Another term for this is "permissionless". Moreover, because it's built on a public ledger, it is completely transparent. DeFi is governed entirely by code. The rules of the code are clearly defined and open for everyone to see. It's also open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and every single day of the year. There are a number of different use cases for Defi. These range from lending to porfolio management and trading on Decentralised Exchanges (or DEXs). 1️⃣ Synthetix 1️⃣ Synthetix is a decentralied synthetic asset issuance protocol that was built on the Ethereum protocol. This basically means that users are able to mint synthetic representations of real world assets as tokens which track the value of said asset 1 for 1. A simple example of this would be the sUSD token which is designed to track the value of the US dollar one-for-one. What's really interesting about Synthetix is that you can create these token derivatives on a number of real world assets as well. These include the likes of other fiat currency, commodities, indexes and of course - equities. What's even better about this is that these are ERC20 tokens. This means that they can be taken off on the Synthetix exchange and held in your own wallet 2️⃣ UMA 2️⃣ UMA allows its users to create trustless contracts on anything that has a price. These are all enforced through immutable smart contracts that minimize the use of off chain oracle price feeds. The protocol allows two counterparties to structure a trade without the need for any sort of clearing house or exchange. The smart contracts will automatically adjust the margin of each party. You can easily structure these based on share prices. You could create your own bespoke options contracts for example with defined payouts. 3️⃣ Serum 3️⃣ Serum is a decentralised derivatives exchange that is built on Solana. So, by being built on Solana, Serum could perhaps be one of the the fastest and cheapest DEX protocols yet. The Serum DEX currently features around 30 different cryptocurrency markets, all which trade against either USDT or USDC. While these are cryptocurrencies, anyone can create their own market on Serum. It's completely permissionless. It's all speculation on my part though, but I would love to see tokenized equities traded on Serum. 4️⃣ Injective Protocol 4️⃣ The Injective Protocol is a decentralised derivative exchange that is built on Cosmos. Injective is a layer 2 cosmos zone and hence does not have to put up with the congenstion that other Ethereum based Dex's do. Hence, it's much faster, more effecient and cheaper. It's a Dex protocol that will allow users to trade spot, swaps and futurs in a completely permissionless way. Injective is perhaps the newest Dex protocol on this list and as such, they are still in Testnet phase. They have already launched Equity contracts on the likes Tesla, Amazon and Gamestop. Here’s the deal; it was damn popular with 40 million downloads and with 70 million worlds created. That’s why it is the most highly anticipated crypto game out there. In a short, the game is all about creating an immersive metaverse where players create virtual worlds and games collectively and without a central authority. So how big are world building games? Well, Minecraft boasts 126 players and Roblox around 100 million. In my video, I go into the ways that the Sandbox aims to compete with these traditional gaming juggernauts. Now, what are the components of the Sandbox ecosystem? ► Voxedit: Is a powerful 3D voxel modelling package, which allows users to create those in-game items and export them to the marketplace. ► Sandbox marketplace: which allows users to upload, publish and sell their creations made using VoxEdit, as both ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens. ► Game Maker: Allows anyone who owns Sandbox assets to place them within a piece of land. 🏞️ Lands 🏞️ LANDs are pieces of digital real estate within the Sandbox metaverse that players can buy to build experiences on top of. That means you can populate them with in-game assets to create unique gaming experiences. The important thing to note is that each LAND is issued as an NFT that lives on the Ethereum blockchain. So yes, you have full control over them. These assets have a capped supply of 166,464. ⚔️ In-Game Assets ⚔️ Different assets have different levels of rarity. Some only have one or two copies in the world, which means you can easily corner the market for certain in-game items. However, as the game is in closed-Alpha, you are unlikely to be flipping them to bank profit here anytime soon. 🏖️ SAND 🏖️ SAND is the utility token used throughout the Sandbox ecosystem and has three main use-cases: ► Acts as a medium of exchange ► Governance, which enables holders to participate in governance decisions. ► Staking - watch my vid to learn more about that one! The max supply of SAND is 3 billion tokens with a current circulating supply of under 600 million. That means that token holders can expect to see additional supply hitting the market in the future. However, they are tradable on secondary NFT marketplaces. Each parcel of land exists as a non-fungible LAND token on the Ethereum blockchain. All items on the Decentraland marketplace are purchased using the MANA token, which is also the de facto in game currency of Decentraland. Holders of the MANA token can vote on any changes to Decentraland such as content moderation, token economics, and even the building height limit and size of land parcels. 