Our First SAILING Adventure Together: Offshore to Maine [Ep. 3]

We leave Third Beach near Newport, Rhode and make our first bluewater sailing voyage up Buzzards Bay through the Cape Cod Canal and into open water offshore in the Gulf of Maine.

About Us:

We are two racing sailors from the midwest USA that decided to sell it all to buy a boat and sail around the world. We both know how to sail, but the cruising and off the grid lifestyle is totally new to us.

Unlike most that choose to sail around the world via the trade winds and the Panama Canal, we are going the hard way, circumnavigating via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope, east about (around the bottom of South America and Africa).

Our rescue dog Roxy also sails aboard and travels to other countries with us.

Join us as we learn as we go on an epic adventure around the world.

About our Sailboat:

S/V Sweet Ruca is a year 2000 J Boats J/46 sailboat. She was built in Rhode Island USA as a husband and wife round the world performance cruising sailboat. She is 46 feet long, 14 feet wide, has a draft of under 6 feet, and weighs 24,000 lbs. It has a carbon fiber mast which is 65' tall, and a 75 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. She also has solar power and a watermaker (desalination) for off the grid living.

We think our boat is the perfect freedom machine. If the zombie apocalypse or world war 3 ever happens we are going to be hiding in the ocean :-)
