Vertical Horizons 1.5m Hydroponics Growing Tower - Vertical Gardening Made Easy
http://www.vhhydro.com
The hydroponics towers from Vertical Horizons are now available in 3 sizes - 1m (for 18 plants), 1.5m (for 30 plants) and 2m (for 45 plants) and the cost is excellent considering the care and detail. They come with everything needed to create a productive vertical garden and everything is food safe, recycled or recyclable.
Hydroponic systems take very little maintenance and produce great yields on a tiny footprint.
In my opinion the incredibly low running costs, high yields and low maintenance make hydroponic systems the method of choice for my leafy veg growing although I have grown micro bush tomatoes and various herbs in them no problem.
As the nutrient requirements can be very different for leafy and fruiting plants I prefer to have separate systems for each type of plants so I can get the nutrients in solution right for the plant - that way they grow faster, mature quickly and yields are always great.
The desktop hydroponic planter I grew the lettuce in was shown first here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMhR0MfSQsg and can be bought from Letpot here: https://letpot.com/

A quick hunt with my friend Colin in the local woods where one small area has produced a nation of Penny Bun, Hedgehog Fungus and Amethyst Deceiver in the past.
Today it gave up lots of Horn of Plenty and some surprise Winter Chanterelle - it is a really productive spot and I'll be back soon for more Winter Chanterelle.
This is foraging for FREE FOOD and considering the current cost (and scarcity) of shop-bought food we would be crazy not to harvest what Nature is providing for us.
As we wandered all over the wood with our baskets containing fungi there will surely be millions of spores distributed into suitable areas so in years to come there will be more of this bountiful natural crop to harvest.
On a serious note, it is very important to learn as many 'outdoor' skills as you can since you never know when you need them.
Having knowledge of natural environments, shooting, trapping, fishing and foraging are literally life-saving skills since without them we die when the current system of on-demand food and easy shopping goes away.....and it will go away at some point - do you want to be the guy fighting a hungry 300lb man-monster or a bloated blue-haired screamer for the last packet of Super Noodles in a ransacked supermarket or do you want to be prepared?
Do you want your pronouns to be Was / Were? ........ nope.
It's a simple choice.
Knowledge is power but we're 'educated' to exist in the system without being taught what the system is and how to navigate the (obvious) pitfalls.
Knowledge costs nothing and can be carried in the mind, given away for free and used to combat ignorance - it's a great deal but takes time and effort to learn useful skills.
Foraging is most definitely one of those useful skills.

A great hunt foraging for the first of the Wood Hedgehog mushrooms / Hedgehog Fungus in my local woodlands. They are great for cooking and will dry for storage very well.
There's not much similar to this fungus so it is a good one for a foraging beginner like myself to identify safely and stock up on for the 'Dark Winter' ahead.
Adding these to the Ceps / Penny Buns I found a few weeks ago will make for a highly nutritious and healthy base for any meal.
There were also a few Amethyst Deceivers found to sprinkle some color into any cooking so it was a good hunt for edibles.
On the non-edible side of things I found some Cramp Ball Fungus / Alfred's Cakes and so demonstrated how good they are as a natural tinder to take a spark.......then I have a bit of a ramble which was edited down from something 3x as long.

Vertplanter - Observer Planter / Hydroponic Plant Pot - First Look
Vertplanter Pot on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BC1134NZ
Vertplanter Website: https://vertplanter.com/
Use coupon code PONDGURU for 12% off
(cheapest on the VERTPLANTER website)
This is a really interesting idea for a planter and although I've used mosses and ferns to plant it up the planter would surely be great for orchids since the water bleeds through the pot very evenly and creates a moist environment for roots.
It is now a couple of weeks after making the video and everything I planted is doing very well. Maybe a mixture of moss and orchids would be the way to go for a truly beautiful display? Mine is very 'rustic' but would look great in a bathroom or bedroom.
I will be giving one of the planters away (UK only) soon so watch out for that - it will be on my THOUSAND YARD STARE channel (not on the PONDGURU channel) so subscribe there and hit the bell to keep notified of new uploads.
There are loads more give-aways coming before Christmas......
Thanks to VERTPLANTER for sending me the planters to review and show viewers of my channels.

