Dennis Bovell is a reggae guitarist, bass player and record producer. He was a member of the British reggae band Matumbi and released dub-reggae records under his own name as well as the pseudonym Blackbeard. He is most widely known for his decades-spanning collaborations with Linton Kwesi Johnson. Bovell moved to South London and became immersed in Jamaican culture, particularly dub music, setting up his own Jah Sufferer sound system. Bovell was friends at school with future rock musicians including keyboardist Nick Straker and record producer Tony Mansfield, both of whom later worked with Bovell. He formed Matumbi in the mid-1970s.
Bovell also worked as an engineer at Dip Records, the precursor to the Lovers Rock label, and he was a key figure in the early days of the lover's rock genre. He is also known for attempting to fuse disco rhythms with reggae, most notably with the hit song "Silly Games" by Janet Kay. According to Bovell, he wrote "Silly Games" with the sole intent of it being a hit song.
He has produced albums by a wide variety of artists including I-Roy, The Thompson Twins, Sharon Shannon, Alpha Blondy, Bananarama, The Pop Group, Fela Kuti, The Slits, Orange Juice and Madness. He has collaborated with poet, Linton Kwesi Johnson for much of his working life.
Bovell also co-wrote and co-produced the majority of material by British reggae singer Bobby Kray.
In 1980, he wrote the score for Franco Rosso's film Babylon. Bovell has also written music for the 1983 television drama The Boy Who Won the Pools and Global Revolution (2006)

Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp: Junior Cat Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance 🇯🇲
Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp: Junior Cat Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance 🇯🇲
Born Ricardo Maragh in Kingston, Jamaica, JUNIOR CAT started making his way through the rugged ranks of dancehall leagues in his early teens while hanging out in the local clubs, shops and street corners of the Cockburn Pen community. "The Pen," at the time, was the hub for the reggae industry's finest architects. Junior Cat's popularity grew when he entertained the masses with his quick-witted freestyling while effortlessly "riding a riddim," without so much as skipping a beat. His climb to fame was, however, more painstaking as he was often compared to his older brother, Super Cat who was already making his way to mainstream fame. That, however, did not impede JUNIOR CAT's ambition.
After winning a local talent contest, Junior Cat extended his prowess to Sound Systems -where greats like Early B; Puddy Roots; Little Twitch and Ninja Man gathered at dances to compete with one another in support of their "Sound." Soundclash competitions began to spread throughout the island taking the artists to higher levels of fame around the world. Fans then and now pay big money to be in the presence of a Sound Clash especially when there is an artist performing live alongside the selectors. The bigger the Sound, the more exhilarating the experience. Junior Cat, a bad boy per se, quickly built a reputation for holding no prisoners on the mic with the toughest lines that made grown men run in shame and were a regular feature on what would later become the World Famous Killamanjaro Sound.
JUNIOR CAT was given his first opportunity to record a song by producer King Jammy and that single, NEVER DIS THE PROGRAM amazingly entered the National Charts at #3. It wasn't long before he had a succession of single hits (Can't Nyam Me Out, Clappers And Bomb, Curve, Dead Man, Deportee, Figure, Inna Me Gun Mouth, Funeral Bag, Original Dog Heart, Killing Pussy, Make A Living, Nah Lef It Far, Rougher Than Rough, Sample, Slick Rick, Top Dog, Who So Ever Will May Come, and Wickedest Gun) that kept his voice steady on the airwaves which led to the recording of his debut album "Top Dog," (1992) again on the King Jammy's label. Junior Cat, as expected, was becoming a catalyst in the game.
After receiving much success from the release of Top Dog, JUNIOR CAT moved to New York and signed to his brother's Wild Apache Label. During that union, he recorded several more songs, SECOND HAND DON, DJ ORIGINATOR, and TELL THEM STOP IT, before collaborating with Super Cat, Nicodemus, and Junior Demus on Columbia Records' The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Crazy.
Shortly after the album dropped, JUNIOR CAT's contract with Wild Apache expired and instead of renewing, he chose to seek his own and pursued opportunities that took him on several tours throughout the hungering reggae markets of Europe, Japan and South America. He headed back into the studio to produce and record more Specials on independent labels before finally deciding to endeavour in another area of the music business and forming his own label MR. MARAGH MUSIC. He has been producing other artists as well as his own music in other countries and collaborating with giants of the Hip Hop community to create a new style of hits proving his versatility and loyalty to the art of his genre simultaneously expanding his fanbase to the younger generation.
