Turning my Son a Lightsaber for Christmas
Still a turning project this week but not much wood, been meaning to make a lightsaber for the lad for a while now. Wood used in the handle is Sandalwood, rest is Aluminium. Might have to make myself one now.. purely for experimental purposes, not like I would spend my spare time wielding it around the workshop.
Apologies for the audio when using the metal lathe, it has an extremely loud high pitched drive unit on it so I have muted the audio as much as I can.

Woodturning - Something Completely Random
So a few weeks back I put a poll on the channel to see what people wanted to see me make, the most votes was for something "random", so here it is. You only have yourselves to blame :)
I bought the Tesla kit a few months back for a bit of fun, never actually planned to do anything with it, however can't see me getting anymore random than this.
Wood used is a piece of Oak I forgot to seal, hence all the cracks in it, would of only ended up as fire wood anyway. Cracks are filled with used ground coffee.
Never made this to sell, however if someone wants to make me an offer through my website I will consider it.

Woodturning - Turning this into a Desktop Speaker
This speaker is made from oak, a few pieces I have had for a while now, the main body of the speaker is made from a limb offcut, was hoping to keep some of the bark on but the woodworms have had a field day in this one and there was nothing left between the wood and the bark other than dust.
Finished in Danish Oil, each piece had 5 coats and then a quick buff.
The speakers used are from Dayton Audio and are from their DMA range and are 2", each speaker is matched with a DMA passive radiator. Amplifier is 2 x max 68W at 20V and uses the MA12070 chip, I'm running the amp at 19V which seems to match the speakers well after testing.
The music used in the testing of the speaker is available on Spotify in this link, thankyou Louis (Fifth Lucky Dragon) for letting me use this - https://open.spotify.com/track/1fnnF9zdLOOcigaciknghe?si=0f8e6cef8ed04683

Woodturning - The Ultimate Pinecone Coffee Mug
This weeks project is a custom order, I will however be making 5 of these this side of Christmas, details will be posted on my website tomorrow for anyone interested. Using a new method with these to cut down on the amount of resin used, plus its difficult to get a pinecone big enough and of the right shape to make these.

Woodturning - Just add Salt and Pepper
I've had these ceramic grinder inserts for sometime, just never got round to using them until now. Wanted to see how long these would take to see if they are worth putting on my website, these two will be on there as the trial pieces and then later on I will start offering these. Just wanted to narrow down the process of making them.
Wood is Apple covered in plenty of Burl, finished in shellac and then buffed. Resin is food safe resin.

Woodturning - It was supposed to be a water feature!
Started this one a few weeks back, the original idea was to make a water feature, after I thought I had finished and just needed to make a base and install a pump and then I changed my mind and turned it into a speaker.
The wood is Silver Birch which has started to spalt, I took this tree down myself and the log was sealed at both ends the same day which surprised me once I started turning how much spalting had taken place.
Finished in Danish oil, originally I was going to cover in Epoxy, however there was no need now as its made for inside.
Will have to let the speaker settle now for a few months and possibly rework the top, I've noticed a small amount of movement in the wood with the hot temperatures we have had recently, just goes to show wood is never as dry as you think.
Speaker is a 2" Dayton Audio with a 2" Passive at the base. Mono 30W Amp with Bluetooth.

Woodturning - Biggest Lamp I've ever turned!
Very large piece of sycamore turned into a lamp. The wood was turned green to begin with and carried a fair bit of weight, I would say somewhere between 60 to 70kg, the water was basically spraying out of this at the start. Once turned it was left to dry for a couple of months and finished off this last week.
Finished in one coat of Danish Oil.
The secret is in the top! Although not really a secret once you know its there..

Woodturning - Let there be light
What started out as an idea to make a small garden light ended up being a full lamp post. Apart from the top all the other wood was just off cuts left over from a roofing job.
Top is made from Sycamore, finished with a Wax oil.
