Giving up food seems almost as bad as giving up air! So maybe that’s why a lot people (myself included) have promoted giving up other things instead of food. It’s good to give up other things, but unfortunately biblical fasting is about denying ourselves food or at least certain kinds of food. Ughh! Sorry to deflate your balloon! BONNIE: How is [it] for you when you have to let them go? CHERYL: It’s, umm, heart wrenching…. There’s been times when I’ve collapsed on the floor, umm you know, because my heart was crushed…. but that’s part of it. I’m the adult. I can handle that with God’s help. We get through it. One of the things, a pet peeve I should say, is when people say, “I could never do that. I could never let them go.” So, let’s back up. What does that really mean? So, are you saying you can’t handle your heart breaking. So, because you can’t handle your heart breaking, you’re not going to provide a…safe home for the child and nurture the child and love the child? Okay, is that what you’re saying? Are you saying that my heart is hardened because I can handle it and I’ve done it over 60 times?... I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, what you mean by “I could never do that. My heart would break. I could never give them back.” BONNIE: I never thought of it, never approached it that way, that we need to be bigger than that, that it’s more important, that their needs are more important than a heartbreak we have to deal with. CHERYL: I hope what they mean is, “I don’t know how you do it, it’s so hard.” But what we hear is, “I’m not willing to.” This was part of our video and gives you a glimpse into the depth of the topic. Can God effect a cure for all the disharmony and disorder in our lives? Can He do everything He has promised in His Word or has spoken to our hearts? We need to believe that He can and will, even when we don’t see it. Romans 4 says of Abraham that “In hope against hope he believed” (NASB 1995). Now that’s a bit confusing, isn’t it!? “In hope against hope.” What??? When there was no hope in the natural – according to the world we live in, according to the normal way of things, according to everything that Abraham could see with his physical eyes – PRAISE THE LORD, he still had hope! And God followed through with exactly what He had promised. That’s what we need to do today. Bring everything to the Lord and KNOW that He is capable and willing, even WORKING THIS VERY DAY for His glory and our good. God can faithfully lead us. Be faithfully led today! “Keep your spirit life calm and unruffled. Nothing else matters.” This is a quote from God Calling (link in Description). Does that sound impossible to you? We live in a complex, chaotic, crisis-filled world. Years ago we didn’t have technological access to all the latest news and weren't overrun with texts, emails and the latest offer to everything under the sun. Life was DEFINITELY more SIMPLE. We paid our rent/mortgage, electric, phone and heat bills. By check. We didn’t have multiple options to choose from like we do now. Even the grocery store shelves weren’t so full of this and that, and health gurus weren’t around every corner promoting conflicting roads to health. Just sayin. Life was simpler. Even relationships are more complex. Mine, yours, ours. Here, there. The school week, the weekend. Court battles. Schools that push anti-biblical ideas. It’s a crazy world. Governments that cannot be trusted. You get the picture. Is it even possible to keep calm and unruffled? I fall short at times, but the devotional I’ll be reading from today says it’s possible! Do you feel like Humpty Dumpty? Maybe you had a great fall. Or perhaps you feel like you’re coming apart at the seams. Here is the bad news, Mother Goose’s version: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall; All the king's horses and all the king's men Couldn't put Humpty together again. But here is the good news. God has a whole different version of the old Mother Goose rhyme. We don’t need all the king’s horses or men. God can put our lives back together and bring wholeness back to our broken, scattered, coming apart, void, formless lives. Just like the Holy Spirit hovered over the void in Genesis and formed the heavens and the earth, Peace can hover over us. We can be embraced and overshadowed (hovered over) by divine peace. PEACE puts things BACK TOGETHER! In the Greek, peace come from the word eiro, which means to bring the pieces together to make them whole again. Peace joins. Peace ties together. However, we need to come before the Lord to receive that peace. We have to stop our frenzy long enough to let peace settle in around us. Let’s come before the Lord today to receive His peace. May I share a failure with you? You will learn some things TO DO and some things NOT TO DO. Please watch instead of just listening because there are several places where I give important written tips. So, I started out to make 2 loaves of whole wheat bread and ended up with one sickly loaf and one batch of cinnamon buns that tasted great but didn't rise as much as they should have. I am working hard at perfecting a soft, pliable whole wheat bread where my dear, sweet, patient husband's sandwiches will not crumble! Learn with me. Or, give me tips. Why whole wheat? Why homemade? Watch to see! Don't be discouraged if you are still eating white bread. If you aren't ready to move into freshly milled bread, you can take the step to move to store-bought 100% whole wheat bread. Make sure it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it. Then, try your hand at buying a package of whole wheat flour and make some homemade bread. Preservative free is a step in the right direction! If you want to go all in, put a grain mill on your Christmas list (include birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day and make it a year-long gift). Monday Minutes on Tuesday! Have you heard anything recently about a leader who acquired wealth by illegal means? Sounds like he and his offspring were quite busy beavers. Might be nice if he was spending that much time actually leading. Correctly. Justly. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being wealthy within God's plan for your life. Or, at least, being taken care of. Being given raises to keep up with inflation and out of respect for the work you’ve been doing. Being taken care of with benefits. God is pleased when workers at all levels are taken care of to the best of the employer’s ability. Or, when the self-employed advance as they follow His leading. But when leaders (or workers of any sort) are more interested in acquiring wealth than in doing their job well and fulfilling God’s plan for their lives, He is not pleased. Let’s watch what we are striving for. Righteous leading. Faithful service. God will take care of us even if our employer doesn’t seem to value our hard work. He will reward our faithful service in some other way if He needs to. LEAD and WORK as unto the LORD, not unto men! Let him bring you the provision He desires, in His way! Can you get TOO MUCH of a good thing? God seems to think so. Solomon returned to forbidden fruit so to speak. God wanted him to leave behind AND NEVER RETURN TO Egypt. For horses. Or for anything. But his eyes were on the prize horses of Egypt. I WANT IT, AND I’LL HAVE IT seemed to be Solomon’s life motto. Sometimes God says to cut our ties, burn our bridges. Even to something that is highly prized or valued in the world’s eyes, like the horses of Egypt were in Solomon’s time. However, we entertain thoughts of return. We put one foot over the line, or just one big toe. That one big toe too often leads to being fully immersed in whatever we were to LEAVE BEHIND. What is God calling you to leave behind today? It’s not always something bad. Horses weren’t BAD. Sometimes God wants us to leave behind a season, or a person, or a dream, or a place. Whether bad or good, we must leave it behind. Draw a line in the sand today and never cross back over it. If God says leave it, leave it. Move ahead. No, it wasn't Rehoboam with White Powder in the Palace Library (or wherever) like the CLUE game. What we find is that Rehoboam was clueless. His foolishness in listening to his companions rather than the elders rocked the kingdom of Israel. We need to take our own lessons from this, though, because we are capable of making life-changing foolish decisions of our own. Proverbs 29:2 tells us that godly leaders bring rejoicing but that wicked leaders bring groaning. Each of us is a leader of some sort, if only in charge of our daily activities.