In the last couple of years, a matured JUNIOR CAT has eloquently expressed his Spiritual side via Conscious/Roots Reggae which highly reflects his Rastafarian faith. This connection is heard on his new album tentatively titled, Fight Back slated for a late Winter/Early Spring 2014 release. The first single, JAH WORKS, will be the first single to drop at the end of November 2013 before the height of the Holiday Season with another joint, NO ROCK AWAY shortly thereafter.

Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp: Tony Curtis & Singing Melody Live In Jamaica 🇯🇲
In 1991, Tony Curtis moved to Ocho Rios where he entered a local talent contest alongside DJ Jigsy King. Curtis won the contest as Best Singer and King was designated the winning DJ. Inspired by their victory Barry O’Hare, of Roof International, suggested they record at his studios, which resulted in the successful single, ‘Butterfly’. While with the Roof crew, Curtis also recorded the haunting ‘Where Is The Love’ in combination with Stan Ryck. After his success with Roof International, Curtis joined the Stone Love crew, who released the probing ‘Do You Want To’ and by 1993 he had toured Japan. In 1997, the singer had a Jamaican number 1 hit, ‘Missing You’, in combination with ARP and Beenie Man. A year later, he enjoyed an international hit with ‘My Lady In Red’, produced by Carl ‘Banton’ Nelson. While Curtis savoured a successful solo career he also joined the vocal group L.U.S.T., alongside Singing Melody, Thriller U and Lukie D. The combined performers stated that the group was going to put the ‘Flava back into reggae’. L.U.S.T. performed at MIDEM 1998 and later in New York at the third Culturama festival to critical acclaim. In addition to his L.U.S.T. project, Curtis established his solo career with a series of hits including, ‘I Can Fly’, ‘Nobody’, ‘Love Should’ve Bought You Home’, ‘Home Alone’, ‘Sweet Lady’, ‘Party Time’, ‘Faith’, ‘Lose Your Woman’, ‘You Left Me Lonely’, and a combination with Merciless, ‘Married Life’.
Singing Melody. Everton Hardware (born 23 November 1967), better known by his stage name Singing Melody, is a Reggae artist from Kingston, Jamaica. He is known for his abilities as a vocalist, his production work and for combining aspects of Reggae and R&B in his own releases.

Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp: Everton Blender Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance
Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp: Everton Blender Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance
With his smooth, crooning, tenor vocals, up-tempo arrangements, and spiritually uplifting themes, Everton Blender (born Everton Dennis Williams) is one of the top performers of Jamaica's dancehall tradition. In addition to receiving the prestigious Chicago Martins International award, Blender received South Florida Reggae/Soca awards as "most improved entertainer" in 1996 and 1997. According to The St. Louis Dispatch, Blender "evokes memories of classic reggae performers of the past." Rootsworld added, "Blender's voice is a friendly, expressive purr, skipping sure-footedly through and around melodies, supported by varied, bouncy, instrumentation rooted in signature booming reggae bass, kept light by lively percussion and bright background vocals."
Blender's musical career was launched when he entered an amateur contest at the Bohemia Club, singing Dennis Brown songs under the name "Babbaru." Winning the contest on his second attempt, he began appearing on the Destiny Sound System. Although he released several singles, including "Where Is Love" in 1979 and "Baba Black Sheep" in 1985, his failure to achieve commercial success left him frustrated and disillusioned. For nearly a decade, he remained withdrawn from music.
Lift up Your HeadBlender resumed his career in 1995 when Garnett Silk, a former co-worker at the Destiny Sound System, introduced him to record producer Richard Bell. Bell was so impressed by Blender's vocalizing that he signed him to record for his label, Star Trail. One of his first singles for the label, "We No Jus' a Come," became a hit. Blender was equally successful in England where his first album, Lift Up Your Head, reached number four on the Black Echo music chart. The title track was subsequently nominated for a Jamaican Music award. Blender's album, Rootsman Credential, released in 1999, included the hit tune, "Ghetto People Sing." The 14 singles that he recorded after his debut album were compiled on the album, A Piece of da Blender: The Singles, released in 1996.

Exclusive Reggae Rub a Dub Live Session: Donovan Kingjay - Tributes Official King Tubbys
Exclusive Reggae Rub a Dub Live Session: Donovan Kingjay - Tributes Official King Tubbys
King Tubby is to this day synonymous with dub. He was a man who had a passion for fiddling with sound equipment and turned that passion into a new musical genre and a veritable art form. He may have started his career as a repairman, but before he was done, his name was one of the most respected around the world. He worked with virtually every artist in Jamaica, and his name on a remix was like gold, a seal of quality that was never questioned.
