Red's musical style has been described as Christian metal, brutal death metal,alternative metal, groove metal, deathcore, nu metal, govno metal, metalcore, hardcore punk, trap metal, crust punk and boogie rock (early). They were influenced by Hanoi Rocks, Benediction, Massakre, Soundgarden, Melvins, Nirvana, The Beatles, Atrophy and Mother Love Bone.

In this Artist Spotlight, Brian highlights the incredible Whittaker brothers, better known as Flight Paths. Dan (vocals, guitar, and bass) and John (drums) bring an amazing sound that mixes crisp clean vocals with fantastic guitars and drums and top notch song writing. Kobra and the Lotus was formed by classical singer Kobra Paige. The band started recording their first songs in Calgary, initially produced by Greg Godovitz (Goddo). Kobra and the Lotus put the initial studio tracks on MySpace in summer 2009. They were subsequently discovered by Metal Hammer and approached to include Kobra Paige in the 2010 Metal Hammer Maidens of Metal Calendar with Simone Simons of Epica and Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. The band recorded the first album Out of the Pit in Calgary in early 2009. During the mixing of the album at Metalworks Studios in Toronto, producer Greg Godovitz invited long time friend Rik Emmett to record a guitar solo to the only cover song on the album, a remake of Motörhead anthem Ace of Spades. After playing their first 2009 Canadian tour, Paige's vocal style had changed significantly and the band approached Kevin Shirley to rerecord the vocals and remix the album. Originally hailing from Lufkin, Texas, Dave competed on America's Got Talent, reaching the semifinals. He was able to capitalize on this impressive showing by moving to Nashville and becoming an extremely successful singer and songwriter. He continues to grow his Youtube presence, gain fans by the legion, and share the stage with superstars like Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley! At a young age, Dave showed an aptitude for learning melodies and lyrics. As a child, he sang with the children’s choir in his Southern Baptist church while his father sang bass in the “big choir.” His father Elton would sing in the home all the time and teach Dave harmonies to all the “good” country songs on the radio. Dave also joined the choir in his elementary school and stayed with it till high school. In high school, his family moved to Canada, so Dave had a whole different set of influences. No longer surrounded by only country music, Dave found that he loved anything with soul. Starting with Boyz II Men, Dave back tracked to artists like Otis Redding, Ray Charles, and Percy Sledge. Thats when Dave really started using his voice. He began writing songs at the age of fifteen and picked up a guitar at 18. There was no stopping him after that. He taught himself how to play songs he loved and would perform them at bars before he was even legal to drink alcohol. The next decade was just Dave honing his craft, figuring out what type of artist he would be, and learning that he loved every kind of music. He had a “genre-free philosophy” for his shows so the audience would always be surprised by what would come next. Dave’s talent with an audience did not go unnoticed. He has shared the stage with musical royalty like Dwight Yoakam, Miranda Lambert, and Dierks Bentley. Dave currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and writes songs for a living.

After a few gigs with various vocalists, they found the singer and frontman Nils Molin through Myspace in Spring of 2008. Since then, Dynazty has released eight full-length albums and has toured in Sweden and internationally. In 2013, Dynazty signed a record deal with Spinefarm Records for their fourth studio album Renatus (Latin for "Rebirth"). This record not only marked a change in the band's sound, and line-up, but lyrical themes as well, instead of focusing on common '80s rock themes such partying and freedom, it included deeper lyrics that concern mortality and spirituality, as well as incorporating religious imagery and themes. The album included one single, "Starlight". In 2016 the band released another album, Titanic Mass, which continued with the band's new more melodic direction, and mature deep lyrical themes. This album again included one single, "The Human Paradox". This was also their last release on Spinefarm. In July 2017, Swedish heavy metal band Amaranthe stated on their Facebook page that Nils Molin would join the band as their permanent vocalist, after filling in for Jake E on tour dates while continuing to sing for Dynazty simultaneously. On 21 July 2018, it was announced that Dynazty had signed to AFM Records. On 27 July, the single "Breathe with Me" was released, the first of three singles from their sixth album Firesign, which was released on 28 September 2018.

Brian is here today with a little different take on an Artist Spotlight. Today, we focus on the well known actor Jensen Ackles, who in addition to having prominent roles in shows such as "Smallville" and "Dark Angel", is of course best known for his starring role as Dean Winchester in the CW smash hit series "Supernatural". What we were pleasantly surprised to find out is that Jensen is also a fantastic musician as well! Jensen joined forces with fellow accomplished musician Steve Carlson to form the blues/soul duo Radio Company in 2018, after a decade and a half of writing music and performing live together. "Forgiven" was released as the second single on March 17, 2017. On September 19, 2018, Crowder announced a third solo album and released the first two singles, "Red Letters" and "Wildfire". The album, I Know a Ghost, was released on November 9, 2018. In autumn 2021 - spring 2022, Crowder toured in the USA.

Born Diamante Azzura Bovelli in Boston, MA, Diamante released her debut EP "Dirty Blonde" in 2015. She also released her first LP "Coming in Hot" with Better Noise Records in 2018. She currently is working on a ton of fantastic independent music, and we're excited to see what the future holds for the blue haired beauty! In today's episode, Brian shines the spotlight on an artist that is a little different than we usually highlight, and talks about the amazing Californian folk singer, AVI KAPLAN. You may be familiar with that name from his time with the famous pop acapella group Pentatonix, whom he left in 2017 to strike out on his own. He has a fantastic deep baritone voice that perfectly melds with his superior lyrical storytelling, giving us a truly unique sound that mixes folk, western, and old time spirituals. To give you an idea of his sound, I would classify it as a melting pot of John Denver, Bon Iver, Gordon Lightfoot, and White Buffalo. Signed to Fantasy Records, and at times going by the full band name Avriel and the Sequoias, Avi has to date released two EPs: Sage & Stone (2017) and I'll Get By (2020). Like many of the top artists of today, Avi releases alternative acoustic style versions of his own songs in addition to the original cuts. In this Spotlight, Brian discusses the outstanding hard rock band from Los Angeles, Liliac. Liliac is comprised of the five young Cristea siblings: Melody (lead vocals and guitar), Samuel (lead guitar), Abigail (drums), Ethan (bass), and Justin (keyboards). This family knows how to bring the heat, with a hard hitting sound that is reminiscent of metal legends like Metallica and Ronnie James Dio. As an independent band managed by the father Florin Cristea, LILIAC has grinded through the murky waters of the music industry to build a strong and growing fanbase. Today, Brian shines the spotlight on an amazing up and coming rock band based out of Paris, France, Halflives! Led by the beautiful voice of frontwoman Linda Battilani, Halflives has a unique, enchanting sound that can have you dancing one moment, and then bring you to tears the next.
