Official UK Sound System Heritage Mackabee Studio Intl Sound System
Official UK Sound System Heritage Mackabee Studio Intl Sound System
Mackabee Studio Intl from the city of Coventry, in the heart of the UK, over 35 years ago, Mackabee Studio International was formed.
A group of friends from various secondary schools with a passion for roots and culture, rub a dub vinyl and dub plate specials came together.
On the birthday of Haile Selassie, Mackabee Studio International made its first outing as a sound system on July 23rd, 1981 with a box van loaded with equipment: 16 Bass Speakers; Mid-Range and Tweeter Boxes and Transistor Amplifiers.
The statistics speak for them themselves. Having played in nearly every city or town in England and clashed against numerous prolific sound systems.
Mackabee is rightfully listed and recognised on the official Sound System map of England. It is also one of the few sounds in the UK to have played out at dances, consistently across 4 decades.

Lloyd Coxsone - Highlights ICON Sound Systems [Black History Month 2023]
Lloyd Coxsone - Highlights ICON Sound Systems [Black History Month 2023]
Lloyd Coxsone is an influential figure in the growth of the UK reggae scene, Lloyd Coxsone left his home in Morant Bay, Jamaica, and arrived in the UK in 1962, settling in south-west London and setting up his first sound system, Lloyd The Matador. This venture floundered due to inexperience and Coxsone joined the UK-based Duke Reid sound, but he eventually left in 1969, taking some of that operation’s personnel with him. He went on to form his own sound system, adopting the name of the biggest sound in Jamaica at the time, and also, pointedly, the main rival to Jamaica’s Duke Reid, Sir Coxsone. Coxsone sound soon gained a strong following that eventually led to his residency at the famous London nightclub the Roaring Twenties, in Carnaby Street. Throughout the 70s Sir Coxsone Sound’s success lay with maintaining the sound to rigorous standards, playing the most exclusive dub plates direct from Jamaica, and keeping abreast of trends within the music. Rather than specializing in one particular style, Coxsone Sound offered music for all tastes.
Coxsone, like other sound men, also expanded into the record business, licensing music from Jamaica at first, then trying his hand at his own productions using local UK artists. In 1975 he enjoyed huge success, and kickstarted the UK lovers rock phenomenon in the process, with his production of ‘Caught You In A Lie’ - originally a US soul hit by Robert Parker - featuring the vocal talents of 14-year-old south London schoolgirl Louisa Mark. That same year he issued one of the best dub albums of the era, King Of The Dub Rock, which featured dubwise versions of his own productions and those of Gussie Clarke, mixed in part at King Tubby’s. Other notable records appeared on his Tribesman and Lloyd Coxsone Outernational labels and elsewhere during the late 70s and early 80s, including Fabian’s Jack Ruby -produced ‘Prophecy’, ‘Love And Only Love’ and ‘Voice Of The Poor’ by Fred Locks. Others included ‘Stormy Night’ and ‘Homeward Bound’ by the Creation Steppers, a version of the Commodores’ ‘Easy’ by Jimmy Lindsay (many of which are available on 12 The Hard Way) and many more. During the mid-80s Coxsone handed control of his sound over to the younger elements in his team, notably Blacker Dread, and a new breed of DJs. Blacker released his own productions by the likes of Fred Locks, Frankie Paul, Mikey General, Sugar Minott, Michael Palmer, Don Carlos, Earl Sixteen and Coxsone DJ, Jah Screechy. Recently, as interest in the roots music of the 70s has increased, Coxsone has emerged from his semi-retirement to stand again at the controls of his sound.

Official Notting Hill Carnival King Tubby's Sound System Highlights Live 2023
Official Notting Hill Carnival King Tubby's Sound System Highlights Live 2023
Cecil Rennie AKA King Tubby’s, was born in the parish of St Thomas,, Jamaica.
He came to England as a teenager in 1965. His love of music wasn’t left behind in Jamaica; it developed in England to become a lifelong passion.