King Tubby was born under the more humble name of Osbourne Ruddock in Kingston, Jamaica, on January 28, 1941. Initially, the closest he got to the music scene was via the airwaves, as Ruddock spent his teens working as a radio repairman. In the mid-'50s, Jamaica was undergoing a revolution that saw the audiences move out of the dancehalls, which had once packed them in with live music provided by big bands, and onto the streets. There the sound systems ruled as travelling outfits set themselves up on a sociable street or corner and blasted records to crowds through a speaker. Initially, they were small, but the sound systems quickly grew in size and legend; the competition was extremely fierce and often violent. Speakers were the usual victims of these rivalries (sometimes along with the DJs, organizers, and even the audience). The people weren't the only ones who were damaged, which is why in the late '50s the operator of a Waterhouse sound system approached Ruddock for help. The repairman fixed that speaker, then another, and another, until he was providing first aid for a variety of sound systems around the city. A born tinkerer, Ruddock inevitably began coming up with ways to improve things as well. He spent years working on other people's sound systems, but by 1968, he was ready to open his own shop: the legendary Tubby's Home Town Hi-Fi.
The sound he provided there was nigh on perfect, which meant King Tubby himself was now beginning to look around for something new to fiddle with. Producer Duke Reid offered the perfect solution via a job at his Treasure Isle studio as a disc cutter. There, King Tubby began deconstructing and reconstructing music in the same way he had sound systems, but these early efforts were really remixes, an already old skill in Jamaica. The remix began as a "version" B-side, nothing more than an instrumental of a vocal track. Ruddy Redwood, a sound system MC and engineer at Treasure Isle, had taken the next logical step forward, physically remixing records in the rocksteady years to place the focus on the bass. King Tubby took this concept to a whole new level. He started stripping out not only the vocals, but cutting up instrumental parts, dropping them in and out of the tracks, adding new effects and sounds, while also making use of phasing, shifts, and echoes. Many of these experiments were pressed onto acetate dubplates and spun at his sound system. These stripped-down tracks were integral to the rise of the DJs, and King Tubby not only cut exclusive dubplates for his favourites, he also hired the best to perform at his sound system. U-Roy, I-Roy and Big Youth were just some of the stars who made their mark toasting at Tubby's Hi Fi.
In 1971, King Tubby was ready to take another leap forward and opened his own studio. There, the experiments continued as the remixer-turned-engineer moved into the area of studio effects. The studio quickly became a favourite for the likes of Augustus Pablo, Lee Perry, Prince Tony Robinson, and Glen Brown. It was the latter man who history acclaims as the first to actually credit a King Tubby mix on record. The aptly titled "Tubby's at the Control" was a remix of "Merry Up" by God Sons (an alias for Tommy McCook and Rad Bryan). Robinson followed suit, releasing "Tubby's in Full Swing," a song credited to Lloyd Robinson and Carey Johnson.
Dub from the RootsKing Tubby began turning out remixes in prolific numbers. Bunny Lee kept him busy with a constant stream of singles to remix and a batch was bundled up in 1974 as the seminal Dub From the Roots album, and more were featured on the follow-up, King Tubby Meets the Aggrovators at Dub Station. Years later, the British Klik label reissued most of Roots as Shalom Dub, buttressed with bonus tracks.

Official Exclusive Freesystyle: Ragga Twins & DJ Seanie Tee Live & Direct In Full Effect Live Music
The Destouche brothers -- Trevor, aka Flinty Badman, and David, aka Deman Rocker -- became known as MCs as part of North London's Unity sound system and began operating as the Ragga Twins in 1989. Through 1992, they issued a pile of 12" singles through the self-named label run by Shut Up & Dance (who also did the production work), along with the album Reggae Owes Me Money (1991); these releases, containing tracks like "Illegal Gunshot," "Spliffhead," and an early featured role on Shut Up & Dance's "Lamborghini," were bold steps forward, fiercely energetic mutations of dancehall, hip-hop, and jungle.
Resurfacing in 1995 on EMI with relatively conservative Us3-produced releases like "Freedom Train" and "Money," they also put together a second album, Rinsin Lyrics (1995). Scattered singles appeared during the early 2000s, and in 2008 the Soul Jazz label compiled Ragga Twins Step Out, which focused on the Shut Up & Dance era.

Official Sir Coxsone Sound System ft Frankie Paul, Pinchers, Tenafly, Mikey General at Clapham Park
Official Sir Coxsone Sound System ft Frankie Paul, Pinchers, Tenafly, Mikey General & more at Clapham Common Park 1986
Sir Coxsone Outernational has long been an important part of Britain’s sound system culture.
