Christian Apologist Impersonates an Atheist, Atheists Respond
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Apologist Sean McDowell posed as an atheist to teach Christian students how to debate atheists. It wasn’t a good idea. Here’s why.
Sean has been role-playing as an atheist for christian students for a while, but he recently stepped up the act, telling students in an apologetics class in a christian high school that he really is an atheist. He then held a Q&A where he discussed the multiverse and fine-tuning, biblical prophecy, consciousness and many other subjects related to theology and apologetics. The discourse between Christians and atheists is already strained, and while I think Sean wants to improve that discourse, acts like these are not the way. If we want to understand how someone thinks, we need to talk to them, not someone impersonating them.

Church Services Are Designed to Influence You. Here’s How
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. With an intuitive understanding of human psychology, churches design their services to manipulate your emotions. This is how they do it.
This video is based on my experience with protestant churches in the US, but the ritual-first format can be found in Mormon, Catholic, and Orthodox churches as well. Worship services are quite effective tools of emotional and psychological manipulation, leveraging group think and emotional priming to their benefit. For many former evangelicals (and others who have deconstructed), these services created a sense of guilt, shame, or worthlessness that kept them in church long after they knew it was time to leave. For Christians, they can simulate God’s presence convincingly. Christian rituals like these are so normalized in the US that their technique of influence isn’t thought of as manipulative or even unusual, and that needs to change. It's time to deconstruct church.

"Atheists can't answer these questions" ...or Can We?
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Islamic apologetics channel Towards Eternity has a challenge for atheists. I respond.
Towards Eternity posted a video titled “Atheists Can’t Answer These Questions” where they asked 3 questions which they say not only undermine atheism, but also point to the existence of god. I give my answers to these questions and discuss the logical fallacies present. In my opinion, the god of the gaps reasoning here is the biggest issue, but the fallacy of composition and some scientific illiteracy make appearances too. In this atheist / Muslim debate, sometimes we have to humble ourselves, admit ignorance, and work to find answers from there. Let’s try to assume less and use scientific skepticism more.

3 Myths Ancient Christian Scholars Actually Believed
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Did you know that Saint Augustine believed that peacock flesh was incorruptible? Proto-orthodox scholars, AKA the early Church Fathers believed some odd things. Legendary phoenixes and heretical, demonic magicians like Simon Magus were very real in their minds, and they told us so. Here we discuss St. Augustine’s City of God, the text of First Clement, the New Testament Book of Acts, Ireneaus’ Against Heresies, and Cyril of Jeruselem’s Catechetical Lecture 6. Across these texts, we find colorful tales of Christian myth, legend, and magic.
Surprised? Well, you probably shouldn’t be. Between apocalyptic prophecies and heresiological arguments, they already believed some strange things. Are the beliefs covered in this video the ONLY thing that makes their beliefs outlandish?

Awful Things We Believed at My Evangelical University
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. I graduated from an evangelical university. We believed total nonsense.
Before my deconstruction of Christianity, I attended an evangelical university. Personally, I had a decent experience, probably due to my demographic and then-fundamentalism. In hindsight, though, I see that many of our common beliefs were not only ridiculous, but dangerous. We thought God could give us the ability to control (AKA completely repress) our sexual needs, that education could threaten our faith if we weren’t careful, and that Jesus can make gay people straight.
These ideas permeate the cultures of other Christian universities too. Whether it’s Liberty U, Biola, Houston Baptist University, or any other of the sort, these ideas thrive. If only these colleges could see that evangelists like Christopher Yuan are not more reliable sources than actual scientific data.

