Working in the Lunch Tavern for a SCA Event | Medieval Reenactment
On Saturday, I helped out in the kitchen at a SCA (medieval reenactment) event with making breakfast and lunch. It was a success and lots of fun!

For the lunch, I taught the lunch staff how to make Dragon Tails (meatballs and cheese baked into bread). Plus, I also made cookies (snickerdoodle and gluten-free chocolate chip)! The lunch also included a choice of drink, a choice of fruit, and a bag of chips. The meal was not necessarily medieval, but it worked within the limited budget and made lots of people quite happy and full!

Coin Striking Assembly Line | Making Homemade Brass Coins for a Medieval Event
My blacksmith husband made homemade dies to make coins with to use as site tokens at a SCA event (medieval reenactment). First, to make the die, my husband pounds the image in with punches. Then, one die is set on the bottom side, a blank coin is put in the middle (cold brass is too hard, so the brass was first heated up with fire so that a better impression could be made when striking the coin), and the other die is put on the top side. Once this is set up, he takes a hammer and beats the impression into the coin. Voilà, a coin has been made!

How to Be a Royal Retainer for a King, Queen, Prince, or Princess | In the SCA
Being a Royal Retainer for a King, Queen, Prince, or Princess is a job that I enjoy doing at any SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) event that I attend. If you are interested in what all this job entails, please follow along!
❤️ SUBSCRIBE IF YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO AND WANT MORE ❤️
A royal retainer is a volunteer service position that you can sign up for doing 1 or 2 hour shifts at an event where there will be royalty. For the shift that is selected, you are that specific Royal's assistant. This means that you will be responsible for items like carrying their bag and/or their cup, writing down contact information if they receive a gift, and more. However, there are also perks to being a retainer too!

Log Roll Challenge Competition at Paula Deen's Lumberjack Feud
Paula Deen's Lumberjack Feud is quite entertaining for all ages! This Log Roll competition was for the best out of 3 rolls. This video was for the 3rd log roll, as both men had won 1 and lost 1.

To Make a Prince Bisket | 17th Century Caraway Seed Muffin Recipe from 1609
A delicious and easy to make receipt from the early 17th century: Prince Biskets! The original recipe was first published in 1609 in the Delightes for Ladies by Hugh Plat. This is a modern interpretation of that recipe.
❤️ SUBSCRIBE IF YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO AND WANT MORE ❤️
Modern Interpretation:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 Tbsp caraway seeds
2 tsp rose water
3/4 cup flour
Instructions:
Combine all of the ingredients together and beat together for about 1 hour. Spray pan well and fill a baking pan with ¼ inch mixture. Bake at 325ºF for 14 minutes, or until the mixture has risen and turns gold brown.
Original Receipt:
Take one pound of very fine flower, and one pound of fine sugar, and eight egges, and two spoonfuls of Rose water, and one ounce of Carroway seeds, and beat it all to batter one whole hour: for the more you beat it, the better your bread is; then bake it in coffins, of white plate, being basted with a little butter before you put in your batter, and so keepe it. Renaissance Festival or Medieval Reenactment (SCA): What is the Difference?
What is the difference between a Renaissance Festival or an event held by the Society for Creative Anachronism (or other medieval reenactment event)?
❤️ SUBSCRIBE IF YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO AND WANT MORE ❤️
If you have heard of either a Renaissance Festival and/or a medieval reenactment event, but don't know necessarily know the difference between them, then this video will help to explain the differences for you.
A Renaissance Festival is typically a 16th century European recreated town with paid performers providing entertainment and pageantry, with spectators paying an entry fee to watch the festivities. Renaissance Festivals only happen for a set time at a set location per year.
The Society for Creative Anachronism (also known as the SCA) is an international, non-profit educational organization that studies and recreates the medieval and Renaissance eras (pre-17th century). The SCA has many different events in different locations throughout the year.

1615 Recipe:
Original Recipe:
To make the best Pancakes, take two or three Eggs, and break them into a dish, and beat them well; then add unto them a pretty quantity of fair running Water, and beat all well together: then put in Cloves, Mace, Cinnamon and Nutmeg, and season it with Salt; which done, make it as thick as you think good with fine Wheat-flower, then fry the Cakes as thin as may be with sweet butter, or sweet seam, and make them brown, and so serve them up with Sugar, strewed upon them. There be some which mix Pancakes with new Milk or Cream, but that makes them tough, cloying, and not so crisp, pleasant and savory as running water.
Modern Recipe Interpretation:
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp ground clove
1/4 tsp ground mace
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups flour
butter for the pan (melted)
sugar (for sprinkling on top)
Mix the ingredients together. Heat the pan on medium low heat.
Yield: 12 pancakes