Cecil started his quest to be a leading soundman by serving his apprenticeship as a dedicated follower/selector of Duke Reid Sound System, This association lasted until 1969.
In March 1970 King Tubby’s hi-fi was born making Cecil at the age of 19, one of the youngest sound system owners in the UK.
The name was styled after the legendary Dub Master from Jamaica, Osbourne Ruddock AKA King Tubby’s who Cecil saw as his inspiration and mentor in Reggae Music. This friendship and close working relationship remained right up to the day of Osbourne’s untimely death in 1989. King Tubby’s hi-fi became King Tubby’s Sound System and went from strength to strength.
In 1973 introducing dubplate specials on sound systems, King Tubby’s led the way.
The Sound’s reputation grew and from playing locally in the Brixton area, soon there was not a venue in the UK King Tubby’s had not played at. King Tubby’s caught the imagination of reggae music lovers everywhere and the dances were always packed.
King Tubby’s Sound System has been hailed as one of the if not the most consistent sounds over the last four decades. The consistency and success is down to how the sound is run. Everybody in the sound is considered equal and everybody’s role is important.
The years of hard grafting in London, England and Europe have paid off as Cecil, aka King Tubby's took home the crown of No.1 London sound system in 2003.

Official Boomtown Festival Beenie Man Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Beenie Man Live 2023
One of Jamaica's biggest exports, Beenie Man's recording career stretches back to 1981, although it was in the sound systems where he later made his mark. The witty toaster began his true ascent to stardom in the early '90s, and by 1994, his reputation couldn't be beaten. Beenie Man was born Moses Davis in the tough Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica, on August 22, 1973. By the time he was ready for school, the toddler had already decided on a career as a DJ. He wasn't the first tot with dreams of the limelight, but Beenie actually had a true gift for gab. His shot at stardom came when he was only eight when he took first prize at the national Teeny Talent contest. This led to a meeting with producer Junjo Lawes, who recorded the diminutive DJ's debut single, "Too Fancy." Bunny Lee then took the boy under his wing and put him to work at his Unlimited sound system.
Junjo Presents Two Big Sound
By 1983, the youngster found himself appearing on Lawes' Junjo Presents Two Big Sound, which was recorded live and featured such DJ heavyweights as Dillinger and Fathead. Along with Unlimited, Beenie was also DJ'ing at Prince Jammy's Volcano sound system, had a hit single to his credit, "Over the Sea," produced by Niney Holness, and even had a debut album out. Produced by Lee, The Invincible Beenie Man, the 10-Year-Old DJ Wonder's title pretty much summed it all up. He recorded some songs with Barrington Levy in 1984, two of which, "Under Mi Sensi" and "Two Sounds," would resurface in remixed form later in the '90s. But for the moment, his recording career came virtually to a close, bar the occasional single. But the young DJ remained a sound system favourite, even as he now turned his attention to his schoolwork.
Guns Out
Not surprisingly, Beenie's younger brother, Little Kirk, was keen to follow in his footsteps, and five years later the siblings hooked up with producer Patrick Roberts and began recording a series of singles that quickly brought them into the national spotlight. In 1992, Beenie appeared at Reggae Sunsplash and such was the response that the DJ now felt ready to take on the big guns. Beenie's first target was the acclaimed Bounty Killer, although the young DJ had cause for his attack as the veteran had stolen his catchphrase, "people dead," and the war was on. There was a lull in the very public battle in 1993 when Beenie left Kingston for almost a year after being booed off the stage at a national show celebrating the visit of Nelson Mandela. Upon his return the next year, there was a public reconciliation with Bounty Killer, which resulted in the split album Guns Out.
Beenie had a major change of heart, further evidenced by his single "No Mama No Cry," a version of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry," a scathing indictment of violence, inspired by the murder of fellow DJ Pan Head. The song topped the Jamaican chart and brought the DJ instant acclaim. Pan Head's murder would go unsolved, adding to Beenie's emotional devastation, with additional contemporaries lost to violence later that year. Beenie was affected by these events and Sly & Robbie, the producers of his "No Mama No Cry" single, were instrumental in guiding the young DJ toward his conversion to Rastafarianism.