In its heyday of the 70s and 80s, the sound retained an insurmountable edge, thanks to the unbeatable tag-team of proprietor Lloydie Coxsone and his star selector, Festus, and an ever-changing crew of supporting members that kept the sound perpetually fresh and innovative. With an endless supply of superior dubplates sourced from top producers in Jamaica, augmented by some of their own productions cut with high-ranking music makers in the UK, Sir Coxsone was undeniably top of Britain’s sound system circuit. Their superior selection and the manner in which they presented it to the public gave Coxsone the kind of credibility that most other sounds were never able to achieve, leading to longstanding residencies at nightclubs in the fashionable West End.
They played a big part in spearheading the lover’s rock movement and helped instigate the shift towards digital dancehall too. But by the dawning of the 1990s, Sir Coxsone Outernational was in serious decline. Its audience began to dwindle before internal conflict finished it off entirely, particularly after unspecified differences surfaced between Lloydie and Festus. Each man went their separate ways and stayed out of the limelight for the better part of 25 years.
Then, a few months ago, there was a request from the Kingston Dub Club for the pair to do a guest spot together in Jamaica. Although the two men ended up playing separate nights there, this was actually due to logistical matters rather than any unresolved personal differences. Instead of allowing smouldering resentments to fester, they’ve moved on from whatever beef has been spoiling the atmosphere all this time and delighted their many friends and fans by joining forces once more to prove to the world that Sir Coxsone Outernational remains unparalleled.

Official Saxon Studio Sound System ft Tippa Irie & Miss Irie & more in Jamaica 1987
Saxon Studio International is a reggae sound system from London, the first UK sound system to win an international competition.
Saxon Studio International began operating in Lewisham, South London in 1976.
The sound came to prominence in the early 80s because of the "fast chat" style which was pioneered by its deejay Peter King.
Other Saxon MCs included Tippa Irie, Smiley Culture, Asher Senator, Papa Levi, Daddy Colonel, Daddy Rusty and Daddy Sandy, each of whom developed this style and went on to release records, some (such as Smiley and Tippa) achieving Top 40 hits in the UK national chart.
Singer Maxi Priest also began his musical career on Saxon.
Saxon continues to play internationally, including an annual outing at London's Notting Hill Carnival. Their style has influenced artists such as Massive Attack (who invited them to play at the 2008 Meltdown festival which they curated and The Bug (who has collaborated with Tippa Irie and Saxon selector Trevor Sax).

Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp ft Tinga Stewart Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance
Official Reggae Exclusive at Rub A Dub Camp ft Tinga Stewart Live In Jamaica Live Music Performance
Tinga Stewart (born Neville Stewart in 1959 in Kingston, Jamaica) is holding strong as a purveyor of dancehall reggae. He started recording in the late '60s; his first recording was "She's Gone" in 1969 but the release of "Hear That Train" with Ernest Wilson, who was a member of the Claredonians, really got the ball rolling. The pairing with Wilson was a spur of the moment as Stewart also led a group (the Wildcats) that performed in Kingston's hotels and clubs. From that, he joined Byron Lee & the Dragonaires and gigged all over Jamaica with the popular group. Though reggae-rooted, Stewart was popular with tourists because of his love for American pop hits, especially soul music. A stint with Boris Gardner's Happening Band was his last group venture before going solo in 1973 when he enjoyed a local hit with "Funny Feeling." In 1974, he won the Jamaica Festival Song Competition by singing "Play de Music," written by Ernie Smith. Roman Stewart -- his brother -- won the contest the following year with a song Stewart and Willie Lindo wrote, entitled "Hooray Festival."
Stewart was voted the Most Popular Artist in Jamaica in 1981. That same year, his recording of "Nuh Weh Nuh Betts Dan Yard" won him acclaim outside of his homeland. He recorded his first albums and underwent a style change by teaming with Jamaica's most popular DJs and for a long list of dancehall hits. Stewart's rendition of "Take Time to Know Her," soared to number one worldwide and kept the legend hopping. His dancehall hits assault continued with Ninjaman; the pair recorded a slew of old Drifters' songs, and others, dancehall style. He got paid in 1994 with "Inside My Heart," written by his old friend Willie Lindo, and scored again in 1998 with "Whiter Shade of Pale" and "After All Is Said and Done."
Long from gigging only in Jamaica, Stewart spreads his love (he rarely does social or political songs) all over the world. He's in double digits as far as albums are recorded and has an astonishing 200 singles to his credit.

