Slide-out Truck Storage Box - How to Make a Vehicle Storage System
Today I'm building a slide-out truck storage box for the area under the rear seat of my truck (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500). In the video I'll show how I built the framework to fit in the under seat space, installed drawer slides, added handles and locking hardware, trimmed with aluminum, and tour what I will be storing in the box for general and emergency vehicle use.
And while I built this storage system for a truck, the general techniques can be applied to any vehicle. A little organization will not only keep your vehicle more tidy, but also enable you to keep some road side emergency supplies available in the event that you need them!
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions!
-Joe

The Saw Blade Knife - How to Make a Knife from a Saw blade
Thanks to Worksharp and the Drill Doctor for sponsoring this Saw Blade to Knife Build!
Today I'm building a custom knife from an old circular saw blade with no tempering required! In the video I go over how I cut out the knife blank from the saw blade, ground the blade profile, built the handle and sharpened it to an edge that will cut paper! This was a super fun build and hope it inspires you to make something new out of something old ;)

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Slide Out Kitchen (Part 13)
Thanks to the Home Depot Prospective and Ryobi Power tools for partnering on this build!
Back to the DIY Travel Trailer Project with a Slideout Kitchen build! This will serve as an outdoor cooking station and dining/food prep area for the trailer. I think this would be a great project for a van conversion, trailer build or for an overlanding SUV! In the video I go over the basic framing with pocket holes, aluminum trim, drawer glides, hinges, hardware installation, and even a little bottle opener cap catching set up! I hope it may give you some ideas or inspiration for your own project :)
Let me know if you have any questions! - Joe
NOTE: I mention in the video that there are about 20 videos on this trailer build, but this is listed as part 13. Why? Well, that is because some of the other ones like the trailer lock, battery box, bumper/stabilizers, etc,... were done as 'side projects' to the main build. Not sure why I did that but they should all be in the 'DIY Travel Trailer Project' playlist ;)

How to Build HALF a Workbench - Paulk Inspired - Part 1, The TOP
Thanks to the Home Depot Prospective and Ryobi Power tools for partnering on this build!
Today I’m building a Ron Paulk inspired DIY workbench top... yes, just the top for now. This will be the first step of a full workbench build, but with the ability to use the top, on saw horses, until I finalize my design for the lower portion of the bench.
The rigid nature of Ron Paulk’s torsion box design will make this great as a workbench, assembly table, outfeed table or just about whatever else you might need a workbench for!
In the video I will go over cutting the plywood, drilling /cutting out the access ports, assembling the frame, adding a grid of clamping holes, adding a final finish…. and my eventual plans for the lower half of this workbench ☺
Let me know if you have any questions! - Joe

Random But Useful - A Container Shop Project
Today I’m working on a ‘Random but Useful’ project for Shipping Container Shop. A ‘Rotating Thread Checker’ made out of some old reference boards I was given a few years ago. Unnecessary and random…. Yes. But something that will be useful and look cool in the shop? Also yes!
And let me know if you’d like to see more of these smaller style random projects. I think these kinds of projects let us get creative, try new techniques or even utilize those odds bits and pieces of things we’ve been collecting for a while. And I think they can be just plain fun too!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

The Good, the Bad.... and the Ugly Critters of Rural Life
Country living, like anything, has its good and bad. In this video I talk about what I see as the pro's of living in a rural setting as well as negatives that folks need to consider if they want a slice of the quiet life!
Topics include everything from increased liberty, safety in pandemics, building self reliance..... To things like general inconveniences, lack of emergency services, and others things that might not appealing to everyone.
NOTE: there are a few benefits that I forgot to cover...haha.... not sure why. But they include things like growing food, foraging, solar, alternative construction, etc,. But I'll just lump those into the "liberty" section in that you have the freedom to do more of these types of things in the country.

When purchased used they offer affordable, sturdy, mouse proof, versatile shop storage for less than building something similar. I picked these 3 file cabinets off of craigslist for a total of $36. And likely, building something similar would cost more than that just in the cost of the plywood and drawer glides.... much more!
In the video I'll also talk about some of the cons of using file cabinets like these.... but overall I feel they have many more benefits than drawbacks :)

Traditional Vs Modern Shaving
Thank you to Dollar Shave Club for Sponsoring this video!
https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/homesteadonomics
Hey guys! Today we’re gonna be taking a sharp look at one of my edgiest hobbies....traditional shaving! Yes, those old school techniques of shaving with a safety razor, straight razor, shaving brush and a puck of shaving soap!
But it’s going to be way more than just that. I’m going to be comparing the traditional shaving practices of the past with that of modern shaving equipment and products. Which is better? Well, that depends on many factors. Both options offer unique benefits as well as cost savings over more conventional options you might find on store shelves.
In the video I’ll give you a tour of my traditional assortment of safety razors, straight razors, brushes, soaps and then show you how I use them. Then I’ll test out the offerings and service of Dollar Shave Club and how it can fit into the daily grooming routine of a traditional shaving enthusiast like myself!
I hope this video gives you an informative look at two different shaving options and what might work best for your needs. I personally see value in both traditional shaving as well as Dollar Shave Club’s offerings.
Thanks again to Dollar Shave Club for being open to my crazy idea of making a video focused on old school shaving techniques and equipment!

