M4A4(75) Sherman - Walkaround - Doetinchem.
The Sherman M4A4 would have had a cast nose, turret
and a welded hull, with a 75mm cannon.
It would have had applique armour welded
in front of the crew positions and
additional armour welded to the sides.
M4A4 was fitted with a different engine
(Chrysler A57 multibank) then the other
production models of the Sherman.
it would require a longer hull
and more track blocks, for this longer engine
and thus the most distinguishing feature of the M4A4 was
the wider longitudinal spacing between the bogies.
The M4A4 was produced in large numbers and was reliable
American tank, but would be the model to see the most service
with different nations, like the French, British, Canadians,
and even the Chinese army.
The Sherman at Doetinchem would have seen
action with the 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment Fort Garry Horse
as part of the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade.
On April 1, 1945, this tank is deployed to liberate
the Achterhoek and Doetinchem.
During the liberation of Drenthe, the tank was disabled in
Hooghalen on April 17, 1945 by a German Panzerfaust.
It would eventually end up on a vehicle yard
In October 1945, the tank was moved from Hooghalen
to Doetinchem and
refurbished by the men of the FGH regiment and placed
in the Canada Park as a memorial and a gift to
the people of the city.
1965 the tank would be restored by the same men that gifted the
tank the first time.

Cromwell A27M - Antwerp Monument - Walkaround.
Cromwell A27M - Antwerp 11th Armoured Division, British Army Monument - Walkaround.
The British Cromwell, officially designated Cruiser, Mk VIII,
Cromwell (A27M), was developed in 1940 after the Crusader (Cruiser Mk VI) would become obsolete.
Several companies started to develop prototypes, Vauxhall came up with the A23, a scaled down version of their A22 Churchill infantry tank, Nuffield submitted the A24 and BRC&W, both these designs were heavily
based on the Crusader design.
After struggling to get the cooling issues resolved and fit the right engine.
the first prototype of a Meteor-powered A27M Cromwell was delivered to the Army for trials in March 1942, before the A24 and A27L Centaur.
( The development of British vehicles always seem to be overly complex
with several production vehicles and companies developing the vehicles.
Cromwell developing the Cromwell or are involved in its development
(Vauxhall, Nuffield, Leyland, Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon, Rolls-Royce and Rover) and several production dates and vehicles. )
A complete move to Sherman tanks was not acceptable to British forces who would then be dependent on the US for tank production.
The Cromwell with the Meteor engine and main armament proofed
to be superior then the Sherman. The first real field test of the design was carried out in August–September 1943 and the first production
model design was finalised on 2 February 1944.
Total A27 production consisted of 4,016 tanks, 950 of which were
Centaurs and 3,066 Cromwells and it would see service until 1955.
The Cromwell was the fastest British tank to serve in ww2 this was extremely beneficial in both attack and defense
and it could outmaneuvering opponents in a lot of
circumstances, but the speed did do some damaged to the
Christie suspension and the later models the top speed
was lowered.
Production began in November 1942. new names were given to
all three designs A24 Cromwell I became the Cavalier, the Liberty powered
A27L Cromwell II became Centaur, and the Meteor powered A27M kept the name Cromwell.
Cromwell production was almost cancelled, because of the
Soviets had no interested in the Sherman tank anymore and this led to a surplus in Sherman tank.
But the lack of a high-velocity weapon and the failure to fit a High Velocity 75mm gun, to combat the German heavy tanks, would led to the development of the A34 Comet.
But Cromwell's speed and low profile gave an advantage over other tanks, giving the tank the element of surprise and making return fire more difficult.
Cromwell crews in North-West Europe succeeded in outflanking
the heavier and more sluggish German tanks with superior speed,
maneuverability and reliability.
The Cromwell at Antwerp has no historical information, 1947 the Cromwell tank was donated by the British to the city of Antwerp, to commemorate the liberation of the 11th British Armored Division on September 4, 1944 The tank was replaced in various places and
would be restored in 2011.