RARE Vintage Video Bob Marley LIVE Recording Reggae Classic - We and Dem
RARE Vintage Video Bob Marley LIVE Recording Reggae Classic - We and Dem
Reggae's most transcendent and iconic figure, Bob Marley was the first Jamaican artist to achieve international superstardom, in the process introducing the music of his native island nation to the far-flung corners of the globe. Marley's music gave voice to the day-to-day struggles of the Jamaican experience, vividly capturing not only the plight of the country's impoverished and oppressed but also the devout spirituality that remains their source of strength. Backed by his all-star band the Wailers, Marley delivered classics in the ska era of the early '60s, all but invented roots music with '70s albums like Catch a Fire, and offered millions of listeners an entry point to reggae with his posthumous best-of collection, 1984's Legend. His songs of faith, devotion, and revolution created a legacy that continues to live on not only through the music of his extended family but also through generations of artists the world over touched by his genius.
Robert Nesta Marley was born February 6, 1945, in rural St. Ann's Parish, Jamaica; the son of a middle-aged white father and teenaged Black mother, he left home at 14 to pursue a music career in Kingston, becoming a pupil of local singer and devout Rastafarian Joe Higgs. He cut his first single, "Judge Not," in 1962 for Leslie Kong, severing ties with the famed producer soon after over a monetary dispute. In 1963 Marley teamed with fellow singers Peter Tosh, Bunny Livingston, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, and Cherry Smith to form the vocal group the Teenagers; later rechristened the Wailing Rudeboys and later simply the Wailers, they signed on with producer Coxsone Dodd's legendary Studio One and recorded their debut, "I'm Still Waiting." When Braithwaite and Smith exited the Wailers, Marley assumed lead vocal duties, and in early 1964 the group's follow-up, "Simmer Down," topped the Jamaican charts. A series of singles including "Let Him Go (Rude Boy Get Gail)," "Dancing Shoes," "Jerk in Time," "Who Feels It Knows It," and "What Am I to Do" followed, and in all, the Wailers recorded some 70 tracks for Dodd before disbanding in 1966. On February 10 of that year, Marley married Rita Anderson, a singer in the group the Soulettes; she later enjoyed success as a member of the vocal trio the I-Threes. Marley then spent the better part of the year working in a factory in Newark, Delaware, his mother's home since 1963.
Upon returning to Jamaica that October, Marley re-formed the Wailers with Livingston and Tosh, releasing "Bend Down Low" on their own short-lived Wail 'N' Soul 'M label; at this time all three members began devoting themselves to the teachings of the Rastafari faith, a cornerstone of Marley's life and music until his death. Beginning in 1968, the Wailers recorded a wealth of new material for producer Danny Sims before teaming the following year with producer Lee "Scratch" Perry; backed by Perry's house band, the Upsetters, the trio cut a number of classics, including "My Cup," "Duppy Conqueror," "Soul Almighty," and "Small Axe," which fused powerful vocals, ingenious rhythms, and visionary production to lay the groundwork for much of the Jamaican music in their wake. Upsetters bassist Aston "Family Man" Barrett and his drummer brother Carlton soon joined the Wailers full-time, and in 1971 the group founded another independent label, Tuff Gong, releasing a handful of singles before signing to Chris Blackwell's Island Records a year later.
Burnin'
Catch a Fire, the Wailers' Island debut released in 1973, was the first of their albums released outside of Jamaica, and immediately earned worldwide acclaim; the follow-up, Burnin', launched the track "I Shot the Sheriff," a Top Ten hit for Eric Clapton in 1974. With the Wailers poised for stardom, however, both Livingston and Tosh quit the group to pursue solo careers; Marley then brought in the I-Threes, which in addition to Rita Marley consisted of singers Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. The new lineup proceeded to tour the world prior to releasing their 1975 breakthrough album, Natty Dread, scoring their first U.K. Top 40 hit with the classic "No Woman, No Cry." Sold-out shows at the London Lyceum, where Marley played to racially mixed crowds, yielded the superb Live! later that year, and with the success of 1976's Rastaman Vibration, which hit the Top Ten in the U.S., it became increasingly clear that his music had carved its own niche within the pop mainstream.