📰Decentraland Updates📰 After in person meet ups were made impossible by the pandemic, Decentraland hosted the famous Blockdown crypto conference in April last year. In June, Decentraland partnered with Matic AKA Polygon to build mini-games in Decentraland. This introduced virtual gambling to Decentraland via Decentral Games, which is powered by Polygon. In September, Decentraland introduced “smart items” which make it possible to use external images, video, and audio in its virtual world. This expanded Decentraland’s use cases and functionality. 🤑Decentraland NFT Market🤑 Decentraland has become a hot bed for NFT art because it allows artists to set up their own virtual art galleries where people can browse, buy, and even talk directly with the artist in-game via voice chat. Some of these art galleries are damn impressive, and some of the most lucrative NFT sales have consequently taken place on Decentraland. One example is the recent NFT auction on Decentraland by former DC Comics artist Jose Delbo, which raked in nearly 2 million dollars for 900 of his Wonder Woman NFTs. 💸MANA Potential💸 MANA still has a relatively low market cap, a maximum supply, and no sizeable whales that could dump on retail investors. Another 5x move from MANA’s current valuation is very possible. 📅Decentraland Roadmap📅 Decentraland’s direction is driven by its community, though it has yet to hammer out the details related to its governance process, and has also not cracked open the massive community treasury. There are nearly 40 proposals in the works, and though many have been passed not all of them have been enacted. Two of interest are off-chain governance and the recovery of lost LAND tokens. 🎊Decentraland Events🎊 Decentraland has no shortage of upcoming events in its virtual world. Most of these events are virtual concerts, NFT art shows, NFT auctions, and airdrops. These events have historically been very lucrative and enjoyable, attracting hundreds sometimes thousands of users. 👩‍💻Decentraland Mini Review👩‍💻 Decentraland is very easy to use. All that’s required is a Metamask wallet – no cryptocurrency is necessary. The game is quite empty and has a few bugs, but is otherwise pretty good. Instead of using dozens of bridges to connect all of these blockchains together, the Cosmos network uses ‘hubs’. Cosmos hubs are basically Cosmos blockchains that act as a single point which thousands of blockchains can connect to for interoperability with other connected chains. 💱Cosmos IBC Explained💱 The recent release of the IBC is believed to be one of the most significant milestones for the cryptocurrency space. This is because Tendermint based blockchains aren’t the only ones that have become interoperable. According to Tendermint Inc.’s CEO Peng Zhong, any proof of stake cryptocurrency blockchain can theoretically connect to the IBC. Proof of stake cryptocurrency blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum can also connect to the IBC using Peg Zones which track the state of their blockchains. 📰Cosmos Updates📰 In September last year, Coinbase added ATOM staking to its exchange. In October, Coindesk reported that Cosmos was gaining popularity in India. In January this year, it was discovered that Grayscale had filed a for a Cosmos trust. In February, Cosmos became the first public blockchain to integrate with China’s Blockchain Service network. On the same day Cosmos’ IBC protocol went live, Tendermint Inc. announced that they would be allocating 20 million dollars to fund projects building on Cosmos. 📊ATOM Price Analysis📊 ATOM has seen a 5x move since the start of the year. This isn’t bad, but it’s nowhere near the growth that almost every other altcoin has seen during the same period. ATOM has basically been trading sideways since late February, and the price pattern we’ve seen since then suggests that we might be on the verge of a breakout (which began while shooting the video). 🕵️‍♂‍Why Cosmos Has Struggled 🕵️‍♂‍ However, the tools that these teams built along the way such as the Tendermint consensus module and the Cosmos SDK were essentially created at the expense of the Cosmos blockchain itself. Not only are these tools free to use, but the teams behind Cosmos also offered free support to any project looking to leverage them. This is in stark contrast to just about every other cryptocurrency project which would have demanded that developers pay for these products using their native coin. As a result, the emergence and growth of Cosmos based blockchains like Binance, Terra, and Crypto.com have had no impact on the price of ATOM. 