Super Mario 64 Playthrough (Actual N64 Capture) - Part 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. This is not an emulator and was not played on the Wii or Wii U Virtual Console. This footage was recorded directly from my Nintendo 64 using a real Super Mario 64 cartridge. I'm collecting all 120 stars in the game.
This game has the distinction of being the first game that I was ever hyped for before its release. I started my Nintendo Power subscription in 1993, so I knew all about Super Mario 64 and the Nintendo 64 well before their release, and I couldn't stop thinking about them.
I definitely wanted a Nintendo 64 on its launch day back in 1996, but since I was 12 at the time, I had no money and had to wait until Christmas. However, a few months after the September launch I managed to play Super Mario 64 at Sears. There was a line of about five or six kids in front of the system, but I managed to get my turn, and I was instantly blown away. That was the only time I got to play the game (or the system) before Christmas.
The Nintendo 64 actually sold out during its initial release here in the U.S., so my mother had a lot of trouble finding one. However, shortly before Christmas, she headed over to Best Buy in the hopes of getting a system, and lucky for her (and me), they had some in stock. So I managed to receive the system, Super Mario 64 and Wave Race 64 for Christmas. I spent that entire holiday season playing through both games.
Since this was one of the earliest full-3D console games, I naturally got lost in the worlds and had trouble figuring out where to go. But that only made it more exciting for me. I spent a lot of time wandering around the levels and seeing what I could discover. I also picked up the official Player's Guide to help me get all 120 stars. I'm using that same guide once again to make this playthrough more efficient.
I have beaten this game several times, and I still find it fun to this day because of the fast-paced physics and the open-ended design. This game is also fun to play with different controllers, so I'm using my arcade-style joystick for this playthrough.
This is being played on my original cartridge from 1996. That first save file with 120 stars is actually my original save file from that Christmas. I've kept it all these years.

Odama Playthrough (Progressive Scan Mode) - Stage 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Odama for the GameCube. I'm playing the game in progressive scan mode using an actual GameCube (not the Wii).
I wasn't the biggest fan of pinball machines or pinball games growing up. To me, pinball machines were too difficult and unrewarding whereas video games were just plain fun. However, pinball-based video games could be fun at times.
As a kid I had played a bit of Kirby's Pinball Land and had seen Sonic Spinball as well, but those types of games didn't really interest me. That all changed in 2005 when Nintendo released Metroid Prime Pinball for the DS.
I was already a huge fan of the Metroid Prime games on the GameCube, so I decided to buy the pinball spinoff, especially since I loved playing the smaller, more accessible games on my DS (such as Yoshi Touch and Go and the touch-screen games in Super Mario 64 DS). Metroid Prime Pinball instantly impressed me and made me a fan of pinball games from that point forward.
When Nintendo later announced Odama, a feudal Japanese pinball game for the GameCube, I paid attention. Since I was busy finishing up college in the first half of 2006, I didn't buy Odama until about August of that year, but I managed to find the game at a discounted price of about $30, which was well worth it.
Odama turned out to be a really fun and interesting game (not to mention challenging), but its biggest flaw was that it was simply too short. This game should have had about 30 levels or so, but it ended up having only 11.
Unlike standard pinball games, Odama requires you to guide your soldiers toward pushing a bell through the enemy's gates in each stage. You also have to use the GameCube microphone to yell out specific commands to your troops such as "Press Forward." Since you can accidentally run over your troops with your pinball, you can damage their morale and cause them to start disobeying you. This makes for a wacky but hilarious game.

Wave Race: Blue Storm - Expert Championship (Progressive Scan Mode)
This is a capture of me playing through the Expert Championship mode in Wave Race: Blue Storm for the GameCube. I'm playing the game in progressive scan mode using an actual GameCube (not the Wii). I'm using my favorite character: Ryota Hayami
I first got into the Wave Race series when I received Wave Race 64 for Christmas of 1996. I played the game countless times and just fell in love with the water-based physics and course designs. I later purchased Wave Race for the Game Boy as well, but it wasn't nearly as fun due to the simplistic 2D racing.
When the GameCube was released a few years later, I received Wave Race: Blue Storm for Christmas of 2001. Blue Storm then carried me through the 2001 holiday season all by itself since I had already beaten Luigi's Mansion about a month earlier.
Although it didn't have many courses and was more difficult overall, Blue Storm felt like a decent follow-up to Wave Race 64. The new weather system was really fun and the turbo function worked well. However, I never really cared for the new L/R-button leaning system which overcomplicated the steering. In addition, the wave physics were a little too stiff compared to the prior game.
For this playthrough I'm completing the expert championship without skipping any buoys. Also, similar to my Wave Race 64 playthroughs, I'm finishing in first place on each course without falling completely off the Jet Ski. I hope you enjoy the footage.
