I dive a little deeper, studying car culture from post WWII soldiers and sailors, birthing the Hot Rod movement, outlaw bikers, how the attitude was born that persists today. During editing of this episode, I discovered something that made my SKIN CRAWL about Stellantis. Stellantis openly brags about their partnership with Foxconn, despite the conditions for workers there, child labor, abuse, violence. This cannot be left ignored. What started as a video about Malaise, and how we are experiencing the same thing that occurred in 1971, with cars being over regulated by overbearing governments, in the US and internationally, turned into something more serious. We do have the power to change cource. We are that powerful as a group, the gearheads and car nuts. Dodge announced a new Special Edition car for the 2023 model year. It’s the 2023 Blacktop Special Edition for the SXT, GT and R/T trims, for Charger and Challenger. The Blacktop Special Edition Package adds upon the regular Blacktop Package (Code ADX), coming with 20 inch by 8 black satin rims, satin black rear decklid spoiler, grill and logos and script and two piece Rhombi center caps. The Blacktop Special Edition Package (Code AGC) adds front and rear Splash Guards, black exhaust tips and REAL Carbon Fiber Interior Accents (Code XSQ), for an added cost of $400 (the regular Blacktop is required). Interior is limited to Houndstooth or if the Plus Package is selected in black interior only. Some bad news for interiors though, as DC Dealer Connect no longer shows any options for Demonic Red Alcantara interior, nor the Sepia Alcantara interior. Normally allocated options that exceed a dealership’s limit will appear in red, but the color interiors do not appear at all. I can’t say if the options hold true for the Hellcats (possible only Jailbreaks may have these options) The V6 (and the R/T) are not cars anyone should be ashamed about. They are well priced, cheaper than many regular cars, have style, comfort, are easy to maintain. Will Dodge Charger and Challenger values go up? From Hemi R/T to Scat Pack, Wide Body, Narrow Body, to the Hellcat, be it a Redeye, Jailbreak, Last Call, Special Editions. How do some cars go up in value? Insurance policies have a huge influence on the valuation and price of collector cars. Hagerty offers some great tools to make informed decisions on a car, interest shown in it, policies signed, and overall value. It, along with other insurers can often dictate how prices grow. One confusing aspect of Hagerty is why they are promoting aspects against Car Culture, with columnists like Aaron Robinson, a typical “I got mine” type of person, highly partisan in most of this writings. He actively pushes AGAINST classic and collector cars, as if trying to lead Hagerty out of business. He sings the praise of California’s recent ban on gasoline vehicle sales, with no thought to consequences, effects, particularly on poor communities. Electric vehicles are having serious issues in China, the leading EV market in the world. However, a good columnist is Colin Comer that writes Hagerty’s valuation articles, tracking interest in new insurance policies for collector cars. He is upfront, and while making mistakes sometimes, he will showcase what cars go against his predictions. Ultimately, he is a numbers guy and a car guy. This leads to my concern of how a new collector car’s value for insurance will include not just MSRP, but also ADM (mark-up) as well as financing costs over the life of the loan. This naturally increases the valuation of the car. Add to this a huge number of cars, such as the Dodge SRTs being insured, this will have an affect of prices. Valuation is tracked by the interest shown, in quotes, policies, changes, etc, showcased by the example in the latest Hagerty magazine, how the Ford Excursion and Toyota Land Cruiser have increased in value in the last year. While most makes and models will have sub models, trim models that may be more desirable, thus more expensive, Dodge with the huge number of trims, special editions will lead to confusion with insurers. This will lead to an increase in value, especially as demand remains high for the Hemi powered cars. Add to this some limitations of the software used by insurers, no doubt this will lead to confusion, which may end up erring on the side of caution, i.e. a higher Agreed Value for the policy. Hopefully you guys can find your dream Dodge, and while it may be too late for an allocation, there will be 2023 cars on dealership lots. Don’t give up! Stay strong, just like our growing community! #SaveTheManuals Is this the WORST Challenger to get? Its missing the Wide Body, it has narrow pizza slicer wheels, it doesn’t have the red interior, no Shaker package. So why did I get this car off the lot? Why? Because this is the BEST manual transmission car I ever drove, the 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Scat