The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is inviting the public to visit the Bangkok Thailand Temple, the first temple of its kind in Thailand and the third in Southeast Asia. From today, August 28, through August 31, invited guests are touring the temple. The general public can take free guided tours from September 1 through September 16, excluding Sundays. Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will dedicate the temple on Sunday, October 22. “It’s a beautiful building in a remarkably beautiful city, but it’s much more than just a building,” said Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “We offer the best we can to the Lord, and He offers the best He can for us. This is the place where heaven and earth connect. Henry B. Eyring is an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Henry Bennion Eyring was born on May 31, 1933, in Princeton, New Jersey, to Henry Eyring and Mildred Bennion. His father was a prominent theoretical chemist, while his mother was active in the LDS Church. Henry B. Eyring grew up in a family that placed a strong emphasis on both faith and education. Eyring holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Utah and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Before his full-time church service, Eyring worked in academia and business. He served as a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and later became the president of Ricks College (now known as Brigham Young University-Idaho) from 1971 to 1977. An open house is set to begin for the renovated St. George Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern Utah. The pioneer-era house of the Lord has been closed for extensive renovation since November 2019. A public open house will start on Friday, September 15, and continue until Saturday, November 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, September 30, due to general conference. Elder Neil L. Andersen is an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Born on August 9, 1951, in Logan, Utah, Elder Andersen grew up with strong faith in the church's teachings. He went on to serve a mission in France and pursued a successful academic path, earning a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. After his studies, Elder Andersen went on to achieve success in the business world, but he remained deeply committed to his faith. He has held various leadership positions within the church, including stake president, mission president, and Seventy. In 2009, Elder Andersen was ordained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, a governing body of the church, becoming one of the twelve apostles responsible for global church leadership. In this role, he travels extensively, teaching and ministering to church members worldwide. Elder Andersen is known for his firm testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ and his advocacy for principles such as faith, charity, and the importance of family. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ connection to the land on which the Feather River California Temple sits in Yuba City goes back 50 years. It is a story rich in interfaith harmony and mutual respect. In the early 1970s, Mehar Tumber and his family (devout Sikhs) owned the land and used it to grow peaches. Church leaders had struggled to find suitable property for a stake center, a building in which multiple congregations could meet. Tumber, a man of great faith, was not in the market to sell. But he changed his mind after Church representatives approached him about making a deal. “He loved the idea,” said Raji Tumber, his daughter. “He came home that day when he said yes and said, ‘I’m so happy. We are so blessed to have the Church here as our neighbor, as our anchor. They’re going to anchor us and keep us. We’re going to be in a great relationship.’” The relationship continues today. The Feather River Temple, which opens to the public this week, sits in the same space as the old stake center. That building was razed in 2020 (and many of its valuable materials were donated to other faiths) to make way for a house of the Lord — the most sacred spaces on earth. As a teenager, Sister Kristin M. Yee knew what she wanted and made decisions she thought would help her achieve her goals. One of those decisions was to move away from her family in Idaho to San Francisco. Now serving as the second counselor in the general Relief Society presidency, Sister Yee looks back at that time and sees how important it was to have the influence of the Holy Ghost helping her along the way. “I needed light. I needed Him,” she said. Her journey of faith led her to feel the Spirit guide her along a different path. But this path helped her see Heavenly Father as her “closest confidant and counselor and friend.” “It’s led me to be able to make bigger, I think I would say more difficult decisions, perhaps, in faith.” And growing closer to Him, she says, has led her to true happiness. Every day we all have choices that need to be made. Many of those choices do not have any lasting significance, but there are plenty that do. These choices—the decisions between right and wrong—have more serious consequences than, say, what color shirt we wear. Agency, sometimes referred to as moral agency or personal agency, is the ability each person has to choose right or wrong—or, put another way, the ability to either follow God or not. Agency was given to every person as a gift from God. The ability to direct our own lives and make our own choices is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. Just as physical choices have physical consequences, such as getting burned if you get too close to a fire, spiritual choices have spiritual consequences. It is not possible to make a choice without facing its inevitable consequence. Our purpose in this life is to learn, grow, improve, and progress, with the ultimate goal of returning to God’s presence. Personal agency allows us to participate in the learning and growing process that is essential to becoming better and more like our perfect example, the Savior Jesus Christ. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles would be taking “two months off to focus on his health.” According to the statement, Elder Holland, who did not attend any sessions of the Church’s April 2023 general conference after being diagnosed with COVID-19, is also dealing with a kidney condition and undergoing dialysis.