A new attitude and a hit single instantly turned Beenie's career around. Now working with all the island's top producers, the DJ recorded a slew of songs, many of them religiously themed, including "Praise Him" and "World Dance" (which took the Best Single Award at the Jamaican Music Awards). The hits-heavy Defend It and Dis Unu Fi Hear were both released in 1994 and combined more culturally themed raps with a hardcore dancehall sound. Many of these singles, bar the Taxi releases, were rounded up on Gold by the British Charm label. Beenie's stardom was confirmed by his taking the DJ of the Year Award that same year. Signing to Island Records, Beenie released the seminal Blessed album, which featured another clutch of hits, including the dancehall smash "Slam."

Official Boomtown Festival Queen Omega Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Queen Omega Live 2023
Jean Osbourne, 31 August 1981, Trinidad, West Indies. In her early schooldays, Queen Omega initially performed calypso at various talent contests, but in her teenage years, she began providing backing vocals for a number of Trinidad’s leading soca stars. Her debut as a soloist was a dancehall soca fusion, ‘Fire’, which was followed by the Rastafarian-influenced ‘Babylon Bus’. While Trinidad is celebrated for carnival, calypso and soca the island’s younger generation embraced the music of Jamaica. The popularity of ragga on the islands resulted in appearances from artists such as Anthony B., Bushman and Determine. The visiting Jamaicans were supported by Queen Omega and her association led to ragga recording sessions with Doctor Marshall who produced ‘Warning’ and ‘Highest High’. The songs were assured hits when the producer overdubbed lyrics from Capleton and Sizzla. The dread DJs accepted her pseudonym Queen Omega as an acknowledgement of her Rastafarian ideals (Omega is described as the Ethiopian woman who was arguably the queen of the world).
In the new millennium, Queen Omega was recorded with Tony Rebel in Jamaica. He produced the uncharacteristic ‘Love Yah’, which was relegated to the b-side of ‘Big It Up Fah’. While on the island she met the indomitable Mickey D who introduced her to Trevor ‘Juggling’ T. who produced her self-titled debut. The release featured contributions from the Ruff Cut Band, Anthony B. and Archie Wonder.

Official Boomtown Festival Barrington Levy Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Barrington Levy Live 2023
One of the great success stories of the '80s, Barrington Levy, arrived on the dancehall scene and swiftly remodelled it in his own image. Although numerous DJs and vocalists would rise and fall during this decade, Levy was one of the few with staying power, and he continued releasing massive hits well into the '90s. Born in 1964 in Clarendon, Jamaica, as a youngster, Barrington Levy formed the Mighty Multitude with his cousin Everton Dacres. They started off playing the sound systems and cut their first single, "My Black Girl," in 1977. All of 14, Levy broke out on his own the next year and recorded his debut solo single, "A Long Time Since We Don't Have No Love." It didn't have much of an impact, however, the teen's appearances in the dancehalls were eagerly awaited events. It was at one of these that Levy met former singer-turned-producer Junjo Lawes and New York-based producer Hyman "Jah Life" Wright. The pair took the youth into Channel One studio, accompanied by the Roots Radics, and recorded a clutch of cuts. The first fruits of this union were "Ah Yah We Deh," quickly followed by "Looking My Love," "Englishman," and "Wedding Ring Aside." Success was immediate, but it was the mighty "Collie Weed" that really cemented the teen's hold of dancehall. "Shine Eye Girl" was a smash follow-up, and the young Levy was now in great demand. A stream of singles followed, "Wicked Intention," "Jumpy Girl," a lovely version of Horace Andy's "Skylarking," the humorous "Disco Music," "Reggae Music," and "Wicked Intention" included. Levy joined forces with producer Alvin Ranglin for another sting of hits -- "Never Tear My Love Apart," "Jah," "You Made Me So Happy," and "When You're Young and in Love."