Because cast hulls could be manufactured cheaper and faster than welded hulls and since the front is where a good deal of the welding man-hours were spent the development of a new cast front started a front that
offered a partial solution to the higher cost of the all welded upper hull.
The Americans would call this M4 the Composite

From from August 1943 until January 1944 1676 M4 Composites would be produced.
The Sherman at Klein Willebroek has no historical information.
it has Serial Number 44434, and was built by Chrysler in October, 1943.
After the war it was placed on the target range and you can still see the damaged on the tank today.
it was salvaged and placed here as a monument to the

On September 4, 1944, the Germans were preparing to thoroughly destroy
the port of Antwerp. The Allies were preparing a attack on the Bridges at Boom. Robert Vekemans, which was a lieutenant

suggest that the Allies could cross the Rupel along an old and less guarded toll bridge. between Klein-Willebroek and Boom.
Because of the actions of Robert Vekemans the Allies could
attack the large boulevard bridge in Boom from both sides and liberate Antwerp.

Pak40 Wreck - Walkaround - 325th Glider Infantry Regiment Monument Manhay.
The 7.5 cm Pak 40 was developed in 1939–1941 by Rheinmetall
after reports of new Soviet tank designs.
The 5 cm Pak 38 was still in testing at this point,
but it appeared it would not be powerful enough
to deal with these newer designs.
However, while the Pak 38 made extensive use of
light alloys to reduce overall gun weight.
As a result, the Pak 40 used steel throughout its
construction and
was proportionally heavier than the 5 cm model.
A modified version of the gun designed specifically
for vehicle-mounting was the 7.5 cm KwK 40.
The Pak 40 was the standard German anti-tank
gun until the end of the war,
23,303 Pak 40s were produced and about 3,500
more were used to arm tank destroyers.
The weapon was effective against almost every
Allied tank until the end of the war,
only struggling to penetrate heavier vehicles like the
Russian IS tanks,
the American Sherman Jumbo and M26 Pershing,
and later variants of the British Churchill tank.
But overall performance was pretty good.
It was also see action in the Vietnam war and would be used by
Norway postwar.
This Pak40 was knocked out during the
Battle of the Bulge and was found in 1996 during
road works, it was propably buried in the ground during
postwar clean up.
The gun would be painted and placed at the
325th Glider Infantry Regiment monument.

The Ferret was produced between 1952 and
1971 by the UK company Daimler.
It was widely adopted by regiments in
the British Army, as well as the RAF Regiment a
nd Commonwealth
countries throughout the period.
During the 1950s, the French army used Daimler Ferret in large

a new machine-gun and Panhard presents a prototype in 1957
armed with a very rudimentary mortar-gun.
Production of the AML 245 began in 1960.

Tiger II Königstiger "213" - La Gleize - Walkaround.
Originally recorded on Jan 21 2016.
This Tiger with Fahrgestell number 280273, was made in the Wegmann & Co, Kassel, Nordhessen, Germany in 1944.
213 was used as a command tank by SS-Obersturmführer Wilhelm Dollinger, during the final battles around La Gleize, on December 16. 213 and another Tiger 221 and a PzKw IV were defending the Werimont Farm high ground on the outskirts of La Gleize.
This Tiger 2 ran out of ammo and fuel and was abandoned, the museum claims that
Dollinger in his 213 and SS-Untersturm-führer Georg Hantusch in his 221 opened up on around 15 US tanks coming from Roanne but scored no hit. The American tanks fired back and blew off the front third of Dollingers tank's gun, but other sources say the gun was sabotaged, by the crew.
And if you look closely at the gun, you can see it's still stuck in a recoil position so it was definitely sabotaged.
After the war the Americans were helping to remove all the abandoned military equipment. Madame Jenny Geenen-Dewez bought the tank in July 1945 from the American troops that where clearing the village. "Price: a bottle of Cognac"
The imposing Tiger was moved into the main square of La Gleize and later restored by using part of an iron tube or original Panther barrel welded to the remaining part of the Tiger barrel, and a Panther muzzle brake from one of Skorzeny's disguised tanks left near Malmedy

Originally recorded on May 16 2016.
The Panhard 178
(officially designated as Automitrailleuse de
Découverte Panhard modèle 1935 178) also called the Pan-Pan
was an advanced French reconnaissance 4x4 armoured car
that was designed for the French Army Cavalry in 1931.
It would have a APX3B turret with a 25 mm SA 35 cannon
and a 7.5 mm Reibel machine gun.
Production would start on 1937 at Panhard.
In order to function as an effective long-range
reconnaissance vehicle,
the Panhard 178 had been kept as light as possible
Rough terrain capacity was somewhat limited however.
But for its time it was one of the most modern
armoured cars produced.

