Will I ever pass this way again?
Will I die?
I am on my way to a gathering.
We threw out archbishop Absalon from his castle, two years ago.
But Absalon continued to demand tenths of our harvests.
Absalon was foster brother of the Danish king and was appointed as the archbishop of Scandinavia. His Bishop’s Seat was in Lund.
Last year, we rose against him again outside of Helsingborg. This time the bishop was better prepared, and attacked the peasants with his cavallry.
They killed 1000 men. They attacked us poorly armed peasants from behind.
Now, in 1182, we will attempt to deal with Absalon again. The archbishop who loves the listen to both swords and psalms. Our gathering will be at Vitabäck (White brook) and we will march to Lund.
Well, meeting Absalon’s mighty cavallry and the memories of the last battle, were very discouraging for the men.
We returned home and were forced to pay the tenth to Absalon. No person was killed, only our pride.
