Super Volcanos - Civilization Destroyers - Full Documentary
Supervolcanoes are like the supervillains of the geologic world, as stories of their looming threat grow ever more exaggerated. Though massive eruptions do pose real dangers, misconceptions about them abound. According to the United States Geological Survey, a volcano is considered “super” if it has had at least one explosion that released more than 240 cubic miles of material—a little more than twice the volume of Lake Erie. That places it at a magnitude of eight, the highest ranking on the Volcanic Explosivity Index, or VEI, which is used to measure the explosiveness of an eruption.
These are very large eruptions, the impacts of which would be widespread—from avalanches of hot rock and gasses racing down the volcano's flanks to global changes in climate. But there's an important caveat about supervolcanoes that most people commonly overlook: Just because a volcano has had a super-eruption once or even twice in its past doesn't mean its future eruptions will be just as big.
Yellowstone is now perhaps the most famous of the world's volcanoes that have produced VEI 8 eruptions. This geologic superstar has had at least three very large eruptions in its history: Two are super-eruptions that were VEI 8 (some 2.1 million and 640,000 years ago), and one eruption 1.3 million years ago was VEI 7, producing around 67 cubic miles of material.
There are many supervolcanoes around the world other than Yellowstone, including California's Long Valley, Japan's Aira Caldera, Indonesia's Toba, and New Zealand's Taupo. This latter supervolcano is the last to have ever released a super-eruption, which burst free some 26,500 years ago.
Several volcanoes are commonly called “supervolcanoes” but their eruptions haven't quite earned them this super status. Take Krakatau's 1883 eruption for example. The explosions were so loud, they could be heard nearly 3,000 miles away on Rodriguez Island, and they triggered towering tsunami waves that killed more than 36,000 people. Still, even that beast rated at VEI 6.
A volcano doesn't need to have a super-eruption to be dangerous; if people are nearby as it explodes, even small eruptions pose many hazards. That said, not all volcanic eruptions are dangerous. If an eruption takes place far from populations and flight paths, no one may even notice that the peak burst its top.

Stuff that Comes Out of a Whale's Blowhole - It Ain't All Rainbows
Myth: Whales spray water out of their blowholes. Contrary to what you may have seen in such movies as Pixar’s otherwise extremely entertaining Finding Nemo, whales don’t spray water out of their blowholes. Further, the whale’s trachea doesn’t connect to the esophagus of the whale; so when Dory and Marlin went down the whale’s throat, in real life, they’d have simply been eaten.Whales, of course, are mammals that live in the ocean; that’s why they evolved to have a blowhole in the first place. Scientists believe that whales were once land mammals that adapted to live in the sea, likely because the sea held a more bountiful supply of food than the land did during their evolutionary period.Whatever the case, whales’ “noses”, or blowholes, are on the top of their heads, so that they can just barely break the surface to breathe without rising too far out of the water. When inhaling, they flex a muscle which opens the blowhole and take in a big gulp of air.
Then, they relax the muscle to close the blowhole, leaving them free to dive down beneath the surface of the water once more without drowning themselves. It’s exhaling that’s the interesting part. When the whale resurfaces, they have to release the used up air back into the atmosphere just like all other mammals do. This results in a spout, but it isn’t water (at least not at first). The air inside the whale is typically quite warm from the whale’s body heat. When it’s exhaled, it meets the much cooler temperature of the air outside and immediately condenses, making it look like a spout of water. (This is also often mixed with mucus —it is a nose, after all!) The great thing for avid whale watchers is that every species of whale has a differently shaped blowhole (some even have two!) which results in differently shaped spouts. Because of this, an experienced whale watcher can tell what species of whale is nearby just by seeing their spouts. For instance, a humpback whale’s spout looks like a column; orcas’ spouts are somewhat more bushy; and gray whales’ two blowholes are positioned in such a way that their exhalation results in something of a heart-shaped spout. As a rule, baleen whales—those whales who don’t have teeth, but rather have baleen plates to filter food out of the water—have two blowholes, while toothed whales have just one blowhole. Types of baleen whales include the humpback, blue, and gray whales.
This is, of course, another inaccuracy in Finding Nemo as that was a humpback whale that they showed having only one blowhole. Meanwhile, toothed whales include sperm whales and beluga whales, among others. Interestingly, the blowhole of a sperm whale is actually located on its left side rather than right on top of its head. It’s technically a “left nostril.” While they don’t have a right nostril, they do have a right nasal passage that is fully developed; it just lacks an opening. (Well, about 85% of humans breathe out of just one nostril at a time, so it works!)Luckily for whales, they don’t have to keep coming up for air every few minutes like we’d have to. Sperm whales, for instance, can hold their breath for about an hour and a half.Part of their ability to stay underwater so long comes down to the size of their lungs which are, as you can imagine, pretty large (to give you an idea, a blue whale’s lung capacity is 5000 litres, or 1320 gallons). However, it also has to do with the way whales are able to process the air that goes in. It’s estimated that whales use about 90% of the oxygen that enters their lungs, making the most of each breath. In comparison, humans are estimated to use only about 15% of the oxygen we breathe.

