Worldcoin aims to provide cryptocurrency to every living human by scanning their eyes. The company has halted operations in at least seven countries due to logistical issues. Worldcoin's target launch date, which was set for later this year, has also been delayed. It is now the keeper of sensitive biometric data on 450,000 people. Worldcoin is the brainchild of Alex Altman, who came up with the idea for a new cryptocurrency that would be available to everyone in the world in 2019.

The company's eye-imaging device can scan 130,000 people's eyeballs in seconds. Worldcoin is no longer imaging eyeballs in Sudan and Turkey due to legal and regulatory issues. The company has ceased operations in Ghana, France, and South Africa. CEO predicted that it would have 6,000 employees by the end of 2022. Worldcoin currently has roughly 30 orbs in circulation.

Worldcoin's numerous delays and withdrawals have left several of its contractors unhappy and terrified. When pre-launch registrants have their irises photographed, they sign a release form acknowledging that the company would store high-quality photos of their face and eyes to train its iris-distinguishing algorithm.