📅Upcoming Cosmos Developments📅 The Gravity DEX is just one of many upcoming features that the Tendermint Inc. team hopes will add value to Cosmos and increase utility and demand for ATOM. Another product in the works is the Gravity Bridge, which will add a Peg Zone to the Cosmos hub so that tokens can be transferred between Ethereum and the Cosmos blockchain. By the end of 2021, Tendermint Inc. hopes to have its Interchain Staking service set up, which will make it possible for Cosmos validators to secure multiple auxiliary blockchains on a pay as you go basis. After all, everyone is looking for something a little different from an exchange and that’s because we all prioritise different things. Instead, you should be asking ‘What is the best crypto exchange for me?’. 1️⃣ Coinbase Pro 1️⃣ These guys are one of the crypto exchange OGs and they opened up their doors in 2013. Based in San Francisco, Coinbase has 35 million users that have traded $220 billion in volume and serves over 100 countries. Trading functionality includes market or limit orders and stops. On top of that, you can trade on 3x margin too. I am going to be straight up and say that Coinbase Pro fees are some of the highest out there. Watch my vid for more details on that. In terms of crypto support, about 40 are available and that’s not too shabby at all. A word of warning about Coinbase Pro’s support. Pray you never need to use it. Yes Coinbase Pro may have scrimped on support, however, they certainly have not carried that over to security. On top of all that, they have a great mobile app and the exchange integrates with numerous third party trading bots. 2️⃣ Uniswap 2️⃣ Uniswap is the most popular DEX in crypto and enables you to swap ETH or any ERC-20 token in a truly decentralized way. That means there is no company holding your crypto and you are always in full control of your assets. It also means that there is no KYC, no country restrictions and there is no such thing as withdrawal or deposit fees. However, there is a 0.3% swap fee. Uniswap does have people to help you with support queries in their Discord and the app is nicely optimized for mobile. One thing you should know is that the possibility of smart contract bugs could be a security concern. None have been reported, but just be aware of that! 3️⃣ Binance 3️⃣ I mean wow, guys. Binance is the king of crypto exchanges for a reason. It has low trading fees, more features and services then you can shake a stick at and one of the widest selection of cryptos out there. When you combine this feature with Solana’s block time of 400 milliseconds, you get a blockchain that can process over 50 thousand transactions per second. 💱SOL Updated Tokenomics 💱 100 percent of all SOL used to pay for transaction fees are burned. Solana’s updated documentation reveals that this will cut to 50 percent at some point, with the other 50 percent going to validators. SOL inflation began in February at 8%, and this 8 percent inflation rate will be cut by 15 percent per year until SOL’s annual inflation hits 1.5%. This is projected to occur sometime in early 2031. Solana’s documentation also notes that the Solana Foundation will earn inflationary rewards as well, though it is not entirely clear if this will add to the current inflation schedule. 📰Solana Updates📰 In late October last year, Circle partnered with Solana to launch its USDC stablecoin on the Solana blockchain. A few days later, Audius announced that they would be migrating their decentralized streaming protocol from Ethereum to Solana. By the end of 2020, there were over 100 projects building on Solana sustained by a network of over 350 validators processing the transactions from 5 million unique wallet addresses. There are now 250 projects building on Solana, which is insane considering there were just 100 at the start of the year. 📈SOL Price Analysis📈 SOL has gone up more than 20x since the start of the year. This is actually quite surprising when you recall the aggressive vesting schedule of SOL’s initial supply. SOL’s parabolic run seems to have been cut at the 45-dollar range, which is roughly where all early investors would be in a 200x profit, even the run of the mill retail investors from the public ICO Popping open the price charts reveals SOL might be entering a phase of consolidation that could last a few days or more. This is forming a descending triangle pattern. Because we are in a long term up trend, it is likely that we will snap back and retest SOL’s all time high of roughly 50 dollars when the triangle breaks. 🤝Solana Ecosystem🤝 Given how quickly Solana’s ecosystem is growing, my suspicion is that Solana’s technical development has been less of a priority After all, adoption is everything in the cryptocurrency space and Solana has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to spar with the likes of Ethereum and Polkadot Luckily for Solana, it has strong support from two very big players in the cryptocurrency space: the FTX exchange and Alameda Research Alameda Research shelled out over 90 million dollars on just two projects that are building on Solana. The first is called Maps.me, an offline map and travel app with over 140 million users. The second is called Oxygen, a DeFi lending protocol that will provide additional infrastructure for Maps.me. This was then used in order to run phishing schemes on the Ledger users. They did this through email as well as phone messages. This was then leaked on a hackers forum on the 20th of December available for anyone to see. Users started getting a lot of personal emails that were trying to extort them. 