Journeys Through Time Manipulation - Full Documentary
“Time Limits” is a wonderful journey that first brings to life the slow-motion world of plants and then takes us into shorter timescales, to find elements that exist for less than a millionth of a second, or elementary particles that flash into existence for less than a billionth of a second. It felt like a heartbeat, and yet a full hour has passed! This well-known expression shows that our perception of events is influenced by subjective factors. Personal experience aside, science tells us man has an inbuilt “timer” hidden in his body. Our perception of time is based on the second - more or less the length of a heartbeat. It is difficult to even imagine events that take place on longer or shorter timescales, such as the growing of plants or the muscle movements of an athlete during a race. Cinema comes to our rescue and opens up new horizons for us with the help of time lapse photography.
How would the world around us change, if we could speed up or slow down time?
The documentary leverages a combination of amazing new camera techniques, dramatic computer animation and the latest scientific advances to give a totally new view of our world and our universe, which are regulated by a dramatically varying pace.

SEX Science - Secrets of Attraction - Full Documentary
https://www.youtube.com/user/PioneerProductionsUK ...Do you believe in soul mates? How about love at first sight? Do you think you’re destined to find that one-in-six-billion diamond in the rough or is happily-ever-after a matter of compromise, hard work and compatibility? You may think you’ve selected your paramour based on similar interests or that witty sense of humor, but science suggests that there are biological forces at play as well. Sexual chemistry involves a balance of both behavioral and chemical elements and we still have lots to learn about their complex interplay. The following summarizes some of the most interesting research findings that help to explain the mystery of sexual chemistry.
Which Personality Type Are You?
If the success of algorithm-based dating sites like E-Harmony and Chemistry.com is any indication of popular belief, it would seem that there is an overwhelming consensus that happily-ever-after is firmly rooted in personality-based matching. Dr. Helen Fisher, the anthropologist behind the Chemistry.com brand divides daters into four personality styles or temperament dimensions that shape our thoughts and behaviours:
Explorers are drawn to risk, optimism, creativity and impulsivness.
Builders are more cautious, calm, traditional and persistent.
Directors are analytical, decisive and sometimes aggressive.
Negotiators are imaginative, compassionate, intuitive and idealistic.
Though none of us falls exclusively into a distinct category, one’s primary style is based on the body’s reactions to dopamine, serotonin, testosterone and estrogen. Accordingly, chemistry depends on how your personality matches or conflicts with a potential partner’s and is rooted in the interaction between behaviour and hormonal response.
How Our Hormones Play A Role
Hormonal activity underlies sexual attraction, desire and arousal as a flurry of chemicals react to external stimuli. It only makes sense, therefore, that hormones play a significant role in determining sexual chemistry. Estrogen and testosterone tend to take centre-stage as pheromones offer a subconscious whiff of fertility resulting in lustful attraction. Sexual chemistry, however, is further developed as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin promote attraction, and oxytocin and vasopressin promote bonding with a partner.
If we apply Fisher’s model of personality styles to the role of hormones in determining sexual chemistry, we see more specific ways in which biology may determine behavior and partner selection: For example, Explorers tend to be curious, energetic and prone to boredom. Fisher links these elements to variations in dopamine that lead to a desire for novelty, excitement and adventure. On the other hand, elevated serotonin activity is associated with the behaviors common to Builders including respect for authority, self-control and conscientiousness. Interestingly, Builders and Explorers tend to be attracted to their own kind while Directors (whose behaviors are rooted in higher testosterone levels) and Negotiators (who may exhibit higher levels of estrogen and oxytocin) tend to be drawn to one another.
How We Look (And Why Our Parents’ Appearance Affects Our Choices)
Whether you’re into blondes, brunettes, gingers or all of the above, physical attraction lays the groundwork for sexual chemistry. Though attraction and chemistry are not necessarily one and the same, as the former can exist without the latter, science suggests that physical attraction may be biological in nature. I suggest you take these interesting (generalized) findings with a grain of salt and remember that sexual chemistry is as unique as your fingerprint:
-Facial symmetry matters. According to Kendra Schmid, an assistant professor of biostatistics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the ideal length to width ratio is 1.6 and a division into three equal thirds (forehead, bottom of forehead to nose, bottom of nose to chin) is ideal. I wouldn’t waste my energy pulling out a ruler for this one…
Men rate women as more attractive when they’re ovulating; scientists believe this may be related to a natural flush or glow in the skin.
Men and women whose parents were over the age of thirty when they gave birth are less attracted to youthful looks and more attracted to facial age cues.
We’re attracted to partners who have a similar hair and eye colour as our opposite-sex parent.
It’s in your eyes! People with darker limbal rings (the circle around the iris of the eye) are rated as more attractive.
Your clothing color matters. Studies suggest that wearing red increases your sexual attractiveness.