Pack 392 Hemi. With MTX (stick shift) transmissions being in short supply from Tremec, ordering one of these for 2023 is a big risk. Finding them on the lot is even harder, so when I came across this beauty is Pitch Black, with red calipers, I knew I had to get it. The low price helped as well (cheaper than a 5.7L Hemi R/T on the lot, granted that has a shaker hood), a very good warranty, 10yrs 100,000 miles full bumper to bumper (ideal for a driving car) all pale compared to the joy of the manual transmission. Bill from @CuriousCars (or is it @Curious_Cars) first got me DESPERATE to get in on the New Era of Muscle from Dodge, with this funny review of a white Wide Body Challenger (which is what pushed me to go Super Stock). After that, it was a rabbit hole of packaged and options, sights, sounds, and the Apache naturally aspirated 6.4L Hemi (392 cubic inch) delivers a punch. The Challenger is both smooth and tame in normal driving, but is a beast when driving aggressively, slamming the throttle down throws the tail out, but in such a big heavy car, it never feels beyond your control. The mechanical heavy shifter reminds you this is a machine, one you don’t have to be dainty around. It can handle it. Can you? As Im writing this, I cant help but chuckle, and I may just go for a nice night drive, and find some background to let the Challenger roar. You really should consider the manual transmission Challenger. It feels better than the Camaro, although honestly, they are all great. Dodge displays the 2023 Last Call edition Challengers and Chargers signaling the end platform, as well as the Direct Connection crate engines available to order. Big issues appear as the cars are not what we have been told, not what was released so far, for already cars marked up so much. The Dodge Challenger Shakedown Wide Body will no longer have a manual transmission (MTX) instead being fitted with the TorqueFlight Automatic (ATX). Allocations for manuals are very hard to come by, giving credence to rumors of a Tremec supply chain problem. Dodge Charger and Challenger Swinger editions don’t seem to have the wood grain trim on the instrument cluster and center console bezels as show in the presentation photos. The Black Ghost, while the side Challenger script does look very nice, the nose script feels like some Autozone bought letters glued on haphazardly. It just doesn’t look good. The King Daytona feels like a parts bin edition, where they didn’t even bother to give it special seats. It uses the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona seats, without actually saying “King Daytona”. The convertible is probably the biggest disappointment, and has to be called out. The fitment of the trunk and roof assembly can be attributed to it being a prototype, rushed to meet deadlines for SEMA, but the third brake light looks if not actually being a cheap trailer brake light. It’s tacked on to the spoiler (above the backup camera) and doesn’t even face rear-ward. Its pointing down since its mounted flat to the underside of the spoiler. That is unacceptable for a package that costs just dollars under 30k. A dedicated part if not spoiler should be added. Even if such a spoiler is slated for production units, it would have been better to not even mount the third brake light, and just use the stock stoiler. One other aspect is the overall concern and care the booth seemed to show regarding their products. The engine displays were nice (pricey, nothing is cheap) but the 345 supercharged crate engine does have fuel injectors installed and has broken ignition coil packs broken. What is the BEST 2023 Dodge Challenger to order? It may not be the special Last Call cars, but rather a much more rare combination of options to set it apart. If you are buying your dream car, or hope to see appreciation on one of these cars, these are my predictions as to what will be the coolest, rarest orders you can place. Super Stock, Jailbreaks are done, not helped by the fact that nearly half of these allocations are going to the Last Call editions. If you are lucky and can get a Jailbreak Challenger, you might consider the convertible from Florida Drop Top offered through Dodge during the building process. Scat Packs have options not available on the Hellcats, such as the Shaker package, stick shift i.e. manual transmission (MTX) and can be ordered with bright color interiors. I will go over my picks for the most sought after Scat Pack optioned cars for the 2023 Last Call year. This applies to the Wide Body Challengers. For the Narrow Body Challenger, the best pick is without a doubt the 1320 package, be in solo seat, or with the $1 cloth passenger seat option, or an additional $1 option for the rear cloth seat. The 1320 Plus package includes all typical seating for a Challenger, but in leather and alcantara, as well as other features like heated