How to Build a DIY Bat House!
How to build a DIY Bat House from start to finish! Not only was this a fun project that resulted in a cool looking bat habitat, but it also served as a very good learning opportunity for my daughter! She researched about all the varieties of bats, habitats, food sources, their role in the natural cycle, benefits to local ecosystems, and so many other amazing facts! And to be honest I learned way more than I even could have imagined on bats too... super cool little creatures!
If you are looking for a cool project to do with the kids or grandkids, or even just yourself.... definitely give it a look! See below for a link to the batcon.org plans we used as a guide for our bat house!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Porta Potty Cabinet (Part 12)
Back to the DIY Travel Trailer project with another build! Today I'm building a Porta Potty / general storage cabinet for the trailer. This would be a great project for a van conversion, trailer build or for a renovation project! In the video I go over the basic framing with pocket holes, aluminum trim, counter tops, painting, hinges, hardware installation, and all the mistakes I made too! I hope it may give you some ideas or inspiration for your own project :)

Home Auto in a Tiny Shop - Tow Hitch Install ( 2013 Chevy Silverado )
Today I'm installing a tow hitch/receiver on my 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. This may not be the most exciting of projects, but I think it's a good example that many automotive repairs and vehicle upgrades can be accomplished without having to take your vehicle to an auto shop or a mechanic. A simple socket set and borrowing a torque wrench were the only necessities that I needed for this install. And stay tuned until the to see the next few projects coming up!
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Solar Panel Install (Part 11)
Today I'm installing 370 watts of flexible solar panels on the DIY Travel Trailer Project! In the video I'll show how I ran the solar wiring, installed the flexible solar panels, made the charge controller / battery connections, and ran everything in the trailer off of just solar and battery power. This represents the last major step in the build to make the trailer off grid capable and usable for camping!
..... But for those of you who have been enjoying this project, do not worry, there are still plenty of things that I have planned to add to this trailer in the coming year! A DIY awning, slide out kitchen, outdoor shower, interior bath area, etc,... just to name a few!
I also want to give a huge thank you to Sunflare Solar for donating two samples of their flexible solar panels for this project. They were super easy to install and I think represent the future of solar in both their design and manufacturing process. Sunflare is primarily a solar panel manufacturer for OEM Companies, but they do offer distribution through OK4WD.com. Here is a link to the sunflare panels

Welding and MetalWorking: Q&A
Today I'm answering some of the most common questions I get regarding my welding and metal working projects. I go over things like the best welder for beginners, removing rust, fixed and auto darkening welding masks, the paint I use for metal projects, and several others. Hopefully these my answer some of the questions that you may have had when watching some of my projects.
Also, please remember that I'm not a professional welder and these are just my opinions. But I hope that they might be helpful in some way!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

Petroglyphs and Pottery - A Backyard Adventure
Taking a little family adventure to see some native american petroglyphs and searching for native american pottery along the way. This was only a short hike from our house but nonetheless a great way to spend the day and learn a little about the native american peoples that lived here before us.
Perhaps you might have some similar heritage in your local area that might provide a small little educational adventure for you and your family. Maybe its something like this or perhaps an interesting building or historical site. I'd bet there is something very interesting near you that is worth a visit!

DIY Travel Trailer: First Trip!
This is the first inaugural camping trip in the DIY Travel Trailer! In all, we travelled 700+ miles in the DIY Travel Trailer and believe it or not... nothing broke! The solar panels and 12v system were able to keep the Dometic cooler, charging station and led lights all in full operation during the whole trip! No leaks or any repairs were needed either.... but I did take about 40lbs of extra tools, screws, tapes, glues, etc,.... just incase I needed to repair something along the way;)
We are super thankful that all went smoothly and we were able to enjoy the trailer after quite a long build. And very thankful for you guys watching this build progress from a used axle all the way to a travel trailer. Join us as we do our normal camping activities.... fishing, foraging, campfire cooking, meadow golf, relaxation and more!
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions! - Joe

How We Prep for Wildfires - Prevention, Protection and Escape
Preparing a home to be more resistant to wildfires isn't complex. But it does require some effort and due diligence to implement preventative measures. In the video I cover defensible space, tree/vegetation maintenance, fire breaks and the importance of having clean gutters. I also address what we do in the event that there is a wildfire in our area, from preparations of leaving our home to circumstances in which we might consider staying.
And it SHOULD go without saying, but NOTHING is guaranteed, and obviously there are circumstances when no amount of preparation and defensive measures will help..... and in those cases you should ALWAYS err on the side of caution and leaving to a place of safety.
As is life, nothing is guaranteed.... BUT, we can and should take steps to implement preventative strategies and protect our homes BEFORE a wildfire is imminent.

Hiking a Hidden Arizona Canyon with SUV RVing: It was truly another world!
Hiking a hidden and remote canyon in Arizona's backcountry in search of some Native American ruins. Although the hike is a relatively short distance, it is known for being incredibly steep with difficult terrain. On this day, we encountered waterfalls caused by snowmelt and recent rains, which really added to the beauty of this rugged canyon. However, these waterfalls and seasonal water flows also made for super slick rock and ultimately shortened our hike prior to getting to the ruins. But it was still a great adventure in an unbelievably beautiful desert canyon!
Here is the video I mentioned by Jerry Arizona https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgWxV92Hap4&t=270s