Exodus
As great as Marley's fame had grown outside of Jamaica, at home he was viewed as a figure of almost mystical proportions, a poet and prophet whose every word had the nation's collective ear. His power was perceived as a threat in some quarters, and on December 3, 1976, he was wounded in an assassination attempt; the ordeal forced him to leave Jamaica for over a year. Released in 1977, Exodus was his biggest record to date, generating the hits "Jamming," "Waiting in Vain," and "One Love/People Get Ready"; Kaya was another smash, highlighted by the gorgeous "Is This Love" and "Satisfy My Soul." Another classic live date, Babylon by Bus, preceded the release of 1979's Survival. Kicked off by a concert in the newly liberated Zimbabwe, 1980 loomed as Marley's biggest year yet; a tour of the U.S. was announced, but he collapsed while jogging in New York's Central Park, and it was discovered he suffered from cancer that had spread to his brain, lungs, and liver. Uprising was the final album released in Marley's lifetime -- he died May 11, 1981, at age 36.
Confrontation
Posthumous efforts including 1983's Confrontation, the best-selling 1984 retrospective Legend, and the 2012 documentary Marley kept the man's music alive. In the wake of her husband's passing, Rita Marley scored a solo hit with "One Draw," but despite the subsequent success of singles "Many Are Called" and "Play Play," she had largely withdrawn from performing by the mid-'80s to focus on raising her children. Oldest son David, better known as Ziggy, went on to score considerable pop success as the leader of the Melody Makers, a Marley family group comprising siblings Cedella, Stephen, and Sharon; their 1988 single "Tomorrow People" was a Top 40 U.S. hit, a feat even Bob himself never accomplished. Damian Marley, Bob's youngest son, embraced a musical style that integrated reggae, R&B, and hip-hop, and in 2005 he scored a major hit with the single "Welcome to Jamrock." Damian has also collaborated with the likes of Mariah Carey, Bruno Mars, and Sean Paul. Ky-Mani Marley, whose music also fuses elements of reggae and hip-hop, made his international breakthrough with the 2000 album The Journey and the single "Gotta Be Movin' on Up," a collaboration with the conscious hip-hop duo P.M. Dawn. And Damian and Ziggy's half-brother Julian Marley (he grew up in England with his mother, Lucy Pounder) released his debut album, Lion in the Morning, in 1996, going on to earn a Grammy nomination for 2009's Awake.
Chant Down Babylon
Marley himself remained synonymous with reggae's worldwide popularity long after his death, and the wealth of music he left behind was repackaged, re-mixed, re-examined, and re-released regularly throughout the decades in the form of both legitimate projects and a never-ending string of bootleg releases. Apart from the obvious impact of Legend (which was certified platinum more than 15 times over and holds the distinction of best-selling reggae album of all time,) other releases of note issued after Marley's death include 1999's Chant Down Babylon, a hip-hop reworking of Marley classics that boasted contributions from the Roots, Lauryn Hill, Rakim, and others and 2009's B Is for Bob, which reimagines selections from his catalog as children's songs.

Official City Splash Festival: Twinkle Brothers, DJ Kenny Ken & Ragga Twins Highlights
Official City Splash Festival: Twinkle Brothers, Kenny Ken & Ragga Twins
The Twinkle Brothers have been around since the beginning of time or at least the beginning of reggae. Led by Norman Grant, the Twinkles began in the early '60s as a trio featuring Grant and his two brothers singing in a slick trio style similar to that of the Melodians and the Mighty Diamonds. In the early '70s, the group hooked up with the influential producer and arranger Bunny Lee, a union that produced a number of reggae hits including "We Can Do It Too" and "Miss Laba Laba." In 1975, the Twinkles released their best and most widely known record, Rasta Pon Top, a rasta-infused, roots-heavy demi-masterpiece that included soul and gospel vocal stylings within the deep grooves. Although hardcore reggae audiences were the principal fans of the Twinkle Brothers, Grant and company were consistently releasing chart-topping records. As much as this brought great success to the band, it also created a significant amount of friction, as Grant began seeing himself more as a solo act and less as a member of a trio.
Ragga Twins Trevor, aka Flinty Badman, and David, aka Deman Rocker -- became known as MCs as part of North London's Unity sound system and began operating as the Ragga Twins in 1989.

