Worked example problem on the conservation of linear momentum. You are encouraged to challenge and test your knowledge by first attempting the problem and then comparing your answer.

A red ball is travelling at an initial velocity 2 m/s. It collides with a green ball which is initially at rest. Calculate the final velocity of both balls at the instant after impact and verify that the energy of the system has been conserved. Assume a perfectly elastic collision and that the balls have the same mass.
