This decentralized ecosystem of independent blockchains scales and connects to each other. Even cooler, Cosmos can connect to blockchains like Ethereum and Bitcoin. This is what makes it interoperable and why Cosmos has been dubbed the internet of blockchains. Its tech stack is made up of two different players. ► The first packages up the networking and census layers of the blockchain into a generic engine. ► The application layer provides a SDK to empower people to create their own blockchains. ❓ What Problems Does Cosmos Solve ❓ ► Scalability: Ethereum suffers from high gas fees right now. That’s due to Ethereum only being able to process around 15 transactions per second in its current form. Cosmos’ Tendermint BFT consensus mechanism can process thousands of transactions per second. ► Sovereignty: Sovereignty structures on other projects can be limiting. Only Ethereum apps need to abide by governance rules and that means that it’s hard to get new features added to the Ethereum virtual machine. That’s potentially a bit of a problem for app developers. Cosmos solves all that by allowing developers to easily launch their own blockchains with their own governance rules. ► Interoperability: Value in the crypto ecosystem is fractured into different blockchains. This consequently became the bedrock for Matic’s own technology, whose main-net went live in May 2020 💱How Does Matic Work💱 Matic Network has three layers. The first is a smart contract layer that is built on the Ethereum blockchain. These smart contracts are how the Matic Network connects to Ethereum, and they include smart contracts related to staking, delegation, and any decentralized applications running on the Matic blockchain The second layer on Matic Network is called ‘Heimdall’ and it is where proof of stake validators periodically publish summaries of block transactions to the Ethereum blockchain. For the time being, the functions of the Matic Wallet are limited to staking and delegating 💰Matic Staking💰 Staking rewards on Matic Network range from 6.5% to 650% per year depending on the percentage of MATIC tokens being staked. Matic staking rewards are currently just shy of 30% per year. The hardware requirements to become a validator on the Matic Network are also quite reasonable, and you only need 1 MATIC token to get started. Staking rewards as a delegator are slightly less because you have to pay your dues to the validator. 🤑Matic IEO🤑 Matic Network held its initial exchange offering on Binance using the Binance Launchpad. 1.9 billion MATIC were solid for a total price of 5 million dollars, which works out to just over a quarter of a cent per MATIC. Matic also held two private funding rounds which took place at the end of April 2020. The first private sale raised 165 thousand dollars in exchange for just over 200 million MATIC tokens. The second private sale raised 450 thousand dollars. 📊MATIC Price Analysis📊 Even though MATIC has a maximum supply, in practice this does not matter much when a billion tokens are made market ready every 6 months. It also doesn’t help that the Matic team was accused of manipulating the price of their token after it crashed in December 2019 It’s quite clear there is some sort of price manipulation going on with Matic. No one knows who is behind a particular Bitcoin address, but they sure can analyse everything about that address. Through the use of blockchain auditing tools, people can pretty quickly draw up a picture of what a Bitcoin address has been up to. Most blockchains these days are public. They are also censorship resistant which means once a transaction has been sent and timestamped. 1️⃣ Monero 1️⃣ Monero is a Peer to Peer electronic cash that was developed specifically for privacy. Given that their blockchain is completely hidden it means that XMR currency is fungible. Through the use of stealth addresses, users are able to keep their unique Monero address while receiving inward transactions with a one-time public address. This means that you can easily send an address to someone so that they can send a payment. However, no one else will be able to see that the end recipient of the payment is your address thanks to the use of these stealth addresses. Ring signatures allow each transaction to be signed by a collection of other possible signers. Ring CTs hide transaction amounts and make it almost completely private. These privacy features are mandatory for everyone who uses the network. They are not opt-in. All network participants are viewed equal and uphold the privacy for all on the network. It has a pretty strong community of cypher punks and privacy advocates. It's also community funded and these developers are constantly building new technology that keeps them one step ahead of those looking to break said technology. 