Emergency Water Filters - Family and Community Water Filters
Water filters: https://filterpro.co.uk/water-filters-12-c.asp
Video on Family Water Filter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqeLpVSpoHI&t=21s
These are proper water filters for ensuring a clean, healthy supply of drinking water for / if (when) the grid goes down and the water supply stops or for anyone who enjoys self reliance or owns a campervan.
The community water filter will provide clean water for a whole community and is normally installed inside a school, clinic or hospital in disaster zones.
We take clean water for granted in the 'developed' world but our infrastructure can be fragile or messed with as we've seen in the last few years as we move into an age of manufactured crisis, stumbling towards Agenda 2030.
What does having a water filter on stand-by mean?
Well, the worst case scenario is that you have a water filter on stand-by in case anything happens to the water supply infrastructure, nothing happens and you still have a filter on stand-by for the future.
The best case scenario you've got clean drinking water when others are drinking contaminated water and dying from cholera or other dirty water conditions ....... It's a win/win when you're prepared but it's a lose/lose if you're not prepared and there is a huge difference between both scenarios - literally life and death as people all round the world who currently use these filters every day are well aware of.

Drying Porcini Mushrooms in the Food Dehydrator
My dehydrator has been one of the best purchases I have made in recent years as I use it for drying mushrooms, tomatoes, chillis, strawberries and any other seasonal produce which is handy to have around in the Winter.
Up in North East England the 'Winter' months sometimes drag on for half a year....so it's been great to preserve food simply and cheaply (it costs me nothing to run the dehydrator as I use it during the day when the solar system is providing the electricity).
Finding all the free food by foraging and preserving it for free is a great opportunity to stock up when times are good.
It's been an incredible year for fungi so far and over the last few days 3 short hunts have yielded well over 20kg of this valuable fungus and I've now got all of them dried and stored in mason jars......ready for the 'Dark Winter'.

Another Incredible Porcini / Penny Bun / Cep / Boletus Edulis Mushroom Hunt UK
After going back to the deciduous woodland and harvesting some nice Porcini I crossed over to the other side of the wood into some mixed softwoods. Initially there wasn't many fungi evident but I stumbled across an area which had hundreds in......and I filled the basket again.
The hunt after this was shared with a good friend who also filled his basket with top quality Boletus - 3 short hunts have yielded well over 20kg of this valuable fungus and I've now got all of them dried and stored in mason jars......ready for the 'Dark Winter'.

Awesome Porcini / Cep / Penny Bun / Boletus Edulis Mushroom Hunt UK
This was a hunt which started well and got much better as I stumbled upon a few new places which were laden with Boletus Edulis.
The hunt after this is even better and the one after that was shared with a good friend who also filled his basket with top quality Boletus - 3 short hunts have yielded well over 20kg of this valuable fungus and I've now got all of them dried and stored in mason jars......ready for the 'Dark Winter'.
The over-ripe Ceps were taken back to the woods a day later and scattered around in likely looking places in the hope of spreading these awesome fungi further around my local area.

Another September Fungi Hunt 2022 in Super Dark Woods
Filmed a day after the first September hunt and a better result as far as the Boletus Edulis were concerned.
The area which was too dark to hunt in last time gave up some nice Boletus and a Beef Steak fungus so I'm very pleased with this hunt.
Everything from the last 2 hunts has been dried in the air drier and is stored in a mason jar for future use.
Wicker foraging basket: https://geni.us/0g6dRi
It's still relatively early for the main harvest but with some more rain it could cause a major crop to erupt in the woods.
The two edible species found today were Beef Steak Fungus and Cep / Penny Bun / Porcini with nothing else showing yet. I'm sure this area will produce other edibles in the near future as we get more rain.....Only God knows where the golf balls came from....

Eel Traps for Catching Fish and Crayfish
Eel traps on Ebay: https://ebay.us/xL6cm7
I ordered mine from China as there were no UK based sellers at the time. Delivery took ages so the link above is to a new UK seller - delivery should be quick and prices are better than ordering from China....not sure how that works....
These eel traps are compact and are a decent option to have on stand-by in case they are ever needed. Everyone should have some knowledge of trapping and some gear to make that process easier and more productive.
Standard UK legal crayfish traps like this https://geni.us/F6ZohaX are good and will catch plenty of crayfish and fish but neither the zipper and food bag last very long.
I prefer a more robust version of a trap for long term use and storage and the one in this video fits the bill so I'd recommend it.