Bounty Hunter
Levy's rich vocals were made for duets, both with other vocalists and DJs, and it wasn't long before the young star was also recording collaborative singles. Toyan was a great foil on "Call You on the Phone," he paired with Jah Thomas on "Moonlight Lover" and "Sister Debby," and joined forces with Trinity for "Lose Respect" and a follow-up, "I Need a Girl," in 1980. That same year, Levy made a sensational appearance at Reggae Sunsplash, then returned in 1981. During these early years, the singer seemingly spent all of his time between the recording studios and the dancehalls. Amidst the deluge of singles, four albums arrived as well between 1979 and 1980. First up was Bounty Hunter, which boasted three smash singles -- "Reggae Music," "Shine Eye Girl," and "Looking My Love" -- and a clutch of other tracks that were just about as good. In Britain, the Burning Sounds label released Shine Eye Gal, also a hits-heavy package which included the title-track, "Collie Weed," and "Ah Yah We Deh." It was swiftly followed by the mighty Englishman, an absolutely fabulous record which was overseen by the unbeatable studio grouping of Junjo Lawes and two of King Tubby's protégés -- Scientist and Prince Jammy. Jammy was the veteran of this trio, but Lawes, barely into his twenties, was swift to establish his reputation as one of the island's top producers. Scientist, meanwhile, was still only in his late teens, but already a noted engineer and famed remixer, and Lawes would utilize his talents at every opportunity. The Roots Radics' rhythms would form the basis of Lawes production sound, which was heavily roots-based, but had a toughness that swept across the dancehalls like a machine gun. Roots music itself, though, was losing its grip on the contemporary Jamaican music scene, and the time was ripe -- musically, politically, and culturally -- for a change. People had tired of the more militant rasta-fired visions and were searching for something lighter, but with the immediacy of the dancehalls. Levy provided the perfect answer. A veteran of the clubs, he brought the spontaneity of the DJ to his records, while returning vocals back to the sound system scene which had been purely the realm of the DJs.

Official Boomtown Festival Mr Williamz Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Mr Williamz Live 2023
Mr Williamz's first ever live stage performance was at the tender age of 8 on the local sound system in his community, it was a clash (lyrical competition) of which he was crowned winner which inspired him to begin writing lyrics. Returning to London at age 16 he and his younger began setting up a small sound system, recording specials onto tape/cassette and then getting them cut onto steel plates creating their own dubplates.
Emerging onto the reggae scene in 2008 with his debut single "Babylon in Helicopter" (Produced by Necessary Mayhem) which reached No1 in the U.S singles charts, No2 in the German reggae charts and charted No 15 in the German reggae charts the year 2008. This led to Mr Williamz being honoured by the BBC as the UK artist of the year 2008. He has since released follow-up singles such as "No Cigarette" which features on The Biggest Reggae Anthems 2009 (Greensleeves CD). and "Real General" which reached No 1 in Japan's singles charts only weeks after being released, other tracks include "Better Meds" with Tony Curtis & "London" both on the JAM1 riddim and getting good rotation worldwide.
Having toured Central America (Costa Rica - Panama) and many countries in Europe, Mr Williamz is fast proving to be one of the most promising reggae/dancehall artists out of London, U.K

Official Boomtown Festival Kabaka Pyramid Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Kabaka Pyramid Live 2023
Jamaican rapper, singer, and producer Kabaka Pyramid rose to popularity in the early 2010s with his socially minded fusion of hip-hop, reggae, and dancehall. Born Keron Salmon, the Kingston native adapted his moniker from the Ugandan word for "King" (Kabaka), while referencing the spiritual power of the pyramids. Already a rising star at home, his 2013 full-length, Lead the Way, reached well beyond the Caribbean, earning him a Juno Award in Canada and a widespread fan base. A respected producer and collaborator working out of Kingston's Bebble Rock Studios, he has worked with a variety of acts, from Protoje to Akon. His popularity continued to rise with 2018's Kontraband, eventually leading to a Grammy Award for his acclaimed third album, 2022's The Kalling.