2️⃣ Zcoin 2️⃣ Zcoin is a cryptocurrency that was built on the Zerocoin protocol. However, given a number of vulnerabilities in the zerocoin protocol, Zcoin upgraded to a new protocol in July of 2019. This was called 'Sigma' and it achieves anonymisation through a process called 'minting'. Zerocoin also makes use of Zero Knowledge cryptographic proofs in order to sign transactions. Zcoin is also unqiue in that they removed the "trusted setup" which makes it less dependent on a particular event. Zcoin is both a Proof of Work coin using the MTP algorithm but it also has a staking component with its Znodes. 3️⃣ Grin 3️⃣ Grin is a privacy coin that was built on the Mimblewimble protocol. Mimblewimble was a proposal developed that could theoretically increase Bitcoin's privacy, scalability and fungibility. It basically eliminates Bitcoin's UTXO model. This is then replaced with a multisignature for all inputs and outputs. These are confidential transactions that use a Pedersen commitment scheme where the parties will share a "blinding factor". Grin is able so scale mostly with the number of users and minimally with the number of transactions. This results in a large space saving compared to other blockchains. It is a completely open source blockchain that was started with no pre-mine or ICO. There is no founder's reward at all. The third Aavenomics change was the introduction of a governance mechanism. AAVE token holders can now change various protocol and governance parameters. 📰Aave Updates📰 Aave is in the process of receiving the necessary licenses they need to make it possible for users to buy assets in Aave directly using fiat. Aave received the first of these licenses in July from the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Aave also received over 25 million dollars in funding from various venture capital firms in October 2020. According to Aave founder Stani Kulechov, the purpose of those funds is to bring in more institutions and expand Aave’s operations into Asia. 💱Aave V2💱 Aave V2 introduced 4 new features to Aave. The first feature is collateral swaps for borrowed ERC-20 tokens. The second is debt repayment with collateral (previously you needed to repay with the ERC-20 token you borrowed). The third feature is debt tokenization, which gives borrowers debt accruing aTokens that can be freely traded. These are useful for Aave V2’s fourth feature: native credit delegation. This is where users can create custom loan contracts using interest bearing aTokens and debt accruing aTokens with third parties. 🤑AAVE 2021 Potential🤑 Aave has incredibly robust tokenomics compared to other DeFi tokens. Most of AAVE’s circulating supply is in the hands of the community. AAVE has a supply of just 16 million tokens, and an inflation rate of about 1.2% per year. According to their website, you can create a decentralized application on NEAR in just 5 minutes. NEAR was created by Alexander Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin in 2018 shortly meeting through the famous San Francisco based Y Combinator start up accelerator program. NEAR raised nearly 15 million dollars in two private funding rounds. For almost two years now, NEAR has been making videos for their Whiteboard Series where they get developers from crypto projects like Ethereum, Polkadot, Cosmos, and Solana to explain how their blockchains work in detail 🤓How does NEAR work? 🤓 NEAR is a delegated proof of stake blockchain with smart contract compatibility. It uses sharding to maximize efficiency and it is governed by holders of its native NEAR cryptocurrency token. NEAR is also interoperable with Ethereum via their Rainbow Bridge. NEAR uses a sharding mechanism called Nightshade. Instead of creating multiple “side chains” like you would in a cryptocurrency like Polkadot, shard chains on the NEAR blockchain are modeled as a single blockchain. NEAR uses a block production mechanism called Doomslug. It involves letting different validators take turns producing blocks in accordance with how many NEAR tokens they have staked. Each shard on the NEAR blockchain has 100 seats. To be a validator, you need to hold at least one seat in that shard, and the stake required for you to hold that seat depends on the total amount of NEAR tokens being staked by validators in that shard. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦NEAR Governance👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The first vote of the NEAR community was to launch the community governed main net earlier this month. This required 2/3 of all NEAR tokens being staked along with at least 35% of the initial supply to vote in the affirmative. The NEAR Foundation is a Swiss non-profit which is QUOTE ‘responsible for contracting protocol maintainers, funding ecosystem development, and shepherding core governance of the NEAR protocol.’ It get to decide who will be responsible for the technical upgrades made to NEAR. The NEAR Foundation will be responsible for holding and distributing the funds from the Protocol Treasury. 