Secrets & Science of Light - Full Documentary
From X-rays to microwaves, from ultraviolet to infrared, we’ll explore the world of color, both seen and unseen. We recognize our world primarily through the sense of vision yet the light we use to see is only a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum that surrounds us and impacts on our lives. We’ll find out what color really is, how our color vision works and compare it to that of other creatures, some who see less color than us – and some who see more.
We’ll explore insects that can see into the ultraviolet, snakes that sense invisible infra-red radiation to hunt their prey, and birds whose color vision is far more sensitive than ours.
Following the multiple award-winning ‘Limits of Perception’ and ‘Time Limits’, this is the third and final part of the trilogy that explores beyond the limits of our everyday perceptions.
In a thrilling one hour, this journey through the whole spectrum explores strange worlds. It is a journey through a world we never dreamed existed.

Genghis Khan's Mongol Empire - Largest Empire in History - Full Documentary
Mongol leader Genghis Khan (1162-1227) rose from humble beginnings to establish the largest land empire in history. After uniting the nomadic tribes of the Mongolian plateau, he conquered huge chunks of central Asia and China. His descendants expanded the empire even further, advancing to such far-off places as Poland, Vietnam, Syria and Korea. At their peak, the Mongols controlled between 11 and 12 million contiguous square miles, an area about the size of Africa. Many people were wiped out in the course of Genghis Khan’s invasions, but he also granted religious freedom to his subjects, abolished abuses, encouraged trade and created the first international postal system. Genghis Khan died in 1227 during a military campaign against the Chinese kingdom of Xi Xia. His final resting place remains unknown.
Genghis Khan: The Early Years
Temujin, later Genghis Khan, was born around 1162 near the border between modern Mongolia and Siberia. Legend holds that he came into the world clutching a blood clot in his right hand. His mother had been kidnapped by his father and forced into marriage. At that time, dozens of nomadic tribes on the central Asian steppe were constantly fighting and stealing from each other, and life for Temujin was violent and unpredictable. Before he turned 10, his father was poisoned by an enemy clan. Temujin’s own clan then deserted him, his mother and his six siblings in order to avoid having to feed them.
Did you know? Mongol leader Genghis Khan never allowed anyone to paint his portrait, sculpt his image or engrave his likeness on a coin. The first images of him appeared after he was buried.
Shortly thereafter, Temujin killed his older half-brother and took over as head of the poverty-stricken household. At one point, he was captured and enslaved by the clan that had abandoned him, but he was eventually able to escape. In 1178 Temujin married Borte, with whom he would have four sons and an unknown number of daughters. He launched a daring rescue of Borte after she too was kidnapped, and he soon began making alliances, building a reputation as a warrior and attracting a growing number of followers. Most of what we know about Genghis Khan’s childhood comes from “The Secret History of the Mongols,” the oldest known work of Mongolian history and literature, which was written soon after his death.
Genghis Khan Unites the Mongols
Going against custom, Temujin put competent allies rather than relatives in key positions and executed the leaders of enemy tribes while incorporating the remaining members into his clan. He ordered that all looting wait until after a complete victory had been won, and he organized his warriors into units of 10 without regard to kin. Though Temujin was an animist, his followers included Christians, Muslims and Buddhists. By 1205 he had vanquished all rivals, including his former best friend Jamuka. The following year, he called a meeting of representatives from every part of the territory and established a nation similar in size to modern Mongolia. He was also proclaimed Chinggis Khan, which roughly translates to “Universal Ruler,” a name that became known in the West as Genghis Khan.

