Welding and MetalWorking: Q&A
Today I'm answering some of the most common questions I get regarding my welding and metal working projects. I go over things like the best welder for beginners, removing rust, fixed and auto darkening welding masks, the paint I use for metal projects, and several others. Hopefully these my answer some of the questions that you may have had when watching some of my projects.
Also, please remember that I'm not a professional welder and these are just my opinions. But I hope that they might be helpful in some way!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

DIY Leather Bow Quiver - Traditional Archery
Today I'm adding some custom leather work to a Selway Archery bow quiver. I'll show the process of forming, trimming, staining, finishing and stitching the leather by hand. And after that I'll take it for some a test drive and show you the kind of archery shooting I like to do ;)
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

Shipping Container Shop Awning - UPGRADE (pt 1 of 2)
Today I'm starting the new, 2.0 version of the Shipping Container Shop Awning. The new version will use a steel structure and have 2 posts versus the original awning that I built with an old mining pallet, which had 3 posts. I'll show the removal of the old awning and also be pouring new footers for the new steel framing.
So why am I redoing this? Well, there was nothing really 'wrong' with the original version, but I never really liked the middle post being right in front of the main door. And with the removal and replacement of my old hail damaged roofing on the shop, it was the perfect time to rethink this crucial awning space of the shipping container shop.
I can't say that tearing down a shop awning and pouring concrete footers will be exciting... but maybe it will be sorta interesting????
haha ;)
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

Rain Roof for my Rainwater Wildlife Waterer Project
Today I'm upgrading from a rainwater collection tarp to a rain roof on my wildlife waterer project from last year. The project has been a great addition to our property for the past year , providing water not only to local desert wildlife, but also to our dog Olive. I'll take you through how the system works and the upgrade process from using a billboard tarp as the collection surface to the rain roof setup. And if you listen closely... you'll here about how the structure of this rain roof has a connection to my wife's very first drive in movie. Strange, yes... but true.
For those that have further questions about how this system works, check out my rainwater tarp videos or my rainwater QA video.

Sunken Greenhouse Revival - Ventilation, Polycarbonate Panels (part 2)
Today I'm working on Part 2 of the Sunken Greenhouse Revival Project. Included in this part of the post-hailstorm rebuild, are the installation of the polycarbonate roofing, north side corrugated roofing and some automative greenhouse vent windows that operate with the temperature changes in the greenhouse. I'll also go over what is to come in the next couple parts of this project.... shade structure, gabion walls, stair railing and other little odds and ends.
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

DIY Travel Trailer: First Trip!
This is the first inaugural camping trip in the DIY Travel Trailer! In all, we travelled 700+ miles in the DIY Travel Trailer and believe it or not... nothing broke! The solar panels and 12v system were able to keep the Dometic cooler, charging station and led lights all in full operation during the whole trip! No leaks or any repairs were needed either.... but I did take about 40lbs of extra tools, screws, tapes, glues, etc,.... just incase I needed to repair something along the way;)
We are super thankful that all went smoothly and we were able to enjoy the trailer after quite a long build. And very thankful for you guys watching this build progress from a used axle all the way to a travel trailer. Join us as we do our normal camping activities.... fishing, foraging, campfire cooking, meadow golf, relaxation and more!
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions! - Joe

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Solar Panel Install (Part 11)
Today I'm installing 370 watts of flexible solar panels on the DIY Travel Trailer Project! In the video I'll show how I ran the solar wiring, installed the flexible solar panels, made the charge controller / battery connections, and ran everything in the trailer off of just solar and battery power. This represents the last major step in the build to make the trailer off grid capable and usable for camping!
..... But for those of you who have been enjoying this project, do not worry, there are still plenty of things that I have planned to add to this trailer in the coming year! A DIY awning, slide out kitchen, outdoor shower, interior bath area, etc,... just to name a few!
I also want to give a huge thank you to Sunflare Solar for donating two samples of their flexible solar panels for this project. They were super easy to install and I think represent the future of solar in both their design and manufacturing process. Sunflare is primarily a solar panel manufacturer for OEM Companies, but they do offer distribution through OK4WD.com. Here is a link to the sunflare panels

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer: 12V Electrical, lithium battery (Part 10)
Today I'm installing and touring the 12v electrical system in the DIY Travel Trailer Project. I'll cover how I made the wiring connections, setup the fuse panel, ran the circuits, lithium battery connections, led lights, 12v cooler, ventilation fan and lots of other little things here and there.
Up next in the project will be installing the solar panels which will bring the project to a usable point to take it camping. There will still be lots of side projects for the travel trailer, like a slide out kitchen, awning, bath cabinet, etc,.... But until those projects get under way it should be more camping and using it than watching it get built ;)