September Fungi Hunt 2022
A recent walk through my local fields and woods hunting for edible fungi.
Wicker foraging basket: https://geni.us/0g6dRi
It's still relatively early for the main harvest but it was great to find a respectable amount of edibles.
We have had a really dry Summer and the first rains of any consequence fell a week or so ago. Since then I've noticed a few fungi popping up on my lawn and on roadsides so a trip out looking for edible fungi was a fairly safe bet.
The two edible species found today were Field Mushroom and Cep / Penny Bun / Porcini.
The rod and reel I was using to catch the Lord Trout is an awesome combo and the review video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TqramHPKrs&t=44s
Links to all the gear is in the video description of that video.
The spinner I was using in this video is a gold size 2 Fox Vibrax spinner and can be found here (Ebay): https://ebay.us/iId2YP

*Further statement from Vertical Horizon:*
"Having previously carved the Grand Canyon, the mighty Colorado River has only flowed into the Pacific once in the last 30 years. This is becoming the global trend with 70% of the World's fresh water being used for farming.
Hydroponics uses less than 5% of the water when compared to traditional soil-based growing and is rapidly becoming adopted by commercial farmers.
By creating the first truly affordable, complete hydroponic system, Vertical Horizon is helping gardeners ensure that they can save money, increase their yields and do their bit for the environment.
Our systems are so compact that they can even be placed indoors by a window for all-year growing.
Together we can turn the horizon vertical and ensure that there is enough water and food for all".
*My final thoughts:*
If you're not impressed with this growing system and are not interested in growing your own food maybe my words below will change your mind?
This may sound harsh but there is no excuse for not growing our food and the time to do so has never been more critical than now.
Basically we have 2 choices:
1- We do nothing, continue fannying about on social media, watch the fake news on TV, ignore the intentional destruction of global food production and continue to support the people behind the demolition of our civilization by eating whatever the WEF / Bayer / Gates corporations produce for us in the way of estrogen laced GMO fake 'meat', lab grown nutrient deficient Frankenstein 'food'....... and 'ze bugs'.....and we wait for the next plandemic to make us heroes again for sitting on our rapidly expanding backsides.
*OR*
2 - We turn off the TV programming, create a garden, set up simple hydroponics systems to grow vegetables and source locally produced meat from independent farms to provide us with a supplemented diet of organic, healthy food for ourselves and our children. Maybe we learn about hunting, fishing, foraging and get some chickens? Maybe we could install some solar panels too?
As we all have free will those 2 choices are ours to make but one will lead to a short life of ruin and the other will be a revolutionary act in the eyes of the predator class since it will create a level of independence from controlling systems.
This really is a massive opportunity to 'Dig For Victory' and it is great to see so many people waking up and taking action by simply doing what we should all be doing.....and there is no digging necessary with a vertical hydroponic tower.....
The best time to make a start was a few years ago but the second best time to start is NOW.
My excitement at finding these vertical hydroponics systems for sale at a sensible price cannot be underestimated as this is a huge piece of the self-reliance jigsaw, even for people living in properties with limited or no external space for a traditional garden.
In summary, we can continue to support fake 'Green' policies where the same corporations and individuals always seem to hugely benefit at our expense OR we can create our own *true* Green policy which benefits *US* and puts an end to the nonsense. We cannot do both.

New Desktop Hydroponics - LetPot LPH-Max Automatic Growing System
*TIME STAMPS BELOW*
https://www.indiegogo.com/project/preview/a592adf7
https://letpot.com/
I'm really interested to see how the plants grow in this system and I will make update videos. As I have numerous outdoor / greenhouse hydroponic systems the LetPot LPH-Max could be very useful for me growing from seed to small plants before moving them on to my main food production systems.
If you have limited growing space then an indoor growing system could be the answer so if you're interested check out the links above.
The projected selling price is $329 with an 'early bird' price on Indiegogo of $229 and a 'super early bird' price on Indiegogo of $199.

