Kara Collier: How to Use Technology to Quantify Health & Improve Habits
Have you ever tried measuring your blood glucose?
There's never been a better time to use cutting edge technology to quantify and optimize your health.
But instead of jumping straight into invasive dystopian technology like brain implants (turning us into the Borg), we can actually use tech as a tool to improve our habits.
It doesn't have to be overly complicated, and it's quickly becoming easier and cheaper to track heart rate variability, sleep quality, fitness, blood sugar, and much more.
And what's most important is how we use our data to modify our daily practices.
So joining us on the show today is Kara Collier, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, and the Director of Nutrition at NutriSense where she's also a leading authority on the use of continuous glucose monitoring or CGM technology.
On this show with Kara Collier, we're chatting about:
• How to use technology as a tool to quantify and optimize your health
• The benefits of tracking blood sugar with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM)
• Why you're stealing energy from the next day when you have that ice cream or extra booze late at night
• Why drinking oat milk is almost as bad as sugar-laden soda once it hits your bloodstream
• How stress impacts blood glucose levels (and what to do about it)
• Why it's a good idea to test your blood glucose after eating manufactured keto products
• And tons more...

Doug Bopst: How to Use Adversity to Your Advantage
What's the difference between being in lockdown and being in jail? The answer from today's guest will surprise you.
Today I'm grateful to be here with my new friend, Doug Bopst. Doug is a personal trainer, author of 3 books, and host of The Adversity Advantage podcast.
Doug has a unique perspective as someone who actually spent time in jail—a former convicted felon and drug addict, Doug made the best of his time in jail to discover fitness and reinvent himself.
When you're looking around in these challenging circumstances the past year or so, a lot of people are getting weaker or they're getting broken, they're letting things get to them. And then a small minority of folks are actually getting stronger because of this, they're getting into dojo mode and getting disciplined.
Doug has a lot of interesting perspectives on how we can get out to the other side of all these challenging times even stronger than we would have otherwise been.
Doug's story was featured in a documentary film called From Felony to Fitness to Free and as of this year, he's now 12 years sober. So congratulations to Doug!
You're going to dig this show. We're chatting about:
• The surprising difference between being in jail and being under lockdown

Shawn Stevenson: How Subsidized Foods are Fattening America
Should we be prohibited from asking questions?
If we lose the ability and right to speak, ask questions, to think for ourselves, to have sovereignty over our bodies and lives... we are on a precarious path indeed.
With more of us obese, overweight and diseased than ever before, it's the very governments and corporations silencing us and ordering us around that got us here in the first place.
As we're being told what to believe, many of us are being censored, shadowbanned, or even de-platformed - apparently just for thinking for ourselves.
How many times do governments, politicians and mega corporations have to exploit us before we get a clue?
If you look at history, you can see where this goes, and it's not pretty. So we have a spicy episode for you here today.
Returning to the show is our dear friend, Shawn Stevenson, speaker, host of the #1 ranked podcast The Model Health Show, and bestselling author of “Sleep Smarter” and the brand spanking new book “Eat Smarter”.
Shawn graduated from The University of Missouri–St. Louis with a background in biology and kinesiology, and founded the Advanced Integrative Health Alliance which provides wellness services to individuals and organizations worldwide.
You're going to like this one. Shawn definitely takes the gloves off a little bit. It’s a great conversation. I hope you dig it.
We're chatting about...
• Why it's worth it to have higher standards for what you're eating
• How subsidized foods are fattening America
• Why it's important that people don't skip over balance in the diet
• How to share love through home cooked meals
• Why we should prioritize prevention over medical intervention
• The importance of diversity in our gut microbiome
• And much more...

Marion “Nan” Bascom: Love & Wisdom Straight from My Grandmother
How do you make ends meet when you're as poor as church mice?
Today, we have a very special show for you.
When I first started this show about 10 years ago now, I bought a cheap video camera and I decided to go to my grandmother Nan's house and interview her… she's just about my favorite person in the universe.
And as many of you know, Nan's wisdom runs throughout my work—this podcast, of course, my blog with all recipes that we have, and especially The Wild Diet—you'll find lots of Nan in The Wild Diet.
But who is Nan, anyway?
Well, Marion Bascom, affectionately known as Nan, was a nurse, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and a city girl who married my grandfather, Horace, a dairy farmer, and then took on the challenges of tending to an organic veggie garden, dairy farm and homestead while raising 7 children.
After living for almost a century, Nan passed away this year at 97 years old. I'm very happy, though, to be able to share her wisdom with you here today, especially now.
I didn't know exactly what I'd be doing with the interview with Nan all those years ago. She's technically going to be my first video interview on this show. It’s very cool, and I'm really happy to share it with you.
We could all benefit from listening to some wisdom from a grandmother right now, don't you think?
Get ready to smile, you're going to love this one.
So in this conversation with my grandmother, Marion Bascom, we're chatting about:
• Incredible stories from raising 7 children on a farm with almost no money
• The low cost of food when you grow it yourself
• Family meals, gardening, canning and foraging for wild edibles behind the house
• What Nan did when she thought one of the kids was on drugs
• How to make homemade bread, ice cream, yogurt, jellies and pickles… she even made her own root beer
• Nan’s secret to a good long life
• And tons more…