Why I, as an Atheist, Am No Longer a Humanist
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. I no longer call myself a humanist. Here’s why.
In 2019, I was confronted with some ideas which lead to an ideological shift. Thanks to Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, Jonathan Haidt’s The Righteous Mind, and Peter Singer’s Animal Liberation, I came to see morality a bit differently. Rather than humanism, I’ve taken to sentientism and ethical veganism (and have for some time now). Ultimately, I don’t think labels are nearly as important as the principles they’re meant to communicate, so I don’t care to squabble over labels or definitions when I could instead cut directly to the issues at hand.
The Great Demotions often contribute to the cessation of various kinds of human prejudice. Speciesism, I think, should be the next to go.

4 (More) Lies Theists Tell About Atheists
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Do atheists believe everything came from nothing? Some theists may say so, but is it true?
Some theists believe and tell several lies about atheists, usually, in my opinion, out of ignorance. Four of the lies I tackle here are that atheists believe everything came from nothing, you have to have faith to be an atheist, true atheists wouldn’t talk about religion so much, and that atheists have no meaning in their lives. Religious media, and even respected apologists, often propagate all these falsehoods with "clever" lines like "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist!" It’s time that we do away with them for everyone’s sake.

How Carl Sagan Beat Pseudoscience (The Sagan Method)
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Astronomer Carl Sagan had a “consumer tested” method for busting pseudoscience. Here’s how it worked.
In chapter 12 (The Fine Art of Baloney Detection) of Sagan’s ‘The Demon Haunted World,'' he lays out a method for detecting and debunking pseudoscience. Whether tackling astrology, channeling, creationism, homeopathy, or alien abductions, Sagan’s ‘Baloney Detection Kit’ can handle the challenge. Scientists utilize the tools in this kit as a regular part of their work, and I think it’s time we learn how to use them in our day-to-day lives.
This Demon Haunted World review and discussion is my way of continuing the mission of Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and their peers. As Sagan in DHW, "Not explaining science seems to me perverse.
When you're in love, you want to tell the world."

The Wild World of Ancient Christian Propaganda
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Over 1600 years ago, propaganda was just as prevalent (and influential) as it is today. One source of ancient propaganda was orthodox Christian heresiology. Here, I cover excerpts from Tertullian’s “Against Marcion,” Irenaeus’ “Against Heresies,” and Epiphanius’ “Panarion.” Marcionites and Christian gnostic sects were constantly mocked, likely misrepresented, and accused of immoral acts within these texts. The proto-orthodox claim their theological superiority was key to their rise to dominance, but could it have actually been the result of a successful propaganda campaign?

3 Ancient Questions About Jesus That You've Never Considered
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Ancient Christians had huge theological questions which, today, we tend not to think about. Ebionites and Marcionites clashed over docetism, Marcion disputed the idea that god of the Old Testament was in league with Jesus, and early greek christians likely glossed over Jesus’ teachings about the afterlife as a Jewish apocolypticist. Caught up in the hot theological issues of our time, we often forget about ancient questions like those covered here.
Did Jesus have a physical body? Was Jesus the son of Yahweh? Did Jesus teach about heaven and hell? Informed by critical scholarship (especially that of Dr. Bart Ehrman), I explore these questions here.

An Ex-Christian Q&A (Inside the Ark Encounter)
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Two atheists visit Ken Ham's Ark Encounter. What could go wrong?
Growing up young earth creationist, I'd always dreamed about seeing Noah's ark in real life. As an evolution-accepting atheist these days, I'm still fascinated by the world wide flood myth. Answers in Genesis, which also founded the Creation Museum, has expanded the lore surrounding an ancient myth so intricately that some people think a literalist reading of Genesis is scientifically verified, with the hard proof housed inside a life-sized recreation of the Ark in the middle of Kentucky. My trip there was... a trip.
Here, I decided to explore my viewers' questions about my life as a (former) devoted Christian fundamentalist while surrounded by quite possibly the most extreme display of loyalty to Biblical literalism and creationism there is. Enjoy the Q&A!