Originally recorded on May 16 2016.
The Renault ACG-1 or moe populair known as the

was a French medium cavalry tank developed in 1931.
To counter the threat posed by the massive Soviet
arms build-up since 1928.
The developed started after the AMC 34 did not meet
expectations, but the AMC35 became a completely new design.
The AMC 35 had about the same dimensions as the AMC 34,
but the hull was longer at 4572 mm to install a
shortened 11.08 litres V-4 180 hp
version of the V-6 engine used in the Char B1.
despite many changes the type was still unfit
for service due to its mechanical unreliability.
But worried by the German remilitarization of the Rhineland
they still ordered seventeen vehicles and
later expanded that order to fifty.

Wakajishi Tank School History video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-aF-s1TvYU
Site: http://www.wakajishi.jp/
Wakajishi tank school was probably opened in 1939, but sources are a bit unclear on that, it was almost destroyed from american bombings that started in 1944.
Now you can find a memorial shrine here dedicated to the students and soldiers that died during the war.
You can also find a Type 97 Chi-Ha here.
The Chi-Ha was knocked out during the battle of Saipan.
It has multiple hits on the right side, and was probably used for target practice.
The tank was salvaged out of a canal together with another Chi-Ha, this one was send to Wakajishi and the other Chi-Ha went to Yasukuni Shrine War Museum.

Tiger I Late Ausf. E - Walkaround - Vimoutiers.
The Last Tiger - Vimoutiers Battle of Normandy - Tiger Tank History.
Tiger I Ausf. E Late at Vimoutiers, France.
This Tiger with Fahrgestell number 251055, Turret Number 251113, The Turret was made in the Wegmann & Co, Kassel, Nordhessen, and the hull and vehicle assembly was done at the Henschel und Sohn, Kassel, Nordhessen, Germany. This late-production Tiger, with steel road-wheels, is one of the several remaining Tigers of the 102nd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion and originally carried the number 224 on the side of its turret. But many sites still claim it's the tank that carried the turret number 231, but that Tiger was commanded by Hans Lorits and was knocked out at Ussy on august 14, Lorits had an impressive amount of tank kills, but was killed with it's crew at Ussy, 45 kilometers from vimoutiers. The Tiger at Vimoutiers was actually commanded by Unterscharführer Reisske and on august 20 his Tiger participated in a counter-attack launched from Vimoutiers to Trun in an etempt to breakthrough the Falaise's pocket. They took several key roads to Vimoutiers but because of close combat in the area the germans took a lot of casualties. On the southwest road to Vimoutiers near Champosoult several enemy tanks from the Polish 1st Polish Armored Division were knocked out. It was during this phase of the operation that Tiger 224 of the SS-Unterscharführer Reisske which took the 979 road breaks down, reisske order it's crew to place starches to blow it up and leave it behind, but only succeded in blowing of the engine deck covers and jaiming the turret. So the Tiger wasn't lost because of fuel shortest but to a big mechanical problem wich states loss of oil pressure resulting in engine failure. All this is based on actuall testimony of Ekkehard Förster and SS-Unterscharführer Wilhelm Fey. After the war Tiger 224 was sold to a scrapper name Morat, but the Tiger was to hard to move and Mr Morat only removed the easily removable parts and the gearbox, after Morat died his sister sold the tank to a scrapper in Caen, that started cuting up the Tiger, and removing the turret, this is were the the cutting marks ontop and on the side of the turret come from. When the local people of Vimoutiers heard of what was going to happen to the tank, the tank was bought for 6,000 Francs, to be place as a monument. in 1975, the tank was recovered by Alain Roudeix, it was restored and placed on the spot it sits now. Note: that the engine deck is restored with Panzer 4 engine deck covers. So in 2017 a plan was made to restore the tank and a site was greated to raise money for the tank, the plan is to restore the tank and place it into an new museum in the town of vimoutiers, but until then only a fence is placed around the tank to prevent any other people from climbing onto it. if you want to help out the project you can visit the site of the vimoutiers tiger association and maybe you can contact them for a donation.