Understanding Comets - Key To Human Survival & Exploration - Full Documentary
Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the Sun. When frozen, they are the size of a small town. When a comet's orbit brings it close to the Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets. The dust and gases form a tail that stretches away from the Sun for millions of miles. There are likely billions of comets orbiting our Sun in the Kuiper Belt and even more distant Oort Cloud.
The current number of known comets is: 3,600
Unlike the other small bodies in the solar system, comets have been known since antiquity. There are Chinese records of Comet Halley going back to at least 240 BC. The famous Bayeux Tapestry, which commemorates the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, depicts an apparition of Comet Halley.
Comet History
As of 1995, 878 comets have been cataloged and their orbits at least roughly calculated. Of these 184 are periodic comets (orbital periods less than 200 years); some of the remainder are no doubt periodic as well, but their orbits have not been determined with sufficient accuracy to tell for sure.
How Humans Will Mine Asteroids and Comets
The idea of mining the planets, Moon, asteroids, and comets for their valuable mineral resources is not new. Science fiction writers began weaving tales of space mines, worked by crusty, usually antisocial old prospectors, in the 1930s. Invariably, these difficult, dirty, lonely operations in the far frontiers of the solar system resembled the mines in a more familiar frontier situation—the nineteenth-century American West. There were "decadent boom towns with grossly inflated prices," University of Arizona scientist John S. Lewis points out in his recent book about space mining. These stories also featured "boisterous miners in town for a few days to pick up supplies and go on a bender," along with "slick gamblers, painted women, and a variety of dubious establishments." 41
Not surprisingly, drunk miners, gamblers, and painted women were not part of the vision of the scientists who began discussing asteroid mining in the 1970s. The technological advances made during the U.S. space program had recently culminated in several successful manned Moon landings. And the experts became convinced that mining asteroids, and perhaps comets too, would actually be feasible in the near future.
Since that time, scientists working for both NASA and private companies have been doing detailed studies of space mining. The general consensus is that most of the technology needed to begin modest mining operations on an asteroid already exists. The main ingredient still missing is the commitment of a large amount of money by a government, corporation, or group of private investors. The experts all agree that it is only a matter of time before humans begin exploiting the tremendous wealth of resources waiting for them in the solar system.

Monster Pig - Prehistoric Predator 30 Million Years Ago - Full Documentary
The Hell Pig, or Entelodont, was one of the ugliest creatures ever to have lived. But this petrifying pig was an evolutionary success, surviving for nearly 20 million years in eat-or-be-eaten prehistoric North America. Yet for all its ferocity the Hell Pig finally met its match in the equally ferocious Bear Dog, as the two predators fought a battle against extinction. Long before humans evolved, our planet was home to some of the most powerful predators ever to have lived. With stunning animation Prehistoric Predators takes us back in time to bring these ancient hunters back to life.
Entelodont is a name given to any member of the extinct scientific family Entelodontidae. These large, primitive animals are also known as hell pigs. However, they are not related to modern pigs; rather, they are closer on the evolutionary tree to hippos and whales.
Entelodonts were among the earliest of the pig-like lineages, known from the early to middle Eocene (c. 50 million years ago), according to Kenneth T. Wilkins, associate dean for sciences at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.
Entelodontidae first appeared in Mongolia, then spread across Asia, Europe and North America. They eventually became extinct between 19 million and 16 million years ago, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
In North America, the hell pigs seemed to prefer floodplains as their home of choice. Woodlands where also preferred by hell pigs of many types.
Even small hell pigs were quite large. The smallest of the hell pigs grew to around 330 pounds (50 kilograms), while the largest grew to around about 2,000 lbs (900 kg).
One of the better-known entelodonts was Archaeotherium, which were common in western North America. These were large animals, several times the size of modern pigs, with the skull reaching near more than 3 feet (1 meter) long. "The dentition suggests they were effective bone-crushers. These surely were fierce, imposing animals . . . hence, the common name 'hell pig,'" said Wilkins.
Many hell pigs had heads that were massive when compared to their bodies. Another example is the Dinohyus. Its head was 35 to 45 percent of its total length, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
Though it would be easy to assume that such a fierce creature with large tusks and imposing body size were carnivorous predators, the hell pig's teeth say differently. More than likely, they were omnivores, eating plant life as well as meat.
The front teeth where large and pointed, perfect for ripping flesh from bone. The back teeth were flat, which is perfect for crushing plant material. Fruits, leaves and seeds, as well as other animals and eggs were probably all part of the hell pig's diet.
It may not have even been a killer. Some believe that hell pigs may have been scavengers, letting other animals make the kills. Once the prey was dead, the hell pig may have intimidated the predator and taken its prey, according to National Geographic.