How Carl Sagan "Predicted" 2020... in 1995
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Did Carl Sagan see 2020 coming 25 years ago? Here's why some people think he did.
A certain excerpt from The Demon Haunted World has gone viral countless times in the last few years, often being called prophetic and frightening. What does it really mean, though? Did Carl Sagan predict the future? Science denial, conspiracy theories, power disparities, media influence, and authoritarianism were all things he showed great concern over, but did he have sufficient reason for concern in his own time?
This Demon Haunted World review and discussion is my way of continuing the mission of Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and their peers. As Sagan wrote just before his internet-famous words in DHW, "Not explaining science seems to me perverse.
When you're in love, you want to tell the world."

Christianity's Most Toxic Idea [and Its Ancient Origins]
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. One the most frustrating attitudes among (some) Christians has its origin deep in the ancient history of Christian Orthodoxy. You might be surprised how troubled the Orthodox Church Fathers were by theological disagreements, and how they viewed dissenters. Here, we discuss the wild story of the concepts of orthodoxy and heresy. Simon Magus (AKA Simon the Sorcerer), Eusebius and "The Church History," Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Christian Gnosticism, all play a part. If you liked my video "A Wild Story From a Gospel Excluded from the Bible | Gospel of Judas," this video is for you.
The next time you hear Christian apologists like Greg Koukl, Frank Turek, Ravi Zacharias, or William Lane Craig say something like, "You know the gospel is true. You only say you're an atheist because you want to sin," you'll know where that misconception came from.

The Doomsday Cult Tier List
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. You probably picture doomsday cults when you think of cults at all, but doomsday cults belong in a category of their own.
Here I discuss that category, ranking 5 legendary doomsday cults from F tier to S tier. You'll likely be familiar with a few on the list, like The People's Temple (Jonestown), Jehovah's Witnesses, and The Branch Davidians (Waco siege), but others may surprise you. As in my Powerful Cult Tier List video, we'll go over each group's stats and special abilities while discussing any strengths and weaknesses.
What's the biggest cult in the world? Which cult is the most powerful? What is apocalypticism? What happened at Jonestown? What happened in Waco? Who are the Moonies? What do JW's believe about the end times? All these questions are addressed here.

The Religious Ads on My Atheist Videos Are Ridiculous
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. These Christian ads are all over my channel whether I like it or not, so I might as well make a response video to them. Thousands of you guys have written me comments and messages about the religious advertisements playing on my atheist videos. I assumed most of those ads were there to try to discredit atheism in order to convert atheists and skeptics, but it seems the ads running at the moment are there to keep questioning Christians in the faith. In that way, they're staying true to the mission of Christian apologetics.
"What Would You Say?" creates intentionally short videos, so their format has limitations, but their content needs work if they want it to answer big questions for Christians, provide solid arguments for God's existence, or defend the faith from skeptics. Here, I discuss their video, "Do You Have to Choose Between Science and Religion?" and touch on questions like: "Do science and religion conflict?" and "Is faith reliable?" as well as concepts like God of the gaps, science literacy, equivocation fallacies, atheistic religion, evolutionary theory, and moral psychology.

Letters to My Past (Evangelical) Self
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. I used to be an Evangelical, but now I'm an atheist. These are letters I've written to my past, Christian self which have helped me process the huge worldview changes I've undergone. I hope they can help a few others too. #LettersToMe
If I, a former Christian turned atheist, were to speak to my past self, you might think I'd want to explain how I became an atheist. In reality though, I think I'd just try to show myself that it's ok to be an individual. I was Independent Fundamental Baptist growing up, and that meant I faced judgement from God and the church for listening to secular music, having shaggy hair, and wearing clothes that...actually fit me. Now that I'm an agnostic atheist who's a few years past the deconstruction of my Christian faith, I see how absurd that judgement was.
For those wondering, here's "This Is Exactly Why I'm an Atheist"

