How to Make a DIY Porch Swing - Welded Steel and Built to Last!
Welding a steel porch swing to replace my old pallet wood porch swing. In the video I'll show how I welded the basic frame, painted the steel and added composite fence boards as the decking.
Overall it was a quick and simple build and turned out great! Hopefully it'll inspire you to tackle a similar project!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - The Frame (part 1)
Today I'm starting the travel trailer project and welding the frame together to create the basic shell of the trailer. I'm going for something between a teardrop trailer and a full size camp trailer!
Stay tuned as this project transforms from this base frame to a full fledged aluminum clad roadworthy camping companion.
Please let me know if you have any questions :)

Dreaming of Tomorrow - Arizona Trail Hike
Hiking through the amazing landscape of the Arizona Trail with my friend Tristan from @SUV RVing and dreaming about thru-hiking the entire 800 miles in the near future. The passage we took was Reavis Canyon (AZT passage 18), which is on the east side of the Superstition Mountains. This section of the trail is incredibly diverse, spanning from Oak and Juniper mountains to giant Saguaros in the desert! Please let me know if you'd be interested in seeing a series where I hike the whole thing!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

In the next video I will be building a travel cabinet for Tristan's SUV RVing adventures. Check out his channel here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC07IPCu6BQGWh0Fdk9Q2Z2w/videos
And here is the video I did in January where Tristan and I hiked a remote canyon looking for hidden native American cliff dwellings!

Shipping Container Shop: A Small STEP Forward
The Shipping Container Shop just might have its most boring element installed today.... a simple concrete ramp/step going into the workshop. But it does represent a step forward into this little creative maker space that I'm slowly building. In the video I'll show you the steps I took to pour this little ramp/step and then I'll talk about what's to come next in the Shipping Container Shop Project as well as other projects that I have planned.

Incredible Camping in a Rock Wonderland - DIY Travel Trailer Project
We took the DIY Travel Trailer to one of the most amazing camp spots we've ever been too! This Rock Wonderland is in southeastern Arizona in an area called Texas Canyon, just north of the Dragoon Mountains and the famous Cochise Stronghold area. We hiked to a natural arch, hopped from rock to rock, climbed and just had a great time. I also talk about some upcoming projects for the DIY Travel Trailer and even got some pretty cool drone footage worked in. Hope you enjoy!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer: 12V Electrical, lithium battery (Part 10)
Today I'm installing and touring the 12v electrical system in the DIY Travel Trailer Project. I'll cover how I made the wiring connections, setup the fuse panel, ran the circuits, lithium battery connections, led lights, 12v cooler, ventilation fan and lots of other little things here and there.
Up next in the project will be installing the solar panels which will bring the project to a usable point to take it camping. There will still be lots of side projects for the travel trailer, like a slide out kitchen, awning, bath cabinet, etc,.... But until those projects get under way it should be more camping and using it than watching it get built ;)

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Aluminum Exterior and more (Part 2)
Part 2 of the How to build a DIY Travel Trailer Project. Adding the window framing, additional support structure, wheel wells, flooring, aluminum siding with VHB tape and more! ... oh yes, and I beef up the trailer tongue a bit too!
Please let me know if you have any questions :)

Big thanks to Industrial Metal Supply for partnering with me and supplying some of the steel for this project! Check them out online or one of their awesome stores!
https://www.industrialmetalsupply.com/
Note about the tape: The VHB tape I used for this project was CV62f and CV45F. It is very expensive, upwards of $100 per roll at most places I found. I ended up purchasing it from SRI-Supplies.com for about $50/per roll.. which was the best price I found anywhere. I paid full price and did not get a discount but just wanted to mention it in case anyone is looking for it and haven't found a good affordable source for it :)

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Dinette, Bed, Cabinets and more (Part 6)
Today I'm building the front convertible dinette and sleeping area in the DIY Travel Trailer Project. The Dinette includes a table with seating that converts to a bed and also has a drawer and some flip up storage under the seating. I also added some vinyl flooring and cabinets above the dinette that will also double as the distribution area for the 12V wiring.
Next up on the Travel trailer project will be to run the 12v wiring, add interior lighting, add a coupler and weight distribution/sway control, and finally build the kitchen area. After that will be to take her camping!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

Rain Roof - Rainwater Harvesting Project - How To
Building a Rain Roof as another option to harvest rainwater for home, garden or livestock use. Specifically this is set up for my rainwater garden area but could be used for just about anything.
This project started out originally as a roofing test prop I made to conduct a desert roofing test. Once that was done, the goal was to make the existing framework into a rainwater collection project. I show the conversion of the test prop into the current roofing configuration, how it works, a little about the rainwater garden area and then I try to answer some questions about the project.
Please let me know if you have any questions :)
Joe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9vkNagKOas
NOTE regarding changes in the rainwater garden fruit trees. If the trees in the middle section look different than the original project video, that is because those were lost due to a javelina event. Haha... yes, sounds weird. But the quick story is that during one of our dry spells we had a pack of javelina root up and eat many of the moist roots of those trees. Consequently, we ended up loosing 3 trees (apricot, peach, fig) Currently, although not during the video (because it's ugly...lol), I have a wire fence ring around them to protect from the same type of event.