💸 NEAR Tokenomics 💸 The NEAR ICO accounted for 12% of NEAR’s initial token supply of 1 billion and raked in over 33 million dollars. Of NEAR’s remaining initial supply, 17% has been reserved for Community Grants and Programs. 14% of NEAR’s initial supply has been allocated to Core Contributors, which of course refers to the NEAR team. 17.6% of NEAR’s initial supply was sold to Prior Backers. 11.7% of NEAR’s initial supply will go to Early Ecosystem initiatives. 10% of NEAR’s initial supply has been allocated to the NEAR Foundation. The NEAR Foundation will be allowed to delegate these tokens to validators on the NEAR network. All of the categories above are subjected to various lock up schedules ⏳NEAR Roadmap⌛ A subsection of the NEAR whitepaper gives us a few clues as to what the NEAR team has in mind. The first is privacy. The NEAR team states pretty clearly that they are willing and able to implement the same sort of zero knowledge optional privacy you can get with Zcash. A second possible upgrade to NEAR involves the addition of private shards. Instead, the value of the leveraged token simply rises or falls depending on the type of token it is. The amount of leverage you get from these tokens fluctuates between 1.25x and 4x depending on market conditions. 👀How To Spot Breakouts👀 The key to spotting a breakout to the upside or a collapse to the downside is being familiar with the most common price patterns and indicators. The secret is trading volume. If the price is trending up and the buying volume is high, this suggests an upward move is coming. Similarly, if the price is trending down yet the selling volume is low, this could likewise signal a reversal to the upside. 📏Estimating The Next ATH📏 While price patterns and technical indicators go a long way in day-to-day trading, it’s a whole different ball game when prices start to go parabolic. The absence of any resistance in front of an upwards price trend means there is no way of knowing what the next high is going to be. This even applies to cryptocurrencies you were holding prior to moving there or establishing your permanent residence. Thanks to the predictability of human emotion on which technical analysis is based, price patterns and technical indicators are going to become more powerful than ever in forecasting short term price action as the public FOMOs into crypto 📊Bull Flags & Bear Flags📊 Flag patterns consist of two things: the pole and the actual flag. A flag is drawn when price has been in a downtrend (or uptrend) in the medium term but has seen an uptrend (or downtrend) in the short term with fairly low volume The pole to flag is drawn from the most recent high (or low) in the medium term to the candle which marks the start of the flag, and the percentage change in price you are likely to see will again be roughly the same as the percentage change of the pole. A flag is broken when the first big candlestick which breaks out of the flag is shown on the chart 📐Wedges📐 Wedges are drawn two trend lines start to converge. When this convergence happens, price can either spike to the upside or drop to the downside. A rising wedge might look bullish at first glance, but almost always results in a drop in price. In contrast, a falling wedge signals a potential swing to upside The percentage change in the widest portion of the wedge tends to be the same degree to which price will go to the upside or downside when the wedge breaks. A wedge breaks when a candle appears that is visibly outside the range of the wedge you drew 🔝Double Tops, Bottoms, H&S⏬ A double top pattern is drawn when price tries to break through a resistance level twice. This will look like the letter ‘M’. When this happens, it is common to see a drop in price that is roughly the same amount as the difference between the top and bottom of the double top A double bottom is drawn when price bounces off a resistance level twice. This will look like the letter W. This is a bullish sign, and the approximate move to the upside can again be measured using the distance between the support and resistance lines in the pattern A head and shoulders price pattern consists of three price peaks which all touch or almost touch a support line at the top of a medium or even long-term upwards price trend. The middle peak is large, whereas the peak on each side is smaller. A head and shoulders pattern often signals that price is about to fall. The degree to which price will drop can again be estimated using the distance between the middle peak and the support line of the price pattern 📏Fibonacci Retracement Indicator📏 The Fibonacci Retracement Indicator draws lines of support and resistance using key ratios from the Fibonacci sequence. These ratios reveal themselves frequently in nature, including trading. The swing high point is where you see an obvious change in a price trend from bullish to bearish. According to a report on Bitcoin's volatility, JP Morgan stated that 'volatility acts as a headwind towards further institutional adoption.' However, that same report notes that this volatility is in a sustained downtrend. It has been tamed considerably since then. It is also in a sustained downtrend over the first quarter this year. So, what this shows is that not only has Bitcoin being less volatile over the past 3 months. 