Chris Kelstrom for Shasta County Board of Supervisors Dist. 5
https://ChrisKelstrom.com/
I’m a fiscal conservative, a Constitutional originalist and lean Libertarian on social issues.
I want to build a new jail or expand the current jail. I want to bring the "punishment” back to crime and punishment.
I'm for giving a hand up to the homeless population but want to curtail some of the handouts to the transient population. I believe there’s a difference.
I want to stop accepting state money with strings attached, I believe that “state” money is money that originated in our county and should be spent how our county decides, not the state.

Lady says Dr. Karen Ramstrom's salary is Exorbitant
At the April 5, 2022, Shasta County, Supervisors meeting, an elderly lady voiced her opinion that twenty thousand dollars a month was an exorbitant salary for the position of determining who should be closed or regulated by COVID-19 regulations. Note that many businesses had to close during a pandemic where a report by John Hopkins University found that lockdown did not work. Also, recently just before a recall election, three of the five supervisors voted to raise county employee salaries. This was at a time where local businesses had been lost or closed, which seems to the citizens to be uncalled for. If the election were to be held today, the current board members would not have passed the action of a raise in salaries.

Why Supervisor Mary Rickert's position as Vice Chair was denied.
Shasta County CA had a successful supervisor recall of Supervisor Leonard Moti. Before the recall election, Moti was appointed chair and Mary Rickert vice chair by a 3 - 2 vote. This was a deliberate move that denied Supervisor Les Baugh from being appointed Chair, which was supposed to happen. The meeting was held just prior to the recall election, and the chair appointments were political and on the assumption that Moti would not be recalled, but he was. Since one of Mary’s votes to vice chair was eliminated, the new supervisor should have a vote. So it was only understandable that Mary would have to face another vote from the new board members.