Simple, Cheap DIY Hydroponics Ebb and Flow Growing System
*Sorry I forgot to put the conversion in the video: 450 litres per hour is approx. 118 US gallons per hour*
This is a short video showing a simple DIY hydroponics system I made a few days ago. Materials list below:
43 litre Container: https://ebay.us/49NTzv
I show 2 containers in the video but a third one can be used as a top to protect against slugs / snails etc. and to allow for growing through the Winter by providing a warmer environment due to the greenhouse effect (the real greenhouse effect, not the nonsense we were 'taught' in school).
Urinal Syphon: https://ebay.us/vV2xnu
Oxy Water Pump (450 lph): http://filterpro.co.uk (pumps page)
11cm x 11cm pond baskets (Ebay): https://ebay.us/Utz2B4
11cm x 11cm pond baskets (Amazon): https://geni.us/Ivz2Q
The media used to fill the pots is a coarse ceramic grit and I have a larger version arriving which is more comparable to traditional clay balls. However, it is much rougher and knobbly than the clay balls and from previous experiments with a larger type of this media in ponds I've noticed that the root growth and plant size / health when growing in this media is noticeably better than growing in other media.
I will upload update video(s) and a specific video on the larger media as the trials progress.
Since making this video I have made another system with 1 litre 'air pots' as the media / plant containers and swapped the original clear container reservoir for a mich larger 150 litre 90cm x 60cm x 35cm container to act as the reservoir. Now I have 2 growing systems fed by the same reservoir. Added to that I have used a clear container as a cover for both systems - effectively protecting the plants from inclement weather and pests.
As the systems are outside the cabin where I work I can open them up when I go up there in the morning and close them down on a night when I've finished work - I will make another video showing the upgraded system after I get the new hydroponic growing media so look out for that.
Given the cost of bell syphons and the materials (and associated cost) to make them I'm not sure why people with hydroponics don't use the Urinal Automatic Auto Flushing Syphon - I bought 3 of them for around £5.40 each.

Update on the Tomatoes and Chilli Plants
I've grown a nation of different types of tomato and chilli plants this year and the varieties include:
Moneymaker Tomato
Sungold Tomato
Piccolo Tomato
Green Sausage Tomato
Purple Russian Tomato
Atomic Grape Tomato
Sweet Millions Tomato
Plus various others which I can't remember the names of and early season my NFT hydroponic systems had loads of Micro Tomato plants in them. They matured very fast as I planted them in early February so they were just about finished when I started the main crop of larger plants.
The Chilli plants include the following although the labels all got washed off so I can't recognize them all:
Thunder Mountain Chilli
Chitepin Chilli
Jalapeno Chilli
Yellow Scorpion Chilli
Armageddon Chilli
Apache Chilli
California Reaper Chilli
Plus some more I can't remember....
This harvest shown in the video made 3 x 500ml pasta sauce, 1 x salsa and 1 x chilli sauce - all the ingredients were from the garden except salt, pepper and lemon juice. The same day I made soup from potatoes, leeks, onions, garlic, carrots and herbs - all from the garden and it served 5 people.
Having a garden is awesome......and it's super important since food shortages are inevitable with the insane march toward Agenda 2030 and Net Zero - Remember, you are the Carbon they want to reduce and the likes of the WEF are doing everything to ensure a famine forces uninformed people to beg for their pre-prepared 'solution'.
By growing our own food we can supplement our diets with organic produce and rely less on corporations who put profit over health.
Production of food and power is essential if we're going to navigate the forced changes which will affect the majority of the world's population - and it's not too late to get started.
If enough people wake up the Agenda 2030 nonsense simply will not happen.
Turn off the TV, disengage from 'social' media and get to work - nothing is more important than our families and health as without them we have nothing.
Growing lots of food is easy and cheap once the infrastructure is in place so there is no excuse - you will NOT regret making the effort and it's a situation where you're better to be a year or two early than a day late.

With regard to the 'Nitrate reduction' capability of these filters that is directly related to the type of filter media being used. The Biohome range of filter media is extremely porous and basically replicates what a deep sand bed does but it does it is a perfectly safe environment with no chance of toxic build up from anaerobic activity.
The slower the flow is through a filter the more quickly the water becomes deoxygenated due to the actions of aerobic bacteria and that allows the filter to swing more toward being suited for anaerobic bacteria. This usually happens deep inside the Biohome media (in any external water flow since the flow is slowed down INSIDE the media) but in a slow flow / low oxygen environment (very slow flow filter) more parts of the media can support anaerobic activity since the low oxygen environment inside the filter dictates the balance of active aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
Since most filters sold as 'Nitrate reactors' have the slow flow but use crappy media with very low porosity and tiny available surface area just imagine how effective they could be when used with a good quality, highly porous media.......yup.
Effective full cycle filtration is simply replicating what happens in Nature but so many people still struggle to understand how filtration works, hence my relentless explanations in the videos.......