Traditional Vs Modern Shaving
Thank you to Dollar Shave Club for Sponsoring this video!
https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/homesteadonomics
Hey guys! Today we’re gonna be taking a sharp look at one of my edgiest hobbies....traditional shaving! Yes, those old school techniques of shaving with a safety razor, straight razor, shaving brush and a puck of shaving soap!
But it’s going to be way more than just that. I’m going to be comparing the traditional shaving practices of the past with that of modern shaving equipment and products. Which is better? Well, that depends on many factors. Both options offer unique benefits as well as cost savings over more conventional options you might find on store shelves.
In the video I’ll give you a tour of my traditional assortment of safety razors, straight razors, brushes, soaps and then show you how I use them. Then I’ll test out the offerings and service of Dollar Shave Club and how it can fit into the daily grooming routine of a traditional shaving enthusiast like myself!
I hope this video gives you an informative look at two different shaving options and what might work best for your needs. I personally see value in both traditional shaving as well as Dollar Shave Club’s offerings.
Thanks again to Dollar Shave Club for being open to my crazy idea of making a video focused on old school shaving techniques and equipment!

Sunken Greenhouse Revival - Plans
Today I'm beginning the revival of the sunken greenhouse project after it was damaged in a hailstorm this past winter. I talk about my plans for repairing the damages caused by the hailstorm as well as the changes and improvements that I want to implement to make it even better than before!
Topics covered.... polycarbonate replacement, shade panels, hail protection, railing, removing the middle post, cooling tube 'non-progress', north side metal roofing, reinforcing the raw rock/dirt parts of the interior... and other little odds and ends.
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

DIY Travel Trailer Battery Lock - How to build
Today I'm building the first component of the 12V system for the DIY Travel Trailer Project.... a lockable battery holder! It will secure the RV lithium battery for travel as well as keep it safe from someone wanting to steal it. Similar to my coupler lock build, it uses a puck lock to secure the battery in the holder frame.
Please let me know if have any questions! Thanks for watching!

DIY Travel Trailer Lock - How To Make
Today I'm making a hitch/coupler lock for the DIY Travel Trailer Project. Overall it is a pretty basic design... just some 4" steel tubing, two lock hasps and puck locks, a 2" hitch ball, and a hinge. And While it might be a bit overkill, I do think it will give me a bit more peace of mind on camping trips when we decide to leave the trailer for day outings:)
As for the next part in this series... that should be the 12V wiring, lights, and the solar setup. After that... camping!!!!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer: Kitchen Cabinets, Sink, Stove (Part 9)
Today I'm working on the kitchen cabinets for the Travel Trailer project. The majority of the build is pretty simple, just using pocket holes and face framing. But there are also some more custom features such as storage for a propane stove and a lower flip out door for heavy pots and pans. Additionally, there is a built in access to a foot powered water pump. And finally, a budget option for the countertop backsplash.... a $17 scrap piece of stainless steel from my local Industrial Metal Supply's remnant room!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Coupler Install, Hitch, Sway Control (Part 7)
Today I'm installing a Coupler, Weight Distribution Hitch and a Sway Bar on the DIY Travel Trailer Project. These are all things that I probably should have done during the initial build of the base frame... but hey, better late than never, right! :D
Next up on the Travel trailer project will be to run the 12v wiring/lights adding steps, building a coupler lock and finally build the kitchenette. And somewhere in between will be solar and doing the hail repairs... but I'm not totally sure when those will take place just yet...
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

Shipping Container Shop - Corrugated ceiling, trim and file cabinet storage
Today I'm making some repairs and a few random modifications to the shipping container workshop since we had the hail storm back in Oct/Nov 2018. Included in this video is the replacement of the old ceiling with corrugated vinyl roofing panels, replacing all the trim and a modification to my file cabinet storage. The next change for the shop will be changing the front awning supports to steel and adding new metal roofing.
But before any of that takes place I want to get back to the Travel Trailer Project , where I will be adding a permanent coupler/hitch and adding weight distribution and sway control. Followed by the 12v wiring, and kitchenette area.
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Dinette, Bed, Cabinets and more (Part 6)
Today I'm building the front convertible dinette and sleeping area in the DIY Travel Trailer Project. The Dinette includes a table with seating that converts to a bed and also has a drawer and some flip up storage under the seating. I also added some vinyl flooring and cabinets above the dinette that will also double as the distribution area for the 12V wiring.
Next up on the Travel trailer project will be to run the 12v wiring, add interior lighting, add a coupler and weight distribution/sway control, and finally build the kitchen area. After that will be to take her camping!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