😨 Risks From Hack 😨 The first risk that exists is that people know where you live and they know that you have crypto. They could come to your house and force you to enter your password and hand over the crypto. The phishing attacks are also a risk as the hacker will try to get you to download some malware that will steal your private keys or your seed words. These phishing attacks have also extended beyond just hardware wallets as the hackers have targeted users with exchange phishing attempts. Finally, there is also the risk that they could get sim swapped on these exchanges. This is when the hacker will commandeer the cellphone and bypass the two factor authentication. There were also attempts to phish the seed words from those who held a trezor device. The hackers knew that most who had a ledger most likely also had a trezor as well. ❓ What To Do? ❓ Don't download any links from any hardware wallet manufacturer that emails you. You should also not respond to any emails or extortion attempts. They will take that as a signal that you respond to these and send more of them to you. You should also change your email address at the other exchanges if you have used the same email for ordering the ledger. If you do have any exchange accounts, then you will probably also want to avoid using sim based authentication and rather opt for something like Google Authenticator or Authy. Both of these generate an OTP on your phone locally. 🔓 How I Increase Opsec 🔓 Firstly, let's start with how I ordered that ledger device. I used a separate email address from the one that I use personally on all my other accounts. I had set this to auto forward any email that I did get from ledger regarding tracking with my parcel. Then, when it came to the shipping address, I do own a post box here in London. I have used this for a number of other deliveries that I wanted to take without people knowing where I live. I also did not hand over a contact telephone number for them to call me. I am incredibly cautious of giving my number to anyone and besides - they had my email so they didn't need to actually reach out to me on the phone. You will also want to make sure that you don't order your Ledger device from any sort of third party seller. This is because they could have tampered with it. 💯 Next Level Security 💯 If you buy a Trezor device you can set yourself a separate passphrase which will allow you to go into a secret wallet that no one else is able to see. This can be used in any time where you are under duress. You should also consider getting a safe deposit box where you can store two halves of both of your seed words. This can make sure that no one else is able to get near that crypto. Validators also face harsh slashing penalties if they try to steal from the cryptocurrency vaults they custody. 💱How ThorChain Actually Works💱 In contrast to other decentralized exchange protocols, all cryptocurrencies supported by ThorChain trade against the RUNE coin. As with other AMM style DEX protocols, arbitrage traders are incentivized to ensure the ratio of RUNE and the other cryptocurrency in the pool remains accurate in terms of dollar value. This reliance on arbitrage traders means ThorChain based DEXes do not need price oracles to function. Instead, the protocol references the price of RUNE in relation to other trading pairs in the protocol. 👩‍💻ThorChain Asgardex Tutorial👩‍💻 The web version of the Asgardex does not require a browser wallet extension like Metamask to use. All you need is some RUNE. Since only BEP2 RUNE can be bought on Binance, you’ll need some BNB to convert it to native RUNE. Once you’ve created a wallet on the DEX, you’ll automatically have a wallet for every connected chain. Both are seasoned computer scientists with ivy league degrees under their belt, and they’ve been dabbling in crypto since 2011 In early 2018, Roneil and Forrest got to work building Audius with the goal of giving musicians a censorship resistant platform and a much a bigger piece of the profit pie ⛓How Does Audius Work?