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day..........Give a man a Bushcraft / Survival fishing kit and he will be unable to resist poaching fish from every stream, river and lake"
As we navigate through the next decade or so of a 'Solar Minimum' cycle our weather will be all over the place, agriculture will naturally be affected due to unpredictable seasons and food availability will subsequently be reduced.
By exploiting the effects of Natural weather cycles to drive through policies sold as 'Environmental' we've now got the World Economic Forum stepping out from the shadows and intentionally destroying the farming industry, eliminating traditional (organic) agricultural practices and disrupting the distribution network in favor of lab-grown 'food' which can be fully controlled and rationed ............ I for one will not "Eat ze bugs"....
"Who controls the food supply, controls the people.." -- Henry Kissinger, 1974
It's not exactly looking rosy but there's no need to panic - there are solutions we can all take to easily mitigate the nonsense.
- Grow your own food - yup, it's as simple as it sounds and any level of food production is good.
- Learn how to hunt, track and trap wild game.
- Learn what wild plants can be eaten (and used for proper medicine).
- Install renewable power supply for your house - solar, wind, ground source heating etc. to be more energy independent. Anything which supplements the power or heating will save money instantly.
These are all skills we would have known back in the day since as a species we had a natural survival instinct and minds which questioned everything. Now through the forced idiocy of TV and 'social' media the vast majority of minds have switched off - let's turn them back on again and start thinking decades ahead instead of minute to minute.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.

How To Make A Solar Powered Wildlife Pond Filter
As promised this is a video showing how the solar powered pond filter is made and the parts list can be found below.
Solar powered water pump (Ebay): https://ebay.us/U7ofCD
Solar powered water pump (Amazon): https://geni.us/M22pjdB
The pump is the 200 lph / 1.5W version.
Foams, Biogravel and mesh bags: http://www.filterpro.co.uk
I used 1.5kg Biogravel split between 2 mesh bags.
Foams and fine pad would be a set of coarse, medium and fine if bought from FilterPro (Foams page) but they're available all over the internet and from any good pond supplies shop.
4" drainage pipe (any pipe of similar diameter will do)
Decent alternative media would be either the 25mm Alfagrog: https://geni.us/kTwG
or Eheim Substrat Pro: https://geni.us/98euQaB as the Alfagrog works very well in muck and the Substrat Pro is as close as possible to Biogravel.
For a normal wildlife pond it will be fine to have the filter on the bottom of the pond, outlet pointed up, but I used steel 'S' hooks and paracord to suspend the filter about 6" up from the bottom of the container I use.
The water coming into there is from my pond filters and it contains lots of sediment which settles on the bottom

I'm always amazed how many generator owners don't have a feed in socket or isolator switch then rely on dragging numerous extension leads out to power multiple appliances every time the grid goes down.
That's a mess, inconvenient and can be dangerous.
A feed in socket and isolator costs very little and saves loads of hassle so I'd definitely recommend installing that if you're preparing for a grid-down situation - next time you have a sparky at the house doing work get them to fit the gear and even if you don't own a generator and could rent or borrow one you'll have hassle free power in a grid-down event.
Ideally I could do with a bigger generator but the little 2kW one I have is very quiet, economical and will run most appliances and all the lights in the house no problem - my plan is to buy a 6kW generator when funds allow.
We also have a combined total of 2kW portable power banks which can be joined up and fed into the generator feed - they are handy as they can be charged using solar, mains power or via a generator and as they're portable they can be used for a camping / camper van type of holiday too.
As far as portable solar power stations go I'd say don't bother with anything under 500W and ideally go for 1000W.
Power is so important in a grid-down situation so I like to be well prepared for plan A, B, C and D.
Plan A - mains power when available (or affordable)
Plan B - 12.6kW solar system with 11.4kW battery back-up
Plan C - 2kW petrol generator
Plan D - A combined 2kW of power banks and multiple portable solar panels
Ideally I'd also have a companion to the Plan B which would be a wind generator of around 6kW and 6kW - 10kW battery back-up........but my wife would kill me....