Official Julian Marley Live Performance at Boomtown 2022
Official Julian Marley Live Performance at Boomtown 2022
Like his father, reggae pioneer Bob Marley, and several of his siblings before him, Julian Marley pursued the life of a musician, becoming a fixture in the reggae world as a singer, songwriter, producer, and collaborator. Proficient on a number of instruments from a young age, Julian worked with brothers Stephen, Damian, and Ky-Mani Marley as part of the Ghetto Youth Crew before releasing his own solo debut, Lion in the Morning, in 1996. Touring globally both with his backing band, the Uprising, and as part of various other Marley family-related projects, Julian's solo career reached a new level with 2009's critically acclaimed Awake, which earned a Grammy nomination. A devout Rastafarian, his songs promote themes of goodwill, spirituality, and social justice.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
The ninth of Bob Marley's children, Julian Marley was born in London on June 4, 1975 to Barbados native Lucy Pounder. Raised in both England and Jamaica, he took to the family business at a young age and displayed a natural musical ability on guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. He spent some time during his teenage years living in Miami, where he developed his creative abilities at the Lion's Den, a studio owned by the Marley family. Along with brothers Ziggy and Stephen, he became involved with the family charity production company and label, Ghetto Youth International, which in the early '90s branched out into the Ghetto Youth Crew, a touring group that featured Julian, Stephen, Damian, and Ky-Mani Marley. Julian made his solo debut with 1996's Lion in the Morning. Recorded in Jamaica at Tuff Gong Studios where his father had created some of his best-known music, the album was credited to Julian Marley & the Uprising and featured a host of guest artists including Wailers member Tyrone Downie and siblings Stephen, Sharon, and Cedella Marley. In addition to touring around the world with the Uprising, he also joined his brother Damien's band during for a Lollapalooza tour and played guitar on Lauryn Hill's Grammy-winning 1998 LP The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
A Time & Place
Julian continued to do occasional solo tours with the Uprising while also joining other members of the Marley clan on the road and in the studio. He resumed his own solo recording career with A Time and Place, which was released in 2003 via Tuff Gong and Lightyear Entertainment. The following summer, he and all of his musical brothers united for the touring Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival where they honored their father's catalog while playing cuts from their own albums as well. This united family band also made stops in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Jamaica over the next few years and in 2008, Julian and the Uprising were invited to perform at the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing where they represented Jamaica.
As I Am
Released by Universal and the family's own Ghetto Youth United label, 2009's Awake proved to be a breakout album for Julian, earning a Best Album of the Year award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards and a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album. In the years that followed, Julian continued to tour occasionally, nurturing a diverse international fan base through stops in Morocco, Bangladesh, and Switzerland. A full decade passed before he followed up Awake with his fourth solo album, As I Am, in 2019. Another family affair, the sessions were co-produced by his brothers Stephen and Damian Marley.

Official Koffee Live Performance at Boomtown 2022
Official Koffee Live Performance at Boomtown 2022
Known by her nickname Koffee, Mikayla Simpson is a Jamaican singer, rapper, DJ, and guitarist whose vibrant mix of dancehall, reggae, and rap earned her international attention and a major-label deal with Columbia, which issued her debut EP, Rapture, in 2019. The release won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, and following guest appearances on songs by J Hus and John Legend, Koffee released her long-awaited debut album, Gifted, in 2022.
Born in 2000 and raised by her single mother in Spanish Town, just outside of Kingston, Simpson sang in the church choir as a child and taught herself to play the guitar at the age of 12. Inspired by Jamaican reggae stars like Protoje and Chronixx, she began writing lyrics in her early teens and in 2016 won her school's talent show. She earned her nickname on a particularly hot day when she was the only one among her friends who ordered a hot coffee while they were drinking soda. As Koffee, she released an acoustic version of her song "Legend," about Jamaican runner Usain Bolt in 2017, and the video quickly went viral on Instagram. Her next single, "Burning," featured her original take on Upsetta Records' "Ouji Riddim" and topped several reggae charts in the U.S.
In 2018, at only 18, Koffee performed with both Protoje and Chronixx, joining the latter on a BBC broadcast from Kingston's legendary Tuff Gong Studios and later on a tour of the U.K. Her status as a rising star grew even brighter when she signed with Columbia U.K. and released the singles "Toast" and "Ragamuffin," both of which appeared on her debut EP, Rapture, in 2019. The release debuted at the top of Billboard's reggae chart. In November of that year, Koffee released the single "W," a collaboration with U.S. rapper Gunna. The song was a hit, charting in the U.K. and being streamed millions of times worldwide. At the 62nd Grammy Awards, Koffee took home the trophy for "Best Reggae Album" for Rapture. This achievement made her the youngest person and the first woman to ever receive the award.
Koffee was featured on J Hus' single "Repeat," which reached number 21 in the U.K. She also appeared on "Don't Walk Away" by John Legend, and released several solo singles, including "Lockdown," "Pressure," and "The Harder They Fall." "Pull Up" preceded the release of Koffee's debut full-length, Gifted, which arrived in March of 2022.

