Turkey and Israel announced a new era in relations on Wednesday after years of rift when the Israeli president paid an important visit to Ankara.

Appearing in front of the camera after speaking with Isaac Herzog, Erdogan described the Israeli president's visit as "historic" and a "turning point" in Turkish-Israeli relations.
Erdogan stressed Turkey's readiness to cooperate with Israel in the energy sector, adding that Turkey's foreign and energy ministers will soon visit Israel for further talks on enhancing cooperation.

Herzog's visit marks the first such trip by an Israeli leader in more than a decade, as the two countries have agreed to rebuild their ties despite differences.

“I believe this historic visit will be a new turning point in Turkey-Israel relations. Our common goal is to revitalize political dialogue between our countries based on common interests and respect for shared sensitivities," Erdogan said.

"I think this is an opportunity to revive cooperation on the topic of energy that was started earlier," he added, referring to Turkey's seismic drilling and vessel activities in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Turkey and Israel have previously sought to cooperate on energy resources, but talks have never progressed further.

Erdogan has previously said that the two countries could work together to bring Israeli natural gas to Europe, reviving an idea discussed more than 20 years ago.
Gas supplies from the Mediterranean could reduce Europe's dependence on Russian gas, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and subsequent calls from European leaders to reduce the continent's dependence on Moscow.