Smart Solar Panels That Track The Sun - Smartflower
Smartflower – Green, solar energy without the hassle of installing panels onto your roof. Innovation and technology has come a long way. We have truly stepped into a new generation of modern amenities that not only make our lifestyles more lavish and comfortable, but more importantly, sustainable and eco-friendly.
Smartflower allows us to utilize this resource to the best of our abilities, soaking in all its power and energy so we can charge up our worlds and step into the new age of energy consumption. In this article, we will help you understand all the revolutionary benefits of this incredibly impressive invention.
Smart Use
Smartflower operates with an all-in-one system that begins its operation within one hour. You are not required to perform any complicated assembling, except firmly bolting down the system to the ground or a concrete foundation. It will provide maximum performance and remarkable energy with very little maintenance needs. Its electricity service is extremely reliable, throughout the day and night.
Smart Tracking
The solar modular fan is designed with an astronomical control system. This allows it to rotate vertically and horizontally to track the position of the sun, even on a cloudy day, allowing accurate alignment with the sun at an exact 90-degree angle. Even though it does not take up much space, the company claims it is still capable of providing 40% more energy output than a conventional rooftop system, throughout all the seasons in a year.
Smart Cleaning
You need not worry about any cleaning issues. When the panels fold up, integrated brushes sweep away sediment and debris.
Smart Cooling
Smartflower features rear-ventilated modules, which makes sure that hot air never accumulates within the construction and causes a decrease in the output. As compared to a conventional rooftop system, it is capable of being 10-20 degree cooler and providing nearly 10% higher energy output.
Smart Safety
Smartflower folds up at sunset or during bad weather
The sensors continuously monitor the speed of the wind, and when the wind is too high, the Smartflower adopts a secure folded position to minimize damages. In case of a further increase in wind speed, it assumes a secondary security position, and when the wind speed reduces, the sensor detect it and the device folds out to resume its electricity production.
Smart Mobility
Its impressive mobility is what truly makes it a smart system, so that every time you move out you can carry your private solar plant along without having to worry about costly disassembling. It is simple and convenient.

How To Destroy An Entire Battle Group
CGI Concept by DAHIR INSAAT - https://www.youtube.com/user/dahirsem/videos - Music: The Sh*t That Killed Bruce Lee by Dhruva Aliman - https://dhruvaaliman.bandcamp.com/album/the-wolf-and-the-river - http://www.dhruvaaliman.com/ - Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/5XiFCr9iBKE6Cupltgnlet ... Whether science fiction or a realistic technology, it's an interesting tactical weapon concept. Translated from Russian, Dahir's description: As promised, I show an attack with the destruction of an entire carrier group. Many will surely think, I’ve over-complicated everything. The fact is that the ships accompanying the aircraft carrier, and the aircraft carrier itself, are armed with automatic guns that fire at a crazy rate, all that you have time to shoot at them they will be able to shoot down on approach, not a single rocket will fly closer than a kilometer due to the astounding fire rate of 10.000 rounds per minute. Simply put, any frontal attack will be counterproductive; it will be comparable to dumping thousands of missiles into the sea. It is imperative that we collect them in one fist of a thousand intellectual missiles, at an altitude beyond the reach of guns (ten kilometers) and attack with at least two hundred missiles at once, and do so five times in a row without a pause. But the last hundred missiles can be planted in five points, or, twenty missiles for each point in order to completely pierce through an aircraft carrier.

The Sun is Not Really Yellow - Atmospheric Illusion
Look at most child drawings, and you'll see the sun depicted as a yellow ball. Even many adults associate the color yellow with the star found at the center of the solar system. But the Sun isn't actually yellow; it's just an illusion caused by the Earth's atmosphere. The powerful processes happening inside the Sun are so robust that it emits every color of light imaginable. Together, these colors form a pure white light, which is precisely what you'd see from space.
On Earth, however, the atmosphere filters much of the 'cool' light spectrum, leaving the 'warmer' colors visible to us instead. The filtered blue light refracts from atmospheric molecules, causing the blue appearance of our sky.
During times of sunrise and sunset, the colors of the Sun appear warmer than usual; this means orange or red instead of yellow. This is because of the angle of the Sunlight and the fact that it needs to pass through more atmospheric molecules to reach you.