⛓ The Audius protocol consists of three layers: the app layer, the node layer, and the blockchain layer. The app layer is the Audius website and app, the node layer is run on Solana, and the blockchain layer is built on Ethereum 🔏Audius Staking🔏 To ensure that content nodes and discovery nodes do their job, they must stake AUDIO tokens on the Ethereum blockchain which is the third layer in Audius’ architecture At present, content nodes and discovery nodes must stake a minimum of 200 thousand AUDIO to take on the role and earn fees from the Audius protocol. All staked tokens have a 7 day unlock period It is possible to delegate AUDIO to content nodes and discovery nodes and this can be done using the Audius Protocol Dashboard in conjunction with MetaMask. The minimum delegated stake is 100 AUDIO 💸AUDIO Tokenomics💸 AUDIO has an initial supply of 1 billion, and just 5% of it was airdropped to Audius’ most active artists and listeners. That said, 18% of AUDIO’s initial supply was allocated to the community treasury 40% went to the Audius team and its advisors which includes famous musicians, and the remaining 36% went to Audius’ investors, which later included Binance Labs and Coinbase Ventures 📊AUDIO Price Analysis📊 In terms of how high AUDIO could go, I’ll start by saying that it’s now or never. AUDIO has another vesting cliff coming in October, and this could suppress its price the same way it has in the past 📅Audius Roadmap📅 Audius decided to swap out its own permissioned layer 2 blockchain with Solana in October last year. This is because Audius’ reported user base is growing so quickly that it needs an even more scalable solution for its final development hurdle, which is the implementation of stablecoin payments 🕵️‍♂️Audius Concerns🕵️‍♂️ It seems that Audius has quite a few skeletons in the closet, and one of them is a man named Ranidu Lankage, a Sri Lankan pop singer who is apparently one of the co-founders and former CEO of Audius Even though there are a few interviews with Ranidu on YouTube about Audius, neither of the other two Audius co-founders ever mentioned that Ranidu was involved in any of their interviews There are even bigger questions around Audius’ operations today. According to the Audius dashboard, they have over 5.3 million active users However, all the metrics for Audius’ social media channels, app downloads, and even the song listens on its platform are a fraction of that number. Its Bitcoin that has been converted into an ERC20 asset on the Ethereum blockchain. Each WBTC token is backed 1 for 1 with a physical bitcoin. The real benefits of WBTC is that it allows you to access and leverage the Ethereum blockchain with your Bitcoin. It allows you to trade Bitcoin in a completely decentralised and trustless way. Given that this leverages the Ethereum blockchain, you have a much less bloated network to transfer assets. Ethereum 2.0 is also around the corner. With the introduction of Proof of stake and sharding, the hope is that these throughput numbers will skyrocket. ⚡️ Defi Benefits ⚡️ The next benefit is it allows Bitcoin users to take part in the DeFi ecosystem. They can mint a token that is valued like their Bitcoin. You can now trade Bitcoin in a completely decentralised way. Through Dex's like the Kyber Network and Uniswap, you can trade Bitcoin vs. other assets without having to rely on a centralised exchange. You can also trade Bitcoin with leverage against USDT through the use of the DDEX exchange. You can also utilise your wrapped Bitcoin to earn interest on one of the lending protocols such as Compound or Aave. So, you can generate returns on your BTC without sacrificing your upside. You could also get involved with funding a liquidity pool over at Uniswap. Or, you can use WTBC in tokensets to adjust your portfolio in a programmatic way. 🤔 Is it Working? 🤔 This most recent jump in the amount of WBTC was due to the announcement by the Maker Protocol that WBTC could now be accepted as collateral. This actually saw WBTC become the second most valuable collateral in the Maker ecosystem. You have the Kyber Network that has reported that WBTC is one of the fastest growing coins on their protocol showing an increased average trading volume in May of 31% compared to April 2020. This actually saw WBTC overtake other Bitcoin layer 2 scaling solutions such as the much-touted lightning network. 🤓 Concerns About WBTC 🤓 Perhaps the biggest one that I have seen (especially from those in the Ethereum community) is that of centralisation and trust. Technically, Wrapped Bitcoin is still held by one custodian. Wormhole supports both fungible and non-fungible tokens minted on Ethereum, the Binance Smart Chain, and even Terra. Secret Network is building a bridge with Monero, and Polygon acquired zk rollup project Hermez Network 👨‍💻Poly Network Hack👨‍💻 Over 600 million dollars were stolen by an anonymous hacker, mostly from Ethereum and the Binance Smart Chain. Though it’s not clear whether this means regular days or business days, this timeline puts us somewhere in mid to late September 🏦Institutions Crave Crypto🏦 US banks have been investing heavily into crypto custody since US regulators announced that federally chartered banks could custody crypto in June last year. This might be why there have been delays for crypto backed ETFs; because the banks want to custody the crypto backing them ☀Weekly Crypto Market Forecast☀ BTC hit a super important price point last week, and that’s the 200-day moving average. Crossing that ceiling from below is often considered to be a sign that there are more green days to come.