Official Klymaxx International Sound System Dubplate Showcase
Official Klymaxx International Sound System Dubplate Showcase
It all began in 1992 as an idea between 4 friends in a basement in Ajax, Ontario when founding members of Klymaxx sound Garry Edwards, Gary Taylor, Slick & Sledge with the help of Ricky trooper from Killamanjaro decided to launch Klymaxx Sound. In 1993 the sound would have its first opportunity on the battlefield against a sound called Lexus.
Surprised by the number of dubs the young sound had Lexus was handily defeated. In that same year, Linden from Soul Action joined the sound which now made Klymaxx into a juggling sound with Gary selecting & Linden as the MC making an impact Klymaxx continued juggling with Sounds from jamaica like Killamanjaro, Pieces, Stone Love & with Toronto's top sounds king Turbo, Digital, Red Flame, Hi Tek and clashed sounds like Diplomat, Heavyweight and Desert Storm just to name a few. After a couple of years on the scene, it was time for Klymaxx sound to step out of Toronto and start juggling in places like Montreal, Ottawa and NYC juggling with Sounds such as Tek9 and Illusions.
In 1996 Klymaxx had to take a pause from the music scene due to unforeseen circumstances, however, in the year 1997 something big would happen that would change the face of the sound forever! Squidly and Specialist joined the sound that year and continued to juggle the sound playing in places like Detroit with King Harmony and in 1998 juggling in Jamaica with Venus sound. From 1998 to 2007 Klymaxx became known as a menace to the business always ready and willing to clash with all contenders but there were very few.
Finally In 2007 Klymaxx sound entered their first official sound clash named Canadian idol, Durham cup clash. DesertStorm, Silver Bullet, Eternaty, King Chaplin were also the participants. Between 2008 & 2011 Klymaxx continued to juggle with sounds like Chinese Assassin, Champion Squad, Stone Love and Toronto's best.
In 2011 klymaxx entered fully loaded clashing sounds such as Outcast, Don Rankin, Super Gold and SoulSurvival. 2012 Klymaxx clashed Lexus Supreme and Super Gold in No Way Out, where they would win all the rounds but lose in tune fi tune to Lexus Supreme by time falter. 2013 Klymaxx sound was in a clash called Rising Stars, where once again they would win all rounds but lose in tune fi tune. Klymaxx, now well seasoned in the clash arena decided to enter a round robbin clash called King of the Ring. Klymaxx won the first round by default & Super force was locked off in the second round and Klymaxx would advance to the finals.
Still, in the same year December 6th, 2013 Klymaxx defeated 9 sounds to win Fully Loaded. Six days later Klymaxx was at war again for the King of the Ring finals. This is where Klymaxx defeated Super Gold and Cumtraxx to take home the King of the Ring trophy, winning 2 clashes in the span of 7 days a feat that no sound in Canada has yet to accomplish. Winning King of the Ring had earned Klymaxx the right to clash with Young Hawk the raining Dub fe Dub champion but due to unfortunate circumstances, Young hawk sound had to drop out of Dub fe Dub and would have to be replaced with Innocent Sound. This clash was called Dub fe Dub part 3 and took place May 17th 2014 when Klymaxx sound would lock off Innocent and Total Eclipse in four rounds.
In the span of May 2013 to May 2014 Klymaxx sound made 17 duppy and claimed the titles of reining Fully Loaded and Dub fe Dub champs. In 2016 Klymaxx made their first appearance in the Canada rumble placing 3rd while gaining the respect of the fans with their energetic performance. Later on, in that same year, Klymaxx clashed against Blunt posse in a one vs one dubbed “BoarderLock Soundclash” it was a heated battle with many new tunes being played unfortunately due to time constraints it ended in a draw in tune for tune.
2017 saw the beginning of SoWhatSaturdayz The real Deal sounds weekly hot party in their home turf Durham, So what Saturdays is important to what Klymaxx does because it allows the sound to push the music to a broader audience growing the reach of Dancehall music in the community. Ending 2017 with a “BANG” is exactly what Klymaxx did winning the 2017 SoundRage Trophy in a lock-off performance against Yared and Xixgon sound. In 2018 Klymaxx the Real Deal once again entered Canadian Rumble only to be the runner up in a hard-fought Rapid Fire..
In 2019 Kymaxx would finally be victorious in the Canada rumble defeating Majestic Vybz in Rapid Fire to represent Canada in World Clash The End.. To date, the active Klymaxx members are Squidly, Specialist, Gary Taylor, Bugzy Killa & Fada Digital.