How Our Sun Will Die - Full Documentary
The sun gives energy to life on Earth, and without this star, we wouldn't be here. But like most things in space, even stars have limited lifetimes, and someday our sun will die. You don't need to worry about this solar death anytime soon, though. Inside the sun, a churning fusion engine fuels the star, and it still has a lot of fuel left — about 5 billion years' worth. Stars like our sun form when a huge cloud of gas (mostly hydrogen and helium) grows so large that it collapses under its own weight. The pressure is so high in the center of that collapsing mass of gas that the heat reaches unimaginable levels, with temperatures so hot that hydrogen atoms lose their electrons. Those naked hydrogen atoms then fuse together into helium atoms, and that reaction releases enough energy to counter the intense pressure of gravity collapsing the cloud of gas. The battle between gravity and the energy from fusion reactions fuels our sun and billions of other stars in our galaxy and beyond.
What will happen when the sun dies?
But in about 5 billion years, the sun will run out of hydrogen. Our star is currently in the most stable phase of its life cycle and has been since the birth of our solar system, about 4.5 billion years ago. Once all the hydrogen gets used up, the sun will grow out of this stable phase. With no hydrogen left to fuse in the core, a shell of fusion hydrogen will form around the helium-filled core, astrophysicist Jillian Scudder wrote in an article for The Conversation. Gravitational forces will take over, compressing the core and allowing the rest of the sun to expand. Our star will grow to be larger than we can imagine — so large that it'll envelope the inner planets, including Earth. That's when the sun will become a red giant.
For about a billion years, the sun will burn as a red giant. Then, the hydrogen in that outer core will deplete, leaving an abundance of helium. That element will then fuse into heavier elements, like oxygen and carbon, in reactions that don't emit as much energy. Once all the helium disappears, the forces of gravity will take over, and the sun will shrink into a white dwarf. All the outer material will dissipate, leaving behind a planetary nebula.
"When a star dies, it ejects a mass of gas and dust — known as its envelope — into space. The envelope can be as much as half the star's mass. This reveals the star's core, which by this point in the star's life is running out of fuel, eventually turning off and before finally dying," said astronomer Albert Zijlstra, of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, in a statement.
Astronomers estimate that the sun has about 7 billion to 8 billion years left before it sputters out and dies. Humanity may be long gone by then, or perhaps we'll have already colonized another planet.

How Rubber Bands Are Made - Intensive Process
Rubber bands are still made from organic rubber because it offers superior elasticity. Natural rubber comes from latex, a milky fluid composed primarily of water with a smaller amount of rubber and trace amounts of resin, protein, sugar, and mineral matter. Most non-synthetic industrial latex derives from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), but various equatorial trees, shrubs, and vines also produce the substance.
Within the rubber tree, latex is found between the external bark and the Cambium layer, through which the tree's sap flows. Distinct from the sap, latex serves as a protective agent, seeping out of and sealing over wounds in the tree's bark. After being extruded, the rubber tubes are forced over aluminum poles called mandrels and cured in large ovens. Finally, the tubes are removed from the mandrels and fed into a cutting machine that slices them into finished rubber bands.
The Manufacturing
Process
Processing the natural latex
1 The initial stage of manufacturing the harvested latex usually takes place on the rubber plantation, prior to packing and shipping. The first step in processing the latex is purification, which entails straining it to remove the other constituent elements apart from rubber and to filter out impurities such as tree sap and debris.
2 The purified rubber is now collected in large vats. Combined with acetic or formic acid, the rubber particles cling together to form slabs.
3 Next, the slabs are squeezed between rollers to remove excess water and pressed into bales or blocks, usually 2 or 3 square feet (.6 or .9 square meter), ready for shipping to factories. The size of the blocks depends on what the individual plantation can accommodate.
Mixing and milling
4 The rubber is then shipped to a rubber factory. Here, the slabs are machine cut (or chopped) into small pieces. Next, many manufacturers use a Banbury Mixer, invented in 1916 by Femely H. Banbury. This machine mixes the rubber with other ingredients—sulfur to vulcanize it, pigments to color it, and other chemicals to increase or diminish the elasticity of the resulting rubber bands. Although some companies don't add these ingredients until the next stage (milling), the Banbury machine integrates them more thoroughly, producing a more uniform product.
5 Milling, the next phase of production, entails heating the rubber (a blended mass if it has been mixed, discrete pieces if it has not) and squeezing it flat in a milling machine.
Extrusion
6 After the heated, flattened rubber leaves the milling machine, it is cut into strips. Still hot from the milling, the strips are then fed into an extruding machine which forces the rubber out in long, hollow tubes (much as a meat grinder produces long strings of meat). Excess rubber regularly builds up around the head of each extruding machine, and this rubber is cut off, collected, and placed back with the rubber going into the milling machine.
Curing
7 The tubes of rubber are then forced over aluminum poles called mandrels, which have been covered with talcum powder to keep the rubber from sticking. Although the rubber has already been vulcanized, it's rather brittle at this point, and needs to be "cured" before it is elastic and usable. To accomplish this, the poles are loaded onto racks that are steamed and heated in large machines.
8 Removed from the poles and washed to remove the talcum powder, the tubes of rubber are fed into another machine that slices them into finished rubber bands. Rubber bands are sold by weight, and, because they tend to clump together, only small quantities can be weighed accurately by machines. Generally, any package over 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms) can be loaded by machine but will still require manual weighing and adjusting.
Quality Control
Sample rubber bands from each batch are subjected to a variety of quality tests. One such test measures modulus, or how hard a band snaps back: a tight band should snap back forcefully when pulled, while a band made to secure fragile objects should snap back more gently. Another test, for elongation, determines how far a band will stretch, which depends upon the percentage of rubber in a band: the more rubber, the further it should stretch. A third trait commonly tested is break strength, or whether a rubber band is strong enough to withstand normal strain. If 90 percent of the sample bands in a batch pass a particular test, the batch moves on to the next test; if 90 percent pass all of the tests, the batch is considered market-ready.