As a child in Kingston, Pyramid developed an early love of music, rewriting the lyrics of popular songs and recording himself on his mother's tape recorder. Infused with a native love for reggae, he found himself deeply attracted to the rhythms and lyricism of hip-hop during his high-school years and began his career performing primarily as a rapper. After landing a track on a mixtape by New York's DJ Green Lantern, he issued his own mixtape, The Transition, Vol. 1, in 2007. A year later, he became involved with Kingston-based studio, label, and production company Bebble Rock, a connection he would continue to develop over the next decade. The Transition, Vol. 2 mixtape followed in 2009 as Pyramid broadened his reach through features and collaborations with artists like Five Steez and Keznamdi, while also working as a producer for acts like Ashanti and Massyka.
Around this time, his music began to move increasingly toward a fusion of reggae, hip-hop, and dancehall with 2011's Rebel Music EP and his full-length debut, 2013's Lead the Way. A major success at home and a career breakout elsewhere, Lead the Way earned Pyramid two Jamaica Reggae Industry Association Awards as well as a Juno Award for Best Reggae Album in Canada. He also became more active in charitable and social outreach programs like Manifesto Jamaica, which serves to empower Jamaican youth through the influence of arts and culture.
A bevy of singles arrived in the years following Lead the Way, including tracks like 2015's "Phenomenon," the fiery 2016 Raekwon collaboration "Be Inspired," and 2017's more laid-back "Revolution of the Mind." In May 2018, Pyramid returned with his sophomore full-length, Kontraband, which featured guest spots from Damian Marley, Akon, and Protoje.

Official Sir Coxsone Outernational Sound System: Reggae Rub A Dub Selection at Brixton 4k Live 2023
Official Sir Coxsone Outernational Sound System: Reggae Rub A Dub Selection at Brixton 4k Live 2023
Lloyd Blackford aka Sir Lloyd Coxsone is an influential figure in the growth of the UK reggae scene, Lloyd Coxsone left his home in St Thomas, Jamaica, and arrived in the UK in 1962, settling in South West London. Then joined the first sound Queen of the West as a selector, then moved on to Barry Sky Rocket as a selector. After leaving Barry SkyRocket, he went on to build his own sound Lloyd the Matador. After Matador he joined Duke Reid as a selector. After Duke Reid, he built his second sound Sir Coxsone Outernational Sound. Rather than specialising in one particular style, Coxsone Sound offered music for all tastes.
Coxsone, like other sound men, also expanded into the record business, licensing music from Jamaica at first, then trying his hand at his own productions using local UK artists. In 1975 he enjoyed huge success, and kick-started the UK lovers rock phenomenon in the process, with his production of “Caught You In A Lie” – originally a US soul hit by Robert Parker – featuring the vocal talents of 14-year-old South London schoolgirl Louisa Mark. That same year he issued one of the best dub albums of the era King of The Dub Rock, which featured dubwise versions of his own productions and those of Gussie Clarke, mixed in part at King Tubby’s. Other notable records appeared on his Tribesman and Lloyd Coxsone Outernational labels and elsewhere during the late 70s and early 80s, including Fabian’s Jack Ruby – produced ‘Prophecy’, Love And Only Love’ and Voice of The Poor’ by Fred Locks. Others included ‘Stormy Night’ and ‘Homeward Bound’ by the Creation Steppers, a version of the Commodores’ ‘Easy’ by Jimmy Lindsay (many of which are available on 12 The Hard Way) and many more. During the mid-80s Coxsone handed control of his sound over to the younger elements in his team, notably Festus and a new breed of DJs. Lloyd Coxsone released Fred Locks, Creation Stepper, Fabian, Burning Spear, Jimmy Lindsay, Delroy Wilson and Coxsone, DJ Jah Screechy, Daddy Freddy, Levi Roots, Tennerfly, and many more. The first sound to play in Europe. Being the first sound to introduce Roots and Culture in the Uk, he is still a prominent figure at the controls.