📉 Fall in Correlation 📉 There used to be a high correlation between Bitcoin and Equity prices. Correlation is important because it can help to hedge out porftolio risk. If you hold assets that have a low correlation with each other, it means that they won't move together. This is according to the Modern Portfolio Theory of Investing. Bitcoin's correlation with the likes of Equity markets has been on a sustained downtrend since the beginning of the year. This is the case not only with the historical but also for the forward looking or "implied volatility". This means that it has become a good hedge for the likes of traditional equity. There has also been a reduction in the correlation with the likes of Gold and the Dollar. This means that it is it's own asset class that is completely unrelated to these other traditional assets. Given the negative correlation with the USD it means that this could act as a complete dollar depreciation hedge. 🏢 Goldman & MS 🏢 Morgan Stanley & Goldman Sachs have both been really sceptical on Bitcoin in the past but have completely changed their tact. Here is what MS was up to: - 13 Feb: Counterpoint Global - 17 Mar: Bullish Wealth Management Report - 19 Mar: Potentially Purchasing Bithumb - 1 Apr: Mutual Fund Approvals - 1 Apr: SEC Filing Goldman Sachs has said that they are developing products so that their wealthy investors can invest in Bitcoin. These funds will help them invest in Bitcoin. 🤔 Could BlackRock Enter? 🤔 BlackRock is the largest asset manager in the World with over $7.3 trillion in assets under management. In early December of last year the CEO was stating that Bitcoin could possible "evolve" into a global asset. In December it was reported that BlackRock was on the lookout for a VP Blockchain lead to "drive demand" for the firm's crypto offerings. The BlackRock Chief Investment Officer is also bullish. In an interview that he did with CNBC in February he said that BlackRock has started to "dabble" in Bitcoin. They have also started investing in these according to the most recent filings. Given how large BlackRock is, if they were even to invest 1% of their Total AuM into Bitcoin it could be monumental. The fact that the crypto market consists of very new and fairly complicated technologies has made it very volatile. As governments and seasoned investors (which hold much of the wealth) become more familiar with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, they are starting to invest more into the space. However, the cryptocurrency market is still mostly made of money from inexperienced and opportunistic investors. Despite its day to day volatility, the cryptocurrency market follows a clear 4 year cycle which is being driven by Bitcoin’s halving cycle. Every time a Bitcoin halving occurs, the total supply of new Bitcoin coming into the market from miners is cut in half. 💰The Altcoin Market 💰 The term altcoin is used to describe any cryptocurrency that isn’t Bitcoin. There are thousands of altcoins, and they are generally much more volatile than Bitcoin. This makes them even less friendly to seasoned investors. Their price action is also largely driven by Bitcoins. Altcoins only make up a small portion of the total cryptocurrency market cap. Small and medium cap altcoins have the biggest potential for growth, since it is easier to double a 100 million market cap than a 100 billion market cap. It is unlikely that any altcoin will have a larger market cap than Bitcoin ⚖ Tokenomics ⚖ Tokenomics are the most important factor when it comes to planning an exit strategy. Inflation will help gauge whether a cryptocurrency will lose its value over time. Most cryptocurrencies detail their tokenomics on their websites and ICO documentation. Knowing how tokens have been allocated is also critical, as any early investors and founders who were allocated tokens may sell when the market rises which could crash the price. Sometimes tokens that have been allocated to early investors and founders have a vesting schedule, meaning they are released slowly over a period. 📊 Technical Indicators📊 Technical indicators can be useful but don’t tell the whole story. When used in tandem with other factors such as an altcoins tokenomics, they can serve as an important part of your exit strategy. When it comes to altcoins, the two most important indicators to take note of are Bitcoin dominance and an altcoin’s trading strength against Bitcoin in satoshis. When Bitcoin dominance falls, it means more money is going into altcoins. The last time Bitcoin dominance dropped, it sent altcoins to new all-time highs. Slumps in Bitcoin dominance seem to last 1-2 weeks, giving you plenty of time to exit during that time if you want to. 