steering wheels, seats etc. The 1320 may end up being the rarest of ALL of the 2023 Last Call Challengers. If you go ahead and place a deposit for a 2023 car (MY23) BEWARE of a scummy practice by some dealerships. They will deliberately make a mistake on your order, to get the customer to walk away from the order, leaving them with the car on the lot, and open to huge markups. I would say get the car even if it is not perfect, since you should still get a great car, just ordered a bit different. Order banks are open for the 2023 Dodge Charger and Challengers, from SXT, GT, R/T to the Hellcats, Super Stocks and Jailbreaks. But, orders are mostly sold out. Big dealers got all of the allocations. Special editions are also given to the top 500 dealerships. Bad news, DealerConnect, the site where orders are placed has errors in it. Options invalidate other options, like the Demonic Red interior option if ends up showing NO OTHER OPTIONS. Cloth seats, nothing else. This will lead to a lot of orders not meeting the deadline. Last Call allocations are out. The top 500 dealerships will all be getting the Challenger Shakedown (392 Hemi Scat Pack), in Wide Body trim (which will be a manual transmission) and Narrow Body (Automatic). They will get one of each. The same 500 dealerships will also get one of each Charger Scat Pack Super Bee editions, one Wide Body, one Narrow Body, both with 1320 transmissions, suspension and drag radials. One is Plum Crazy, one B5 Blue. The same 500 dealerships will all get at least one of each Swinger package, in Challenger and Charger body styles. The top 200 dealers will get six Swingers, 3 as Chargers, 3 as Challengers, in F8 Green with Sub-Lime stripe, Sub-Lime with black stripe (manual cars) and Smoke Show with Sub-Lime stripe. Dealerships from 201-300 will not get the manual cars, so only the Smoke Show and F8 Green cars, one each Charger and Challenger, totalling 4 cars. Dealerships from 301-500 will get just one each Charger or Challenger in F8 green. Markups will be an issue, as will dealerships that stash away these cars. The Hellcat cars will be issues to the top 300 dealerships, each getting a Black Ghost Challenger Hellcat Redeye (Jailbreak, with 807HP) and a King Daytona Charger Hellcat Redeye (Jailbreak with 807HP) Prices are up by 3k on average for trim levels, but good news is that options are down. Of course, it is possible that the system is still glitching and final pricing shown is not correct. Fix this Dodge! Overall this might mean prices for MSRP will be lower, but of course ADM (markup) is already insanely high. Still, orders are mostly placed by the time this video publishes. The interesting news is that on Dodge’s Dealer Connect site, in the drop downs for allocations for 2023 models, the Dodge Viper is displayed! This might simply be an error but it would also hint at the return of the Viper, in it’s base trim, GTS trim and ACR trim. This might be a last minute decision to compensate for the lack of a seventh SEMA car that never materialized, or simply Dodge trying to maintain some performance credibility with the introduction of a next generation Viper. Unless its electric, in which case, they’re done. That would sully the name and reputation of what a Dodge Viper is. I explain why I suspect that a Viper is coming. I explain why auto manufacturers are going for EVs, and raise serious questions as to economic viability. This is BIG. First, I cover serialized components, the kind that are linked to a specific VIN and will not work on another car. This causes serious issues when a specific model is older and out of production. How difficult, or even possible, will it be to use salvage parts? Do you own the car if you can’t even swap out a few parts to keep it rolling? This is one of the big points Louis Rossmann champions in the Right2Repair movement. Plastics can be cheap or pleasant to the touch. Carbon fiber is now more common, and leather usage is at an all time high, but modern plastics never felt worse. Gone are the days when materials like Bakelite were used. Wheels also lost their timeless appeal. Modern wheels have weird swirls and angles that just don’t age well compared to the simple spoked design, or turbine design, or even wheel-cover esthetics. I do go on a bit of a rant with nose height on modern cars. They seem to be higher and higher, even on sports cars and muscle cars. Where are the wedge designs, the low slung noses of not that long ago? Pedals as well lack any detail, unless in older style cars, and even that as just options. Chrome trim, knurls, dots, striations in durable rubbers that can last decades. Also related to pedals is the 2-pedal vs 3-pedal debate…now unified versus the one pedal driving thing. I have no words, but still win this argument LOL. Marker lights, buzzers and chimes also have gone the cheap route, losing personality or appeal. The big