Worked example problem on linear impulse and momentum. You are encouraged to challenge and test your knowledge by first attempting the problem and then comparing your answer.

An explosive is detonated and produces a shockwave. The impulse acting on the particle (1000 kg mass) is plotted below. Calculate the compressed distance of the spring, which is initially at equilibrium and has a stiffness of 40 kN/m, assuming no energy dissipation.
