build a mechanical enchanted rose that can drop its petals at the command of a remote computer. The rose was built as a prop for Disney's Beauty and the Beast theatre production my wife produced as part of her theatre company www.lytknox.com. I mounted a raspberry pi mini computer in the base of the rose to control electronic solenoids that drop each of the 8 petals from an iPad used as a remote control. This is a demo of the features and how it works. I'll also link a montage video of me putting it together.

Did I get scammed by Kmart? Part 1 of 2.
I needed to buy some specialty electronic parts for a special project I'm working on for an enchanted rose used in a production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The idea was to use electro-magnets to hold rose petals together on a fabricated rose and drop those petals through the production. I could only find 3 on the entire internet on Amazon, but then I found 3 more on Kmart.com and a lot of drama ensued. Watch both episodes and decide if I was scammed or just the got really bad service.

I put this stuff to the test on my K5 blazer door and found that it didn't do as well on the door but did very well on the fender, which is what this video is about. How to strip paint from rusty truck. bdp-30
In this video I test 6 different paint strippers on my k5 blazer door to see if any of the common hardware store brand products can remove automotive paint easier than sanding by hand. I tried Kleen Strip premium, Jasco paint and epoxy remover, Xylene, Citri-strip, and a green version of Kleen-Strip. The gold standard in paint removers used to be the "aircraft stripper" which has been reformulated to be less hazardous to people and so I also test whether this new formula is any better than the competitors.
Subscribe for my next video where I'll be reviewing a new formula of paint remover that's supposed to work as well as the old aircraft stripper. Once that's done, I'll be getting back to removing rust and repairing some bad welds and more metal shaping on the rear quarter panel.

How To Lift a Sunken Concrete Pool Deck Slab With A DIY Tool
I designed my own tool to help me lift multiple cantilever pool deck slabs that had sunk up to 8 inches in some spots. How to repair a Cub Cadet 1863 Steering Box using Ross Steering box parts, bdp garage Episode 27
In this video, I'm demonstrating how to repair a Cub Cadet 1863 vintage garden tractor "Cyclops" steering box using the case from a Ross Steering box. This procedure can be done at home using simple tools with the cheaper Ross box parts, saving you money and time.
If you're looking for a cost-effective way to fix your Cub Cadet "Cyclops" steerage box, then this video is for you! By following the instructions in this video, you'll be able to repair your box quickly and easily at home. While neither boxes appear to be made anymore, the Ross boxes are much cheaper and easier to find than the cyclops models but don't directly fit on a Cub Cadet 1863.

Mercedes SLK 230 DIY fixing a slow throttle response. Save money by not going to a dealer.
I learned there is a common problem drivers experience with early 2000's Mercedes that the throttle position sensor in the gas pedal can go bad and then cause the car to respond very slowly to throttle pedal input. This can be dangerous if you are trying to merge into traffic quickly and so I show how I went about replacing it.