History of the Medieval Knight - Full Documentary
Knights were the most-feared and best-protected warriors on the medieval battlefield, while off it, they were among the most fashionably dressed and best-mannered members of society. To reach this elevated status, however, became more and more challenging as the Middle Ages wore on. Requirements included an aristocratic birth, training from childhood, money for weapons, horses and squires, and a knowledge of the rules of chivalry. Good looks, fine clothes, a striking coat of arms, and an ability to recite poetry and songs were optional but highly desirable extras if one wanted to rise to the very top of this elite level of medieval society.
There were three main types of soldiers during the Middle Ages: foot soldiers, archers, and knights. The knights were heavily armored soldiers who rode on horseback. Only the wealthiest nobles could afford to be a knight. They needed very expensive armor, weapons, and a powerful war horse.
The First Knights
The first knights of the Middle Ages fought for Charlemagne, the King of the Franks, in the 700s. In order to fight battles across his large empire, Charlemagne began to use soldiers on horseback. These soldiers became a very important part of his army.
Charlemagne began to award his best knights with land called "benefices". In return for the land, the knights agreed to fight for the king whenever he called. This practice caught on through much of Europe and became standard practice for many kings for the next 700 years. If you were a son born into the family of a knight, you generally became a knight as well.
Orders of Knights
Some knights decided to pledge themselves to defending the Christian faith. They formed orders that fought in the Crusades. These orders were called military orders. Here are three of the most famous military orders:
The Knights Templar - The Knights Templar were established in the 1100s. They wore white mantles with red crosses and were famous fighters during the Crusades. Their headquarters was in the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The knights refused to retreat in battle and were often the first to lead the charge. In the Battle of Montgisard, 500 Knights of the Templar led a small force of just a few thousand men in victory over 26,000 Muslim soldiers.
The Knights Hospitaller - The Knights Hospitaller were founded in 1023. They were formed to protect poor and sick pilgrims in the Holy Land. During the Crusades they defended the Holy Land from the Muslims. These knights wore black clothing with a white cross. After the fall of Jerusalem they moved to the island of Rhodes and to Malta.
The Teutonic Knights - The Teutonic Knights were German knights that were once part of the Hospitallers. They wore black clothing with a white cross on the shoulder. After fighting in the Crusades, the Teutonic Knights began a conquest of Prussia. They became very powerful until they were defeated in 1410 by the Polish at the Battle of Tannenberg.
There were also orders of chivalry. These orders were meant to imitate the military orders, but were formed after the Crusades. One of the most famous of these orders is the Order of the Garter. It was founded by King Edward III of England in 1348 and is considered one of the highest orders of knighthood in the United Kingdom.
End of the Knight
By the end of the Middle Ages, the knight was no longer an important part of the army. This was for two main reasons. One reason was that many countries had formed their own standing armies. They paid soldiers to train and fight. They no longer needed lords to come fight as knights. The other reason was a change in warfare. Battle tactics and new weapons such as longbows and firearms made the heavy armor the knights wore cumbersome and useless. This made it much easier to arm a soldier and pay for a standing army.
Interesting Facts about Knights from the Middle Ages
Knights often fought for the rights to pillage. They could become quite rich with the loot they gained from ransacking a city or town.
By the end of the Middle Ages, many knights paid the king money instead of fighting. Then the king would use that money to pay soldiers to fight. This payment was called shield money.
The word "knight" comes from an Old English word meaning "servant".
The knights of religious orders often made a pledge to God of poverty and chastity.
Today, knighthoods are awarded by kings and queens to people for their achievements. It is considered an honor. Famous people who have been knighted in recent years include U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Singer Paul McCartney of the Beatles, and movie director Alfred Hitchcock.

Legend of the Minotaur - Greek Mythology - Full Documentary
Minotaur, Greek Minotauros (“Minos’s Bull”), in Greek mythology, a fabulous monster of Crete that had the body of a man and the head of a bull. It was the offspring of Pasiphae, the wife of Minos, and a snow-white bull sent to Minos by the god Poseidon for sacrifice. Minos, instead of sacrificing it, kept it alive; Poseidon as a punishment made Pasiphae fall in love with it. Her child by the bull was shut up in the Labyrinth created for Minos by Daedalus. A son of Minos, Androgeos, was later killed by the Athenians; to avenge his death, Minos demanded that seven Athenian youths and seven maidens should be sent every ninth year (or, according to another version, every year) to be devoured by the Minotaur. When the third time of sacrifice came, the Athenian hero Theseus volunteered to go, and, with the help of Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae, he killed the monster and ended the tribute. Theseus escaped with Ariadne.