Could Scientists Design the Perfect Religion?
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Could we use science to create the perfect religion for everyone? Hypothetically, yes, but should we?
To explore these questions, we need to understand a bit about the evolution of religion. Did humans evolve to me religious? Is religion a set of memes? Here, I acknowledge Emile Durkheim's Adaptationism championed by Jonathan Haidt in many works including The Righteous Mind, while also acknowledging the issue of religious harm raised by many atheists. Could we eliminate that harm but keep other aspects of religion around? Religiously unaffiliated people, or "nones," are increasing in number, and many are seeking out new religious ideas. If there's any time to explore all of these questions, it's now.
For a primer on hypotheses surrounding the evolution of religion, Check out my last video:

Is Religion a Flawed Play Style for Humans? (feat. TierZoo)
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Is religion an advantageous play style spec'd into with evolution points? Is it a bug in the game? Could it be both?
Here, we discuss the questions surrounding the evolution of religion: How did religion evolve? Did religion evolve? Are animals religious? With some help from TierZoo, as well as academics like Jonathan Haidt, Richard Dawkins and Daniel Dennett, I dive into competing hypotheses about the evolution of human religion. Primarily, I focus on Emile Durkheim's Adaptationism championed by Haidt, as well as Richard Dawkin's Memetics upheld by Dennett and Susan Blackmore. Where did religion come from? Hopefully this video will get you closer to the answer.
A huge thanks to TierZoo for lending a hand! Subscribe to his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHsRtomD4twRf5WVHHk-cMw

4 Mistakes Theists Make When Trying to Convert Atheists
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. How can you make an atheist believe in god? Can you convert an atheist? Well, if you make the mistakes which I discuss here, you won't have much success. If someone sent you this video, please take this as a gentle reminder to listen to the atheists with whom you speak before making assumptions. We'd all get along better in a world where more people listen to each other.
A lot of people have tried to convert me. Popular arguments I receive are Pascal's wager, the kalam cosmological argument, the moral argument, the teleological argument, the case for the resurrection of Jesus, arguments from personal experience, arguments from miracles, and a LOT of threats. Rarely does anyone listen to me before trying to convert me. If they did, our conversation would actually be meaningful rather than a waste of time. You're not going to convince me to go from atheist to Christian (or any other faith) if you don't know why I went from Christian to atheist. That's my best advice to someone who wants to know how to convert an atheist.

How MLMs Use Religion to Manipulate You (feat. The Antibot)

She makes excellent anti-MLM content which I highly recommend.
I've previously explored why MLMs are cults and *some* specifics on how MLMs manipulate distributors. This time, I'm focusing on how MLMs use religious rituals, language, and theology to manipulate people. I discuss Monat, doTERRA, and some others here, but the concepts I explain apply to any MLM / pyramid scheme out there. Multilevel Marketing conventions, motivational speeches, network marketing books, recruiting a downline, and so much more in MLMs draw on religious manipulation tactics. I'm looking at you, Eric Worre.
This video complements my videos, "This Is Why MLMs Get Called Cults" (1) and "The Cult I Almost Joined - Young Living Essential Oils" (2) so if you'd like to get a more complete picture of how MLMs manipulate, you can watch them here:

Creationist Kent Hovind Challenges Me, I Respond
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Young earth creationist Kent Hovind recently responded to me and claims I've been brainwashed. He says evolution is a religion and that I've fallen for it. The way he attempts to argue evolution vs creation is not productive, so I discuss what we can do better to elevate the discourse. I'm very careful with response videos and reaction videos, as they often escalate conflict, but I decided to go forward with this video to hopefully encourage us all to do better in these tough conversations.
Kent has done videos on Aron Ra, Matt Dillahunty, Paulogia, Viced Rhino, and more awesome atheist youtubers, so I'm... amused at being someone worthy of responding to. He responded to my deconversion story "This Is Exactly Why I'm an Atheist," where I discuss how I left Christianity, going from evangelical to atheist.
No spongebob dolls were harmed in the making of MY video, but I can't say the same for Kent.
