Sunday Longplay - Koumakan Remilia (Castlevania 1 NES ROM Hack)

This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm playing an rather old sprite hack of an NES Classic I've wanted to revisit for a while, but never did. Welcome to Koumakan (Scarlet Devil Mansion) Remilia!

This is a sprite hack of Castlevania 1, more specifically the Japanese version Akumajou (Demon Castle) Dracula, that replaces your character and all the enemies with Touhou characters. Instead of Simon Belmont, you're playing as everyone's favorite shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei fighting through the Scarlet Devil Mansion in search for its ruler Remilia Scarlet (replacing Dracula).

The same year this hack was made, a development studio known as Frontier Aja would take this concept and run with it by developing their own "Touhouvania" game called Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony (also starring Reimu), as well as a sequel starring Sakuya Izayoi. The first game is being remastered now for Switch and PC, but still with no release date.