talking point of the video is the EV push. One would normally start such a debate from environmental concerns, but evidence will be seen too far in the future. Instead, I discuss the economics of it, and the connections to industries based in China, and the strategies behind US automakers decisions for electrification. Without subsidies and heavy government push, EVs may not fair so well with consumers, much less the enthusiast. China boasts high production of EVs, and US automakers are caught in the middle, and have little choice but to try, in their minds, to sell this on the US market. But the big question is, who is behind this financially? Who is invested in what technology? SEC has rules for insider trading, but politicians don’t have any such oversight, any such bodies to ensure conflicts of interest don’t occur. When asked, they deflect. When accused, they retaliate. Dodge suspends production for three weeks at Brampton due to the Tribar pollution scandal. Tribar is accused of ignoring 460 alarms indicating toxic waste released in the Huron river. Dodge also cancelled the 7th special edition car at SEMA. While some suspect its related to Tribar, it is more likely that the car is the same 6.2L Hemi but one of the Direct Connection Stage Kits. This is the easiest for them to build and certify, even though California is still blocking the release. GM is in damage control mode as a viral video shows the brand new GMC Hummer EV with a charge time of over 4 days on regular 120V, and over 24 hours on a fast charger. This is what happens when you have planned economies and people no longer have a free market with fiscal consent. Free market allows for evolution, advances and progress to be made where manufacturers make money and consumers get the cars they actually want. Texas also flexes on muscle car owners, by seizing a Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye, modified at over 1080HP and plans on using it for patrol. Besides the Civil Asset Forfeiture arguments, Texas State Troopers are neither familiar with operating the car, or maintaining a customized vehicle. I did it again! I tell the story, with video, of the dealership experience buying a brand new 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Wide Body Super Stock, or just Super Stock for short. It is one of the last ones remaining on dealership lots, and the last one in my area. Made in low numbers in 2020, 2021 and its final year 2022, the Super Stock is a Dodge Demon tribute car. It has the same power-plant, with nominal 807HP (its really the same as the Demon 808HP, but it respects the Demon being at the top). That’s not to say this car is slow or any less fun. It is an amazing machine, with one mission, one quarter mile at a time. It can keep doing them over and over…But that if for another video. This episode shows the struggle of an average guy, trying to buy a Super Stock. Few of these Mopar beasts remain on dealership lots, most having tremendous mark-ups. Most cars are used, advertised as new. Other cars show up in inventory but are already sold cars. Banks will not finance the mark-up portion of the price, and I, like most of you don’t have that kind of cash laying around. We all know prices will go up after Dodge discontinues V8 production, so its now or never, and I got so lucky, in finding this car without mark-up, finding this car with all the options I wanted, finding this car near enough, and having the support from my mother, a true Shop Mom! I am grateful for her help and support, and in helping me get back on my feet after my accident. I want to wish all of you luck in finding one of these dream muscle cars. Smoking HOT Dodge Charger Scat Pack 392 Hemi…with a Widebody! This is more of a now or never deal, where the car was delivered to the dealership but was never picked up. It wasn’t showing up in Dodge’s inventory listing, so I was lucky. It’s a 2022 fresh off the assembly line, and while the 2023s are coming, it made sense to get this car. It is such a gorgeous color combination and fully loaded with every package (barring the ones that are either or type packages). Its Pitch Black outside and Ruby Red Alcantara/Nappa Leather interior. Its such a contrast and such a good place to sit while you rev this beast. Power is the biggest current Mopar engine, the 6.4 naturally aspirated V8, that spin the giant 305 tires! Despite those huge tires, they still love burning rubber. I will show you some cool features and a few tips. Before riding these cars hard, make sure to finish your break-in period. Although with prices skyrocketing for more or less any Hemi, I can’t blame anyone for babying them. So if you are in the market for a 2022 or 2023 Dodge Challenger or Charger, watch this because while nobody can list ALL aspects to such a decision, I’m sure I will bring up at least one point or angle that you may not have considered.