Making Liquid Laundry Soap - How to
We finally ran out of laundry detergent and figured we'd try our hand at making our own liquid laundry soap with washing soda, borax, and a bar of Dr. Bronners castile soap. After a few loads of laundry we are really pleased with the results and think this is both a great savings and an easy to make, lower chemical soap than we could buy at the store. The recipe we are using is from wellnessmama.com.

Welding Table Upgrades - Plasma cutting, slide outs, drawers...
My DIY welding table / workbench got some upgrades! I'll go over the clamping grid/holes, slide outs, plasma cutting insert, Ikea tool cabinet mod, as well as the general dimensions of the main components to the welding table. Hopefully this will answer some of the many questions i'm often asked about the table! But if not... please let me know if you have any more :)

Shipping Container Shop Awning - UPGRADE (pt 1 of 2)
Today I'm starting the new, 2.0 version of the Shipping Container Shop Awning. The new version will use a steel structure and have 2 posts versus the original awning that I built with an old mining pallet, which had 3 posts. I'll show the removal of the old awning and also be pouring new footers for the new steel framing.
So why am I redoing this? Well, there was nothing really 'wrong' with the original version, but I never really liked the middle post being right in front of the main door. And with the removal and replacement of my old hail damaged roofing on the shop, it was the perfect time to rethink this crucial awning space of the shipping container shop.
I can't say that tearing down a shop awning and pouring concrete footers will be exciting... but maybe it will be sorta interesting????
haha ;)
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.
Joe

Rainwater Harvesting with IBC Tote and Tarp - Wildlife Waterer
DIY rainwater harvesting wildlife waterer using an IBC tote, billboard tarp and an automatic watering dish. This definitely isn't fancy, but it is a good budget option for someone looking to harvest rainwater for animals, livestock or a small garden plot.
NOTE: I was really hoping to have some rainwater footage for this one but just didn't have rains that I could capture when I was filming this. BUT if you check out my 'rainwater tarp project' you can see rain footage and a better description of how it works. Here are some links to those videos.

Rain Roof for my Rainwater Wildlife Waterer Project
Today I'm upgrading from a rainwater collection tarp to a rain roof on my wildlife waterer project from last year. The project has been a great addition to our property for the past year , providing water not only to local desert wildlife, but also to our dog Olive. I'll take you through how the system works and the upgrade process from using a billboard tarp as the collection surface to the rain roof setup. And if you listen closely... you'll here about how the structure of this rain roof has a connection to my wife's very first drive in movie. Strange, yes... but true.
For those that have further questions about how this system works, check out my rainwater tarp videos or my rainwater QA video.

Culvert Cistern Install - catching rain off the Shop!
Installing a culvert cistern to catch rainwater off the shipping container shop roof. I go over the basic steps of the formwork, pouring the concrete, setting the cistern and running the gutters, plumbing and the overflow. It's a bit of work but I think the effort result in one of the coolest looking cisterns/tanks you could have sitting by your house... if you're into that kinda thing;)
Here are the links to the other videos I mentioned and the Culvert Cistern video course that Derek (DIYhomesteadprojects) and I put together on installing one of these unique looking cisterns.

Laminated Workbench Top - How To Make (shipping container shop)
Making a laminated workbench top for the shipping container shop with standard lumber and basic tools! This is only half of the workbench project but I think it is a good "how to" of rather unconventional methods to make a laminated or butcherblock style work surface or table top. No special woodworking tools needed. No jointer, no biscuits, no planer, no pipe clamps... no problem ;)
... but I guess a table saw is sorta special...but it doesn't have to be a fancy one.. mine was $100 on craigslist!!
I had limited time to do this, so the rest of the workbench will be coming in a few weeks. Let me know if you have any questions:)

Off Road Go Kart - How to Build
Building a DIY off road Go Kart from steel tubing, online plans and a lot of welding! This was definitely the most amount of welding I've ever done on one single project. A lot of work but So Much Fun! And it even works... despite my best efforts ;)
This was such a fun project and I was happy to have the opportunity to partner with Forney Industries on this build! Go check out their awesome line of welders, plasma cutters and other metal working products! https://www.forneyind.com/
Plans used for this build were purchased from SpiderCarts.com https://www.spidercarts.com/downloads/granddaddy-go-kart-plans/

DIY Battery Tool Box Build - Travel Trailer Project
Building the aluminum battery / tool box for the front of the Travel Trailer. This was my first time welding aluminum with a spool gun and bending/forming sheet metal of this thickness. So there was quite a bit of trial and error learning, but overall I'm really happy with the result!
The primary purpose of the box will be to house my 12v batteries, 12v wiring and some other tools at the front of the Travel Trailer. But I'm sure I might find some other uses as well :D
Please let me know if you have any questions :)
Joe
Big thanks to Industrial Metal Supply and Forney Industries for partnering with me on this project! Forney Industries supplied the spool gun to use for welding the aluminum. And Industrial Metal Supply supplied the aluminum diamond plate.
Check them out for all sorts of welding and metal working products!