🤑Exit Strategy Simulation🤑 Pick an altcoin and take note of its market cap. Since we know that market cap will probably not be bigger than Bitcoin’s any time soon. Once you’ve estimated how high your altcoin could rise in the rankings, calculate what that return could be when the bull market hits Next, take note of any tokenomic factors which could stunt that price growth between now and the bull market. Finally, pay attention to technical indicators as the bull market approaches. When Bitcoin is trading sideways or increasing gradually in price and its dominance is falling, you will know it is almost time to sell. When altcoins start going parabolic, check to see if yours is gaining or losing value relative to Bitcoin. When you are looking at Stocks or Bonds, these are usually considered to have "Value" becuase they either give you a stream of income or they give you ownership of an asset that generates income. Unlike raw commodities, there is no use end use case for Bitcoin. Oil is used for power. Gold can be used for Jewelerry. So, when it comes to valuing Bitcoin we have to use bespoke models that take into account historical prices, onchain data, network effects, scarcity, supply and demand. 📈 Stock-to-Flow 📈 This was the model that was developed by a famous analyst called PlanB. Essentially, it is a measure of the supply of a particular resource relative to the rate of supply growth. It's a ratio of the outstanding "stock" to the flow of that resource. This model has previously been used to value other scarce resources such as precious metals (gold, silver etc). Gold currently has a S2F ratio of 65 whereas Bitcoin has a ratio of 56. However, Bitcoin's is always increasing as it goes through those halving events. PlanB found a really strong statistical relationship here and has extrapolated it out into the future. Using the model, here you have what the theoretically price of Bitcoin should be based on the S2F. And here we have the actual price of Bitcoin overlayed on top of it. As you can see, it has been tracking it pretty damn well. We could be seeing a bitcoin price of 100k by as early as May. 📈 Relized Capitalisation 📈 It is a measure of the aggregate cost basis of all the Bitcoin that has ever been moved. It is calculated by taking the price of each Bitcoin at its last on-chain movement. Those coins that last moved back in 2012 will have much less of an impact on the market cap than those that moved yesterday. The goal of this metric is to try and de-emphasize the impact that these older coins will have on the market cap. 📈 Spent Output & Hodl Waves 📈 What Spent Output shows is the percentage of all spent output that were created within a particular age band. Each of the lines over here represent the percentage of spent outputs that were created in the time bands highlighted. It is an indication of how much the longer term holders are holding their coins and whether most of those coins that are currently being moved are newer entrants into the market. Another hodl metric that you guys may like from Glassnode is what they have aptly named their "Hodl waves". These basically represent the proportion of certain supply that is held by UTXO's with different life spans. 🐋 Whale Addresses 🐋 One of the most reliable indicators out there is just to examine the number of wallets that have more than 1,000 Bitcoin in them. If there are more wallets with 1k BTC in them it will show that these whales have been accumulating their coins and hence they have a view that Bitcoin could have value at these levels. The number of wallets with 1k BTC in them has been on a steady incline over the past year. It has somem of the most advanced tech in the space when it comes to ring signatures, mining algorithms and transaction capability. There are a number of agencies that have been trying to crack the algorithm for a few years but all to no avail. However, the fact that they are trying to do so shows that they are concerned about the project and view it as a threat There are a number of other reasons as to why I am bullish. Monero uses a mining algorithm that makes it more decentralised than Bitcoin. Also, it has the most liquidity out of the privacy coins. And, even if there is a situation in which centralised exchanges delist Monero, you can trade in a decentralized manner through the use of atomic swaps 2️⃣ Algorand 2️⃣ Algorand could be an attractive play if you are looking to diversify your "smart contract" blockchain exposure. Algorand is a blockchain that has actively set to solve the pretty well known "blockchain trilemma" How they plan to acheive this is down to their highly performant consensus mechanism. It is called 'Pure Proof of Stake'. The main benefit of this is that Algorand's technology finalizes blocks in seconds. There is also strong VC funding that could help to increase use case on the blockchain. You also cannot forget about the impact of USDC demand (it was integrated with Algorand). 