How to Protect Chickens from Hawks. TWO THINGS That Work!
Yes, crows do keep hawks away. They are known to mob and harass hawks, acting as a deterrent. This behavior is observed because hawks are seen as a threat to crows, particularly to their nests, nestlings, and territory. Crows are protective of their young and will engage in aggressive behavior to drive away potential predators, including hawks.
The other thing we have done is get a Rooster. Our new rooster is wonderful. He is gentle and very attentive to the flock. He is not very vocal at all and we have not lost a hen since introducing him months ago. Here is a quick video of just how protective a good rooster can be. Have a great day everyone. Remember to like, comment, share and subscribe. It is a huge help with the big tech algorithms. I’ll catch you next time. Take care.

What Does Your Cat Think of You
What does your cat think of you? Who knows? Cats are complex creatures, and it is difficult to say definitively what they think of humans. However, there is evidence to suggest that cats do form attachments to their owners and that they see them as a source of comfort and security.
For example, a 2019 study published in the journal Current Biology found that cats have the same attachment to their owners that babies show to their parents. Kittens in the study acted distressed when their caregivers left and happy and secure when they returned.
Another study, published in the journal Animal Cognition in 2015, found that cats are able to recognize their owners' voices and that they respond more positively to their owners' voices than to the voices of strangers.
Of course, not all cats are the same, and some cats may be more affectionate and attached to their owners than others. However, the overall evidence suggests that cats do form bonds with their owners and that they see them as important members of their social group.
Here are some of the ways that cats show affection for their humans:
Rubbing against them
Purring
Kneading on them
Following them around the house
Bringing them prey
Sleeping on them or near them
If you have a cat, pay attention to the ways that they show affection to you. This will help you to understand their needs and to build a stronger bond with them.

New Chicken Breed for Our Flock
We added a new chicken breed for our flock. The Appenzeller Spitzhauben, also known as the Appenzell Spitzhaube, is a breed of chicken that originated in the Appenzell region of Switzerland. It is a medium-sized breed with a distinctive crest on its head. The breed is known for its good egg production and its hardy nature.
The Appenzeller Spitzhauben is a relatively new breed, having been developed in the early 1900s. It is thought to have been created by crossing the local Swiss chicken with the Brabanter and the Crèvecoeur breeds. The breed was first recognized by the Swiss Poultry Association in 1908.
The Appenzeller Spitzhauben is a popular breed in Switzerland and is also becoming increasingly popular in other parts of the world. It is a good breed for both hobbyists and commercial producers.
Here are some of the key characteristics of the Appenzeller Spitzhauben chicken:
Medium-sized breed with a distinctive crest on its head
Good egg production (around 200 eggs per year)
Hardy nature and well-suited to cold climates
Calm and docile temperament
Available in a variety of colors, including black, white, brown, and silver
The Appenzeller Spitzhauben is a good choice for those looking for a hardy and productive chicken breed. It is also a good choice for those with children, as it is a calm and docile bird.

2022 Bird Flu Outbreak, Everything You Need to Know
In recent days, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has identified cases of deadly avian influenza in U.S. flocks and put the poultry industry on high alert. At the same time, an outbreak was confirmed in a backyard flock of birds in Fauquier County, Virginia.
In December 2014, avian influenza (also known as bird flu or HPAI H5) had spread in the U.S. for the first time since 2004. Since that December, more than 40 million turkeys and chickens have been killed by the virus.
This is a worrisome time for many backyard chicken farmers. Many people are unsure how best to care for their chickens during this time. We have compiled the latest information on bird flu so you have everything you need to keep your chickens safe during this endemic time.