More Shop & Trailer Updates and Comment Thoughts Part 2
Today I'm going over some more updates on the shop, trailer, greenhouse, etc,... that I didn't cover in the first video of this AND I'm revisiting my thoughts on some of the types of video comments I receive. BUT, this will be more focused on the positive aspects of comments, instead of the ones that leave me shaking my head ;)
For those who watched the first video, 5:00 - 14:32 is the same update you already saw.... so if you saw that one, you might want to skip ahead after the first few minutes. But if you hadn't seen it.. then by all means watch the whole thing :D
As always, thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

Updates, Progress and other Junk On My Mind
Today I'm going over some of the things that I've been working on and some things on my mind. Roof repairs to the shop, progress on the DIY travel trailer project, a Forney Plasma cutter that I'm going to be giving away.... and even some gripes that I have about comments that I receive from time to time.
Some other notes:
-Yes, I forgot to mention the plans for the hail damage to the travel trailer. That will likely happen before the shop roof is done.
-Yes, I know my shirt is dirty...haha... only noticed that during editing. I blew the dust out of the shop right before the video and forgot to shake my shirt out.
-Regarding the comments section. Please remember that I really do love to hear your comments and appreciate the many good insights that you guys give! Most of the comments I'm referring to are from the folks that love to type in ALL CAPS or use lots of !!! in their wording;) I gain a lot of insight and great advice from the comments, even the constructively critical ones..haha... so keep em' coming! :)
And if their are any other things I forgot to mention I will add them here or in a Pinned Comment in the comments section.
As always, thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Bed, Cooler Cubby and Storage (Part 5)
Today I'm building the rear sleeping area in the travel trailer project. It will include a cubby for my Dometic CFX 65W cooler to slide out of, as well as flip up storage.
Like many of my projects, this is a simple and basic build. But I think it should function well for years and I'm happy with the way it turned out! :)
Up next in the Travel Trailer project will be flooring, the front dinette, 12v wiring, solar/battery and then the Kitchen area. and somewhere in between those will be the hail storm repair of the outer aluminum panels.
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

Oh Hail No! Hail Storm Damages and more...
Today I'm going over hail damage caused from a recent storm that hit the property. The hail ranged up to golf ball size and damaged the travel trailer, sunken greenhouse, shipping container shop and several other structures and plants.
I'll show the damage that the hail caused, talk about what repairs I have planned and what's up next in the travel trailer project. A bummer it was, but we are still grateful and thankful that is wasn't worse :)
One thing I do want to point out though... is that, while this is an impactful thing that happened to us, it pails in comparison to others who are currently experiencing real disasters all over the world. Wildfires, flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, losses of loved ones, etc,. So please understand that while this event was a sad moment for us, we are still very grateful and thankful for our health and that our house is still standing. Our prayers go out to those who are experiencing real disasters and encourage as many folks to help when they can, in whatever form works for them.
As always, thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

How to Build a DIY Travel Trailer - Interior Cabinets (Part 4)
Today I'm building the upper rear cabinets for the Travel Trailer Project. Assembly includes pocket holes, face framing and hidden / recessed hinges.... oh yeah, and a whole lot of glue! These will be used to hold light weight items like bedding, clothing, board games, etc,.
Next up for the travel trailer project will be to build a bed platform that will include storage and a cubby space for a Dometic cooler/freezer to slide in and out. After that will be teh front dinette, kitchen area, 12v wiring, solar, etc,.... haha.... I guess I've still got some work cut out for me!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions!

Bumper and Stabilizer Jacks for the DIY Travel Trailer
Building an aluminum bumper for the Travel Trailer project. This is the second project that I've welded aluminum on and I'm still trying to get the hang of it...haha... but in the end I'm happy with how it came out!
I also go over some other things like stabilizer jacks, underside insulation, 12v fan, and more.
Please let me know if you have any questions :)
Joe
For more info on the welder I use:
Forney Industries http://bit.ly/2LjRRqH
All the aluminum I used in this build came from scraps out of the IMS remnant room... I tend to purchase a couple pieces of scrap metal everytime I go in... lol... you never know when they'll come in handy!
