Juno is a NASA space probe orbiting the planet Jupiter after entering orbit on July 5, 2016; the prelude to 20 months of scientific data collection to be followed by a planned deorbit. It was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on August 5, 2011, as part of the New Frontiers program, and ranged into Jupiter's orbit on July 4, 2016.

The Doppler effect is the change in frequency or wavelength of a wave for an observer who is moving relative to the wave source. It is named after the Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, who described the phenomenon in 1842. A common example of Doppler shift is the change of pitch heard when a vehicle sounding a horn approaches and recedes from an observer. Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission is a space probe developed by NASA designed to study the Martian atmosphere while orbiting Mars.

Since 1991 the German Antarctic Station GARS O’Higgins has been operated by the German Aerospace Center in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy. The station is located about 30 km west of the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula in the direct vicinity of the Chilean Antarctic Base General Bernardo O'Higgins. The station’s most important scientific instrument is a 9-m antenna system designed for use in extreme Antarctic conditions. It is used to acquire satellite data, telecommand satellites, and also for geodetic radio telescope measurements. A wide range of Earth observation data from European and German satellite missions has been collected with this antenna system since 1991. These data have provided important insights into the climate and environmental changes at the Antarctic Peninsula for over 20 years.

The key to understand our origins is in the interiors and atmospheres of the giant planets. Jupiter is the biggest planet in our system and the most influential one: its large mass shaped the architecture of the solar system and due to its fast formation it contains valuable information of the solar system formation history. In orbit since July 2016, the first orbits of the Juno mission have led to a remarkable improvement of the planet gravity data, changing our knowledge of the planetary interior and leading to a much better comprehension of the giant planet and its role in the solar system. In this seminar, I will present the new Juno results, the models we use to understand Jupiter's interior and its differential rotation, and the main challenges and questions that remained to be solved.