Rome's Craziest Emperor ~ Caligula - Full Documentary
Gaius Caesar, known as Caligula, succeeded Tiberius and served as Roman emperor from 37 to 41 A.D. Gaius Caesar, nicknamed Caligula or "Little Boot," was born on August 31, in 12 A.D. He succeeded Tiberius as Roman emperor in 37 A.D., and adopted the name Gaius Caesar Germanicus. Records depict him as a cruel and unpredictable leader. He restored treason trials and put people to death. Cassius Chaerea murdered him in 41 A.D. at the Palatine Games. Gaius Caesar Germanicus was born on August 31, in the year 12 in Antium (now Anzio), Italy. The third of six living children born to Germanicus and Agrippina the Elder, Gaius hailed from Rome's most distinguished family, the Julio Claudiens. His great-great-grandfather was Julius Caesar and his great-grandfather was Augustus, while his father, Germanicus, was a beloved leader in his own right. Later, Gaius's rule a Roman emperor would be shaped by lunacy and lust.
Gaius was close to his father and, at the age of 3, began frequently accompanying Germanicus on his military campaigns. In keeping with tradition, Gaius wore a uniform with a small pair of boots, earning him the nickname of "Caligula," the Latin word for "little boots." The name stuck with him for the rest of his life.
At the time of Gaius's birth, the rule of Augustus was coming to an end. Augustus's health was failing and, in need of naming a successor, he appointed his stepson Tiberius, a brooding, unpopular leader, to his former position. His choice, however, came with one caveat: Knowing that the public would not be pleased by his decision, he compelled Tiberius to adopt Germanicus as his son, and name him his heir.
On August 19, in the year 14 A.D., Augustus died. Tiberius quickly assumed power and, just as quickly, dispatched Germanicus to Rome's eastern provinces for a diplomatic mission. There, he fell ill and soon died, which invited theories to swell up that linked Tiberius to his political rival's death.
Agrippina the Elder fanned the flames. She publicly blamed Tiberius for her husband's death and craved revenge. Tiberius struck back. He imprisoned Agrippina the Elder on a remote island, where she starved to death. The emperor then imprisoned her two older sons, one of whom killed himself; the other starved to death.
Because of his young age, Caligula was spared and forced to live with his great-grandmother, Livia, Augustus's wife. It was during this time that Caligula, who was a teenager at the time, is believed to have mated with his sister, Drusilla.
In the year 31, Caligula was summoned by Tiberius to the island of Capri, where he was adopted by the man presumed to be his father's killer and treated like a pampered prisoner. Forced to suppress his anger and show Tiberius respect, despite his hatred for him, Caligula was likely mentally traumatized by the situation, according to many historians. Instead, Caligula took his emotions out on others. He delighted in watching pain inflicted on his subjects, and spent his nights in orgies of gluttony and passion. Even the unstable Tiberius could see that Caligula was unhinged. "I am nursing a viper for the Roman people," he said.
In March of 37 A.D., Tiberius fell ill. He died a month later, and rumors swirled that Caligula had smothered him. It didn't matter. Romans were ecstatic over his death, in part because the empire now fell into the hands of Caligula, whom citizens believed packed the same qualities as his esteemed late father. The Roman Senate fell right in line, naming 24-year-old Caligula, who had no experience in government, diplomacy or war, as sole emperor of Rome.
For a time, Caligula's efforts met with their enthusiasm. He freed citizens that had been unjustly imprisoned by Tiberius, and eliminated an unpopular tax. He also staged lavish events, including chariot races, boxing matches, plays and gladiator shows. However, six months into his rule, Caligula fell severely ill. For nearly a month, he hovered between life and death. In October of 37 A.D., he recovered, but it was quickly apparent that he was not the same person.
Plagued by headaches, Caligula wandered the palace at night. He abandoned the customary toga for silken gowns and often dressed as a woman. In addition, Caligula flaunted his power, eliminating his political rivals and forcing parents to watch the deaths of their sons. Most egregious, however, was Caligula's declaration that he was a living God, ordering a bridge to be built between his palace and the Temple of Jupiter so that he could have consultations with the deity. Not even marriage and the birth of a daughter seemed to change him.
Rome soon grew to hate its leader, and citizens began a secret push to get rid of him. On January 24, 41 A.D., Caligula was attacked by a group of guardsman, following a sporting event. During the attack, Caligula was struck 30 times by blades. His body was dumped into a shallow grave, and his wife and daughter were put to death.
