At least four people have died after a tropical cyclone battered Madagascar's east coast. Heavy rain and powerful winds have seen roofs teared off houses and triggering a storm surge. Cyclone Freddy made landfall on Tuesday, weeks after another tropical storm killed 33 and left thousands without shelter. Top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. China and Russia are reaffirming their close relationship, promising further agreements between both countries, although they’ve not said what those agreement would be. Scientists in the US say they have used new technology to restore movement in the arms of two people who had suffered strokes. A team at the University of Pittsburgh created an electric spinal cord implant that stimulates the nerve endings damaged during a stroke, ultimately enabling people to move. While more clinical trials are still needed, researchers say the results give a glimpse into the future, where such implants could make meaningful differences to people's lives. #Technology #BBCNews

A six-month trial testing the costs and benefits of a four-day working week across a number of different businesses has ended in success. Sixty-one employers across the UK took part in the trial, and were all keen to permanently implement the new work pattern upon its completion. Shamima Begum has lost her challenge over the decision to deprive her of British citizenship because she is a threat to national security. Mr Justice Jay told the semi-secret court dealing with her case that her appeal had been fully dismissed. The decision means the 23-year-old remains barred from returning to the UK and stuck in a camp in northern Syria. A court in Iran has sentenced German-Iranian dissident Jamshid Sharmahd to death on the charge of "corruption on Earth". Sharmahd, 67, who lived in the US, is believed to have been kidnapped by Iranian agents in Dubai in 2020 and then forcibly taken to Iran via Oman. Iran accused him of being the leader of a pro-monarchist terrorist group. He denied the claim and a human rights group said he faced a grossly unfair trial based on forced "confessions". Germany's Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, condemned the sentence as "absolutely unacceptable". Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed the West for provoking the war with Ukraine, in a State of the Nation address. "Ukraine and Donbas have become a symbol of total lies," Putin said, accusing the West of withdrawing from "fundamental agreements" and giving "hypocritical statements" as well as expanding the Nato defence alliance and "covering us with an umbrella". "I want to repeat: it is them who are culpable for the war, and we are using force to stop it," he said. North Korea has fired two short-range missiles into the Sea of Japan, which it said carries nuclear weapons. It said it is trying to deter the US and Seoul from holding annual military exercises that are designed to help fend off North Korea's nuclear threats. US President Joe Biden has given a speech in Poland in which he vowed Ukraine would "never be a victory for Russia”. A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has struck southern Turkey, weeks after a deadly quake devastated the region. Turkey's disaster and emergency agency Afad said the tremor occurred at 20.04 local time (17.04 GMT). Witnesses told the Reuters news agency there had been further damage to buildings in Antakya. A body found in a Lancashire river on Sunday was that of missing Nicola Bulley, police have said. The mother-of-two, 45, disappeared during a riverside dog walk in St Michael's on Wyre, England more than three weeks ago, sparking a major search operation. Her body was discovered about one mile (1.6km) away from where she was last seen on the morning of 27 January. In a statement, Ms Bulley's family paid tribute to "the one who made our lives so special". "We will never be able to comprehend what Nikki had gone through in her last moments and that will never leave us," the family said. #BBCNews

In 1967, the residents of US-Mexico border town Rio Rico discovered they weren't Mexican citizens but were actually American. For years it was assumed Rio Rico was part of Mexico, because it lay south of the river that forms the US-Mexico border. During the Prohibition era, the town became known as a place US citizens could go to freely drink and gamble. Police searching for missing Nicola Bulley have found a body in the river. The mother-of two disappeared during a riverside dog walk in St Michael's on Wyre in Lancashire three weeks ago, sparking a major search operation. Lancashire Police said they "sadly recovered a body" after they were called to the River Wyre near Rawcliffe Road at 11:35 GMT on Sunday. A statement said formal identification had not yet been carried out "so we are unable to say" if it was Ms Bulley. Bulgarian police have made four arrests after 18 people, including a child, were found dead in an abandoned truck in Bulgaria, its government says. The truck appeared to have been illegally transporting a group of migrants. Thirty-four people, including five children, were rushed to hospitals and some were in a critical condition, the health minister said. Drone video shows the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp as it is today - 70 years after it was liberated by Soviet troops. The camp in Poland is now maintained as a World Heritage Site and is visited by thousands of tourists and survivors every year. Auschwitz was the largest camp established by the Germans during World War II. More than a million people - the vast majority of them Jews - died there between 1940, when it was built, and 1945, when it was liberated by the Soviet army. Railway tracks into Auschwitz-Birkenau - Trains filled with victims from throughout occupied Europe arrived at the camp almost every day between 1942 and the summer of 1944. Ruins of wooden huts at Birkenau - Birkenau (or Auschwitz II) was erected in 1941 solely as a death camp, the wooden huts are now in ruins with only brick fireplaces and chimneys remaining. Entrance to Auschwitz I -The wrought-iron sign over the entrance bears the words Arbeit Macht Frei - "Work sets you free". Auschwitz I - The brick-built buildings were the former cavalry barracks of the Polish Army. Courtyard between blocks 10 and 11 at Auschwitz I - Block 11 was called "the Block of Death" by prisoners. Executions took place between Block 10 and Block 11 and posts in the yard were used to string up prisoners by their wrists.