3️⃣ Theta 3️⃣ Theta is a project that is looking to completely transform the way we think about streaming and online content delivery. They want to decentralise and democratize it. This type of scale is all possible thanks to some pretty mindblowing streaming and blockchain technology. You also have to consider just how hot streaming is currently and most of it is in the hands of centralised entities. Theta has a strong team and strong advisors. All of the token supply is already on the market and 55% of it is being staked. When you stake your THETA, you also earn another token called TFUEL. These are burned every time that there is a transaction which of course reduces the available supply 4️⃣ Injective Protocol 4️⃣ The Injective Protocol is a decentralised derivative exchange that is built on Cosmos It will allow users to trade spot, swaps and futurs in a completely permissionless way. They will also be able to structure their own derivatives on the platform and create a market for it It is implemented as a Cosmos SDK module and is built with Ethermint. This basically means that it has one major advantage over most of the Etheruem based Dex's on the market This is because it is a layer 2 cosmos zone and hence does not have to put up with the congestion that other Ethereum based Dex's do 5️⃣ BarnBridge 5️⃣ BarnBridge is a protocol for the pooling and tokenization of risk. It works by pooling funds on the platform and then allocating these funds to different Defi protocols This therefore means that defi invesoters are able to invest in different risk tranches based on their yield and risk tolerance. They even got listed on the US stock market this year too. But how popular is Coinbase? Well, they have over 56 million users, trusted by over 8,000 institutions and log $335 billion in quarterly trade volume. Coinbase does have an office in San Francisco. However, they have transitioned to a remote-first company over the last year. Despite that, the exchange holds a plethora of licenses Robinhood was founded in 2013 and this mobile-only broker raised a crazy $5.6 billion in funding. Like Coinbase, they recently launched their IPO. They are headquartered in California and are a FINRA-regulated broker-dealer. Robinhood are also registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Robinhood’s crypto product also appears to be wildly popular with 9.5 million people using the app to trade crypto in Q1 of this year. 🌎 Country Support 🌎 Robinhood only accepts US users right now. Those based outside of the US will be glad to know that Coinbase accepts over 100 countries and people in every US State except Hawaii. 💪 Supported Assets 💪 In short, Robinhood has a limited selection of just seven cryptos for trading. That includes Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Ethereum Classic and Litecoin. Coinbase has around 75 different cryptos on the shelves. 🔒 Security 🔒 Coinbase claims that not a single customer has lost funds due to a breach of the Coinbase or Coinbase Pro trading platform. This being said, users have been caught out by email account takeovers, SIM swap attacks and password breaches. That has led to some customers losing funds. That’s why it is so important to take the security of your crypto exchange accounts seriously. This being said, Coinbase does store 97% of user funds offline to protect against hacks. The other 3% is kept in insured hot wallets. Oh yes, USD cash balances for US residents are also covered up to $250k under FDIC insurance. Robinhood also stores the majority of customer crypto offline in cold storage. I have not been able to find the exact percentage. However, Robinhood has crime insurance that protects a portion of the assets They also have coin management security protocols in place, which means that coin transfers require authorization from a select group of people. This list is constantly changing and is not disclosed internally or externally. 💳 Deposit Methods 💳 Robinhood only supports ACH deposits. Coinbase supports bank transfer, PayPal, debit card and credit card. These methods are available on a country by country basis. 💰 Trading Fees 💰 At Coinbase you’ll be charged a spread of 0.5% for crypto buys and sells. On top of that, you’ll also be charged a flat fee based on the value of your trade. Whereas on Coinbase Pro the max fee is 0.5% - so, I would use that instead. Robinhood markets itself as commission free. However, there is a cost. Robinhood essentially adjusts market orders to limit orders and jacks up the buy orders by 1% and the sell orders by 5%. 📈Trading Experience 📈 Watch the vid for my thoughts on this. 🎧 Customer Support 🎧 Both platforms have had bad reviews when it comes to customer support.
